Afternoon DiJ and Mav...

That could be interesting... perhaps a bit busy if one couldn't find a number of voices for some to concentrate on.

Let's say that I set the collector/investment side of this seeming insanity aside, I can make a defence for quite a number of the guitars.

First, there is the resonator guitar and the 12 string. Each is a uniquely voiced guitar and will have a supporting role in a number of the songs that I record, and perhaps do live. As is the Telecaster with the Roland 100 - that may end up being my Tuesday night rig - a honky tonk setup and if I get involved with a some of the guys with a band (it has been suggested) this will be the primary axe. One more, the 6 string banjo. This has a big future and a unique sound. One reason for selling a off a part of the collection is to upgrade this instrument. I have a sound in mind, and the current instrument is not producing it. But, that is 4 of them.

Now, their is finger picking vs. flat picking. This will occupy two guitar's slots, at the very least. The two disciplines require different guitars. Sandy, the Koa WY1K is a finger picking guitar, as is the Taylor. The SLR80, Maggie is as well, but I don't like to play it too much. The flat picking guitar can be one of any number of guitars... the PD100 is one.

Let's say one and back up - that is 4 more.

Now, there is a tuning... Ornkey. This tuning is worth learning a whole new set of scales and chords for. It makes a unique sound. That little file I sent out last week is in Ornkey tuning. It is very similar to a banjo tuning, and it is perfect for either emulating banjo licks, or out and out stealing them. The bantar will most likely be tuned this way. And the FF60TSB will be the Ornkey guitar (un-named flame maple tobacco sunburst folk body guitar). One thing that is always a pain with alternate tunings is trying to move between the alternate and standard with one guitar. Once tuned Ornkey, the Fusion will remain in that tuning.

There is another tuning Dadgad, which is a primary tuning used in most celtic guitar so that carves a slot for yet another finger picking guitar...

How many is that? Ten?

So that makes the insanity only 13 deep...

Uh, you buyin' any of this? Gimme another 20 minutes or so, I can rationalize a bit more... :D

The real world fact that the Disability thing could be 3 or 4 months or longer is raising its head. That in itself says that some will be sold, and damn few more will be bought...

A fellow has to have something to flavor his yougart

Morning Miz B :D

Well hell, I thought that little yellow number looked sort of tasty myself.

LMAO - what a great picture! And what a pretty arrangement! I betcha got a bit lumpy throated when that showed up... ;)

I guess my little treatise on the job descriptions of a herd of guitars came off a bit more denfensive than I intended... it was sposed to be a joke...

As El so eloquently pointed out, I couldn't trade the whole pile of 'em in on a decent bass boat, or Harley, for that matter.

Sarge was over yesterday evening to help me with the big swap - moving the computer in the office into the studio, the studio computer to the office. She spied the Festival on the stand and not having been born too recently she giggled and said "Another one??! Dad!" and rolled her eyes. That was the end of it. I am sort of having fun with it myself...

But then, my nearly 40 year old daughter, dust bunnies in her hair from crawling around behind a floor mounted server sized computer that had been in place almost a year and half, pulled the guitar out of its stand and sat down with it...

She held it in front of her, and looked at it from stem to stern. She noticed the brass saddle, the brass bridge pins. I said the nut is brass too. She ran a small finger across the strings and let them ring - listening to them critically. She liked what she heard, you could tell by the slight little nod of approval. I watched her as she ran one hand softly across the back of the guitar, feeling the almost rough texture of the spare finish - "that is different, you can feel the grain." as she continued feeling the various contours of the guitar.

Then she turned the guitar over and positioned it on her lap and strummed it. I had a capo on it, at the second fret... she tuned her voice to what would be an A and remarked that it might be a bit high. Never-the-less, she broke into the rythym groove of Walking in Memphis, and with a voice clear as a bell, sang the livin' shit out of it. All the way through.

I can't tell you what I paid for that guitar, I would have to look it up. But I would have paid twice that for the moment. You should have heard her, you should have seen her.

When she finished, she laughed a little embarassed laugh - she knew she had nailed it. She was proud of herself for nailing it, even if it was a bit high. She held the guitar out in front of her, turning it like it was on a spit, and gave a little nod... "This is a good one Dad."

I changed my mind... I would pay three times to have been a part of that moment. You should have seen her... you should have heard her.

I better get this posted, and announce that the coffee pot just made it's last little gurggling sound indicating it was done with its chore...

Coffee's on gang... you ready for Monday?

Sounds like one of those "priceless" comercials :D Aren't those moments grand? it is odd....you work your ass off to get what you need to live and what one thinks they ought to have to make them happy....and then those moments come up which just knock your socks off...hasn't got a damned thing to do with how pretty ones yard is...or the model tag on his auto. or whether his suit says "Armani"

Morning Macx, Mind if I pour a cup and sit a while?

There was a time when I would have been pissed if someone called me "son", even in the Jerry Reed style...but now that the gray hairs or starting to infiltrate...it's sorta nice :)

The Festival is a beautiful guitar...great playing or not..it has got that "vintage America" look even if it isn't made here. I think that maybe it was an SLM design. It is gonna be quite a week..in-laws stopping by Wednesday evening and staying the night on their way home...might be heading their way for the weekend if things work out. Work..well work usually sucks...but it is a good job...I just like to bitch :D

LMAO - yup! I know that one. The last thing anybody needs on a Monday morning is some cheerful son-of-a-bitch walking into the lunchroom with a perky "Good Morning Everybody - Isn't it great to be alive?"

You would just have to throw something at him. It's in the union by-laws, I'm pretty sure... look it up.

Re calling you son... I'm older than you. Tough shit! :D

yep...though I usually do Mondays pretty well..guess I'm still smiling' from the weekend.. Tuesday morning though...........grrrh! Luckily, the heat and humidity have abated here for a bit....it doen't seem to suck as much life out of one during the day as those "Turkish steambath" days that will be comming up soon.

Had a quiet little dinner out yesterday evening...not much of a crowd to fight through...pleasant for a change. Found a nice place with good food and a pleasing atmosphere we are frequenting a bit....wonder how long it will be till everyone else discovers it

Mr. B yowled and hollered when I put the flowers on top of the fridge...paced back and forth trying to figure out a way to get to them. After about 20 minutes of his yelling I gave up and gave him a fern to play with

I was VERY TOUCHED by the flowers...very....yeah oh yeah priceless moments

Rs girlfriend and her family took a mini vacation to Virginia Beach...she brought me back a beautiful starfish~smiles~ another thing to pack for KC

Looking so foward Chief to meeting you and all your beautiful ladies....hearing stories about each one

I looked at the date on the computer this morning...July 23rd..my heart skipped a beat....the 24th of August the house closes...

Meeting with my cousin aka "my partner in crime"...tonight after work to figure out when we are leaving for KC...she'll be driving with me....We got ourselves into a world of shit as teenagers growing up

Well off to shower an get this day rolling....I have tomorrow off finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kisses Chief....Kisses Family

Plotting and planning continues

Did you ever stop to think that we destroy those places ourselves. Like Mac's Bar-B-Que here in Skiatook. I started going there when they first started up in a little store front of a strip mall, nearly 20 years ago. Payday Friday nites... Mac's and a movie. Family pack of ribs, slaw and beans, with a pound of polish on the side. A movie or two at from the rental place. Pig out in front of the TV watching a movie with the family.

Mac is great with the ribs, won the Jack Daniel's Ribs championship one year - that is sort of like the World Series for the Smoker and Bar-B-Que guys. I couldn't tell enough people about the place. I talked Stairmaster into using them to provide the company wide lunches they used to have every month or so. It was great.

They had to move to a bigger place. He even tried the franchise bit - opened a store in Tulsa. Ended up backing out of it 'cause he didn't like the way the guy was cutting corners on his meat. He has his sauce and his rub being bottled and distributed from someplace.

He's sort of pulled back now, just has the one store - he's quit the competition trail which is real pain in the butt to deal with, towing your smoker and crap all over the new 'nited states... He and his wife are sort of retired now, just working occasionaly. It is great to see them behind the counter every now and then. The pulled pork is it for now, still get the polish tho, sauce on the side.

See El, you telling us about the place - how neat it is for you and Gee to spend a quiet Sunday evening there, is starting to help with the discovery of the place. But they're neat people that run it, aren't they. And you want to see them do good...

Off to work....early morning fog sifting throught the trees...sometimes I think the quiet drive throught the backroads is the best part of the day...time to reflect on pleasant memories...to be alone..with those whom I love.

Have a great week everyone!

That's because there are real people behind the IDs. There's many who call the Internet an illusionary world. I do not agree. It's as real a world as the one around us. Ok, there's some who pretend and some that are fakes... but isn't this how things go in our everyday life as well?
I prefer to treat Lit people as Real people, with feelings and emotions and families and joys and fears. In the long run, I think it pays better than dismissing everybody as an anonymous face hiding behind an ID. At least, I have ended up with some awesome friendships, which strengthens my belief that I am being right in my approach.

Here is a poem that a friend sent me some time ago... author unknown...

FRIENDS WITHOUT FACES

We sit and we type,
and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder,
what this possibly means.

With our mouse we roam,
through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone,
as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other,
we type all our woes
Small groups we do form,
and gang up on our foes.

We wait for somebody,
to type out our name
We want recognition,
but it is always the same.

We give kisses and hugs,
and sometimes flirt
In IMs we chat deeply,
and reveal why we hurt.

We do form friendships -
but - why we don't know
But some of these friendships,
will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen,
we can be so bold
Telling our secrets,
that have never been told.

Why is it we share,
the thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see,
as though we were blind.

The answer is simple,
it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems,
and need someone to tell.

We can't tell real people,
but tell someone we must
So we turn to the 'puter,
and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy,
the truth still remains
They are Friends Without Faces,
with odd little names.
