Well, maybe Mr B got ahold of it. If he seems extra determined today. You might follow him and see where he hid it. :catroar:

Always tough to let go of something you unexpectedly got attached to. I seem to remember that most of the ladies were kinda for investment. ;)

Oh well, it gets a lot more personal after you have fingered and stroked and diddled with the lady's bit and parts. And listened to her sing.

Yeah, there is that... :)

I am thinking what I need to do is first of all, make a diffinite declaration concerning what the collection is about - its theme. Create a mission statement (gag) if I need to. Then I need to perform a cold hearted analysis of what other guitars figure into my list of players, considering that some of the collection are players as well.

Then I need to make some cuts. I guess just like a football coach who is faced with letting a verteran go, a guy that has been an integral part of the team for many years, a leader, a guy that was giving it up 120% in every practice, and in every game. But now he's lost a step, his salary is hurting the cap, and he's missed most of the last two years with injuries. "goodbye Steve Atwater, goodbye Al Wilson..."

I still have time before the first preseason game, I don't have to make a cut quite yet...

Yup, there ya go...

Which brings to mind the newest one... the Wild Rose. Mercy now!

She has jumped up on the list. In All categories.

Rare: At the time the guitar was made, it was one of Alvarez top of the line guitars and relatively expensive at the time. Around $600 1977 dollars. From today's standpoint, it is a solid wood guitar with no laminates (I am fairly certain, but I keep being wrong about that) the spruce is tight grained, even displaying some fiddle back, the rosewood dark and well figured. Solid wood spruce/rosewood guitars command the premium prices today.

Appointments: The guitar has well executed Abalone binding and soundhole rosettes, very, very similar to the Martin D-41 and D-45 of the day. It has a true snowflake neck and is a pleasure to look at. Craftsmanship. Gotta love it...

Action: It plays super easy yet without a rattle even when you clonk it a good one with a heavy thumb... The only intonation problem I found is that the A note at the fifth fret on the E string is a bit flat. If you figure on using that note a lot, you have to make compromises in your tuning.

Sound: I like it. It is what you expect from nicely aged spruce and rosewood. The bass has balls, the treble rings and sustains well. It would be interesting to pit the Rose against Maggie or Curlie in a "Guitar Blind Date" contest. There is a good chance that the guitar has been worked on at some time in its life by someone who knew what he was doing. The tuners are Grover like, rather than the Klusen types used on most of their guitars back then. Also, rather than the adjustable bridge, there is a Martin look alike solid bridge. Any how, the sound is great. The type of sound that you want to capture with a Mic rather than a pickup.

So, from a strictly football salary cap type of view point, who goes? Certainly not Maggie. One of Eighty, premium presentation wood and appointments, and currently undefeated in local Sound competitions. The salary cap seems to dictate that it be Curlie. Friday could be considered but she has sentimental value, and if I hadn't gone buggy with the whole thing, should be my only guitar, besides the resonator and 12 string.

And Curlie... I have playing her a lot since El was here. She sure sounds good, both amplified and not. She plays easy. There is nothing about her that isn't top shelf.

Arrg...

Well alrighty then. Lemme speak to that, those... eh, you know - what you said about my style. As it turns out, the "Style" that Jerry Reed uses in the A Thing Called Love is my style. It took me all of 5 minutes to have most of it under my fingers this morning. I even remember the words to most of the verses and the chorus. I just need to find a couple notes in the bass walk down after the cute little lick and I'll have it. I should be able to snipe those off the video. I wish we'd had them back in the day.

And the frailing. Most of that is already under my fingers. That is why I was up so late with it. I was excited. I had Ole Joe Clark, Oh Susannah, Cripple Creek and an Invention all working in one fashion or another. That is one of the reasons I am hot to get to the Ornkey tuning.

It is jazz type chords and single string work that musses me up. And aside from working the bluegrass standards, I've given up on most of that stuff. Working on vocals is another thing I didn't ever think would be an issue for me. The idea that I might be selling my musicianship on the strength of my voice was just too preposterous.

Have you checked the 5043 that is currently up in eBay, and the pictures of mine against the photo and description in the 77 catalog? There is stuff we thought was old that is actually newer (script Alvarez on some guitars for one) It is all much confusion.

Mostly now I just play and sing, and sort through my song list. I need to reclaim some songs from my LPs... may try to chase down a USB phonograph and the software to do that.

Also, by hook or crook - I am going to start recording this next week...

So, have you got to play the chocolat guitar? What do you think of it? Different than your 5022 I bet.

Ain't nothin' sneaky about me. I'm like a bull in a china shop at my most stealthy. You was probably off to plottin' and plannin' or lost in the visuals 'bout you and your cowboy.

So, any plans for today, or are you gonna put your feet up and do a resonable immitation of a head of celery? You know, vegetate?

I got plans that are no where near as lofty...

Other than a trip to the grocery store and lunch with the Nick unit, it is cars and guitars for me. Gonna get a recorder going today by gum.

And I put the Honda L14 AWD engine in a 2000 Integra and am in the final tuning process. It isn't much for top end, but it tears the short twisty tracks up. It is going to be fun to drive. Most people think FWD when they see an Integra, and boy will they be surprised when the light turns green. It gets from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Oh, and shave - got to shave today...

You shaving cause it's Sunday?

LOL - you Easterners...

So what do you do after you get the toast and the glass in the air?

Is the toast buttered? I hope so - I don't like dry toast. Its like those chunks of stale bread that they put on your salad if you don't stop 'em. Whoever thunk that one up anyhow. Probably an Easterner...

Is there going to be anything in the glass? I hope I don't spill it if there is. And do we got to hold it up for long? I am old and get tired fast.

I painted it pearl burgandy with a gold undercoat. It looks pretty good. It may not want to be seen with a scruffy looking old fart like me...
