Snippetsville: General Discussion

:) Thanks - we have the same sort of colleges in the UK.

The description helps a lot.

Could I suggest it would be nice if people remembered to add descriptions to institutions. PierceStreet's could serve as a model, being concise and comprehensive.

A new question arises "4 year school" is that the equivelant of a UK university?

It is this common words thing, but we do not use language the same way.

In the USA you stay in school to take a degree.

Over here, the UK we leave school then go to college or University. We would never call college or university "school".

I know it is moving away from Snippetsville, but I would be interested to know what the Kiwis and Ozzies call it.

I go to a college which is part of a university to be schooled in higher learning... It's all expensive, so call it what my father does, "The Black Hole of Relative Poverty". He being the relative and poverty being the condition I supposedly am hastening he and my mother to.

I absolutely love the explanation of college/university your father provided. Thankfully, my son went off to the US Army for college, which has caused no nudge on my pocketbook. My daughter, on the other hand, is soon to pursue her dream of being an architect. Be sure, she'll be at the nearby state university, where I can check up on her... heehee.

Jon, just a bit more clarification. I'm an administrator at a university made up of colleges and schools. We have a college of arts and sciences (liberal arts to many), and a college of professional studies (for working adults). Then there are the schools of nursing, law, education (teacher training) and business. Not every department of a college or school offers graduate degrees, and we are distinguished as focusing on teaching vs. research. A research institution would be the likes of Caltech or M.I.T.

I also like the idea of a community college for Snipps.

Oh, I am in "school" every day... when the hairdresser explains hair coloration methods; the postman tells me why he cannot put the lid down on my mailbox (WTF?); furnace workers attempt (!!!) to provide me with a logical jumble of words to define why they will not quit laughing and smoking and get out of the way of my carpet installers (any of you who even attempt to know me would see me saying, "Go take a lunch break, furnace boys!"). And then,(haha), they did. My life is school. Every moment, every day. I respect higher education, but also respect the school of life. As Perdita well knows of me... by the way girl, I am signing up to drive the university crazy, in other words, going to college. Wish them luck!

Issue 2 has been submitted!

Now we wait again to see how it goes. As an experiment, we have turned voting 'on' for this issue. Should be educational!

We've had no more feedback on issue 1, but we have had enquiries from another writer who may join us. Views on issue 1 stand at 6098, which I find a little disappointing, although it has only been ten days. I think entries under 'Chain Stories' tend to pick up fewer views (and votes) for some reason. My own 'Talisman' piece, Lucy McFey has managed to acquire 18551 views, but that's since December last, whereas my latest non-chain submission has 10433 in nine days. Perhaps further issues will help boost our views. I certainly hope so.

Maybe we ought to consider taking 2 Snippetsville stories, that would both qualify maybe for Erotic Couplings, and post them together in that category. We could entitle it "Snippetsville Sampler", and in it promote the two standard releases with more coming to be found in Chain Stories.

It would be a little brand building for Snippettsville and maybe get people to seek us out.
Interesting thought. It could work. I wouldn't want to dilute the source material for the main issues too much, but taking two out shouldn't hurt. I'd be interested in seeing other views on this.

As one who got his own degree at age 57 I have to say, 'Wantonica, go for it!'

The most enjoyable time I ever had with my clothes on.

Alex and Pierce:

I like the idea of Snipps 'trailers'. I don't see it as diluting the Snipps experience as there is such a variety of stories, characters and scenes. Perhaps what is unappealing about chain stories to some is a presumption of less variety. Putting 2-story trailers into different categories could very well draw in more regular readers. A brief preface to such could explain the variety offered in the main Snipps posting.

Perdita

I think it would probably be a good idea to 'blurb' the stories as readable in 5 minutes flat and, as appropriate, when there are 'ordinary' stories and 'sex' stories.

Gauche

p.s.

Gauche's '5-min.' blurb is a good idea.

I also wonder if the 2-story trailers might be changed regularly, once a month?

Re: '5 min blurb' and 'Trailers'

Gauche -

good concept. Where exactly do you see the 'blurb' as going?

Perdita -

fine, as long as we have the stories, or do you see them coming from the 'pool'?

Alex

PS: Very shortly, I'm going to be offline for a couple of days - house guests!

Yes, just take them from the current thread pool (or do they have to go through the editing/acceptance process first?)

House guests: even when I love them it's draining. Stay cool.

5-minute reads

Gauche,

I just amended the Issue 2 submission, still pending as it was only submitted this morning. I've added '- Four 5-minute reads' after the 'Short Stories from a Small Town' description. It will be interesting to see if it makes any difference to the views. I do think it's a Good Idea.

The Kiwi lady doesn't know yet, although I've e-mailed her about it.

I didn't have room to say which story type was which - we'll leave that element of surprise for the moment...

Alex

Views: I think that the other Chain Stories have had front page advertising on Literotica. Probably that is why the views are higher for them.

Blurb: I like and agree with the 5 minute blurb on the stories. Great thinking gauche! :)

Trailers: PierceStreet that's an excellent idea. I would like to ask Laurel about some kind of advertising for the SG Tales. I think we have enough serious authors and enough proof in our compiled stories to have some serious advertising done on the SG behalf. **I have just this minute sent off an email to Laurel regarding advertising and will pass on her reply as soon as I receive it.**

In my opinion if we are to use them, the trailers should come from existing formally published stories. Otherwise we will be forcing the readers to hunt through all categories in case they might glimpse another new set of stories they haven't read.

Chatroom: It appears entirely possible to set up a private chatroom within the Literotica website (from the main page) in which we can gather and have a discussion. The chatroom can be passworded so that only SG authors can enter. Both Alex and I have checked this out and it seemed to work fairly well.

The difficulty is in getting as many SG authors in the chatroom at one time. I can manage most times during my day, it seems a lot of SG authors are on Literotica during my morning or afternoon. I have no idea what anyone else thinks about getting together for a discussion, but I believe it would be a good idea as we need to talk about Editor/editing.

Please post here and let me know your thoughts.

(On a private note. I am at the moment coming to terms with a 35 year old cousin who has slipped into a coma caused by cancer complications that we all thought she'd been fighting successfully. I think it's fair to let you know that I may be erratic offline/online over the next week or so. Thanks in advance for understanding. I will keep in touch by checking this thread and I know Alex will contact me should the need arise.)

Excellent chatroom idea. One I mooted to the entire AH some while ago (Yahoo group with contained chatroom) only one person took me up on it.

Gauche

Alex and Sweets: for a literate woman I am nearly out of words to keep thanking you for your impressive work, so please simply know you are not taken for granted by this one.

The chat room sounds great. I think my times may be more flexible than others so I will let you decide that. If I can't make it I'll bother Gauche for the goss (haha).

much regard, Perdita :rose:

...i think i'm going to have to dream up another nickname for the chatrooms. sheesh, my whole screen went yellow with messages *giggling*

chatroom

okay...

i've played and figured out how to create a room all by myself. if anyone is around and wants to come in, i'm in the SG room and the password is 'arthur' - don't ask.
