Okay.. I'll qualify and expand..

Amazon.com, Kroger, and a bunch more private entities track your buying habits with club cards, etc.

Don't think that if deemed necessary that the government would hesitate to subpoena those records and find out how much milk you've been buying.

They have already subpoenaed myspace records in an attempt to protect us from pedophiles in New Jersey. There are all of those handgun background check records that were supposed to be destroyed and never were. Warrantless wiretaps if you just use the "terrorist" keyword. The insurance companies are trying to get into your private medical records. It just seems to never end.

The thing with selective breeding is that it wouldn't have to be forced, coerced or anything like that. It wouldn't even have to be state sanctioned.

The whole thing could exist in the form of a quasi underground society that spans the whole globe and is made up of volunteers. Something like a non-profit organization operating with a global headquarters somewhere with the purpose of taking the human race to the limits of performance.

Okay, imagine something like the church of scientology but with no religious slant. The society would be open for volunteers to join and each member would have to go through rigorous testing, complete family and medical history, geneaology, etc... There would be different levels with the lightest being something like just being on the list of potential genetic donors who want a place in the project all the way up to fully invested lifestylers who actually run the society 24/7.

The society would reinvest any monies/properties that are donated or collected in furthering their vision of the future of humanity, could provide educational opportunities and other benefits for members and the offspring that are brought into being. It could even run profitable businesses that are tied to the parent company (society) in order to sustain and refine it.

It would be at the least interesting to put a think tank together to determine the feasibility of such a project.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Robert Heinlein..Pull up a chair and cop a squat on the floor...

Heinlein, even before he got a bit "publicly peculiar"... Was being acused of being a Facist. And one of the main reasons was his perfectly reasonable {from his perspective} conclusion that humanity SHOULD want to make itself "better"... Humanity on the other hand, has consistently proven him wrong, with what seems to be a suicidal urge to sink into some morass of the lowest common denominator.

Okay, I don't know if this is taboo or not but...:

I just saw a commercial for some kind of career center school. The commercial shows a girl working as a waitress having a bad day and some narrator cuts in asking something like "do you feel that you are doing something important"? Then goes on to show doctors and nurses working in an operating room.

We've all probably seen stuff like this. The thing that bothers me about this whole concept is that there is a notion in our society that what we do for money equates to who we are as people.

Why do we let what we do define who we are and affect our self esteem. It seems wrong somehow.

I agree with you. That's not how I look at the world at all now. It is how we are told to do so by media and society.

I love Heinlein! I'm a HUGE fan of his!

And I refuse to believe that bit in bold. I see bad and good in society both are amazing at times.

I agree it is unfair. I believe everyone has an important role in society.

However, I find I have a tendency to define myself by what I do most. Consequently, I am defined by my job since my work week is between 50-70 hours (depending on the time of the year). It can be difficult to drop the role when it consumes the majority of my existence.

OMG People still make a fuss about that?

Those east coast people need to CHILL out.

We are quite uptight about this. Actually the host of the Today's show wore white before Easter and got like 10,000 emails about this. We are wound a bit tight over here. It's why we need beaten harder. (ok maybe that's just me)

Heinlein...

Would all the women on the board (think tank) be red headed?

I've never paid any attention to that. In fact, if anything, I tend to go against the flow.

Which I suppose sort of ties in with one of my pet peeves....
How many useful occupations in the U.S. {which I use because it's where I live} actually "NEED" {Not to be mistaken with "require"} a 4 year degree???

*lol*Though, heaven forbid we ask that out loud... Which, I suppose is the reason we can find all the programmers we need.... And a good plumber can charge just about whatever he wants...

I would really like to refuse to believe that myself...The statistics don't seem to bear it out though...

Um, hasn't anyone heard of winter white?

And I thought it was Memorial Day.

I love my winter white. I'm pretty sure Emily Post says that it is Easter. I'm not a big one to follow this.

Hey! Where's my spanking?

Right here, babe!

Would it be considered taboo for a subbie to spank a Dom? ;)

I don't think so but babykitten, that wouldn't make you happy. You know that polished leather strap belongs across your ass and not in your hand. :rose:

*grin* I have heard almost those exact words out of someone elses mouth...

but if kiten really does want to dish out the spankings, I'm available as a...teaching model?

:p

I loathe being defined by my occupation, or how much money I don't make. I love my job, but it's not who I am.

Master has an easy way to remind me of my place if I ever get too .. bossy..while we're talking. He simply answers me with, "Yes, Mistress..." and he knows I HATE it.. that it just feels wrong ... and I realize that I've overstepped my boundaries with him

*snicker* anyone who knows me well enough knows I'm not capable of "dishing" out the spankins'. . .just not in my nature

I know how you feel about the job thing. I love what I do now, I could do with making a little more money. . .but it is what it is. . .*shrug*

What statistics do you mean exactly?

I do know that it seems lop sided partly because media focuses on the negatives a huge percentage of the time not the positives.

I know I'm running about two pages behind, but I don't like keeping my mouth shut when I get thinking...

In regards to the selective breeding thing... personally, I feel that there are a TON of people who don't deserve to breed. But I can't tell you a single idea on how I think that should be fixed.

I *do*, however, believe that MINORS ought to have enforced birth control. The exception being a minor who is legally responsible for oneself. I feel that whatever method that is used to control minors fertility should be optionally available to continue as long as the person in question wants, but as long as they're minors... no baby-making for you.

Anyone who cannot be held legally responsible for the care of that child, namely a minor, should not be allowed to produce that child.

That seems to make sense. However had that been the law in 1960, I would never have been born . . .

And I'd never wish someone back into un-being, of course, but it's getting ALL too common these days. Kids having kids, who can't support them, can't care for them, and they wind up more often than not ruining their own lives as well as the kids. There's extreme's on either end, always, but for the most part... it'd probably save a *lot* of people.
