The 2025 750 Word Story Challenge Support Thread

Okay, I made one more, possibly the silliest thing I've ever written, about a young woman who starts making tease tiktok videos to boost sales at the furniture store she works at, Bob's Furniture Barn

It's very dumb, it will probably get massacred in the ratings, but I was giggling the whole time I wrote it... And THBGato pointed out that I injected -- intentionally or not -- a bit of satire against modern parasocial influencer exploitation
This was so much fun to read. It's pieces like this that make the 750 word challenge so worth it! Well done!

"This is the second story I've read of yours where you kill the mood with fast forwarding it to years later where everything ends and someone dies. Do you even realize you're actively killing your own stories? Just once, maybe try giving everyone a good, maybe happy ending where it remains hot and passionate."

"This would have been the best part of this story until you completely killed it with the last few paragraphs and the epilogue. Totally killed the mood with that."

"You killed a beautiful story! I've read hundreds of stories on here and that is the absolute worst ending I've ever read."

"Good story, but that ending was too much of a let down."

They demand endings.

They hate endings.

I wish we could directly respond to comments, like on AO3.

You really don't. Feeding the trolls does no one any good: they're not going to learn and you'll wind up wasting time and energy that could be put to better use writing more stories for those of us who appreciate your writing.

Having posted a few of these stories now, I'm a little worried that moving forward, I will constantly feel a need to pare down anything I write and make it shorter. I'm not sure that's a good thing. 😅
I just don't wanna put out a novel, or maybe even a novella, out for free.

Last year plenty of people squeaked my story was too short @750 so I expanded it a 23,376 full-blown affair. I was also getting the jack with people crying about "reality" so I put together a boring story that I felt would reflect real life for those who want "reality". Of course, it was too boring. You'll see from the results, wasn't much in it between the main two versions. If anyone does release a full-blown story based on their 750 worder, would be interesting to see how that plays out too.

I've honestly thought about it before. With my other pen name, I did take a writing prompt from r/WritingPrompts, and turn it from about one to two thousand words, to a whole ass novel, that has a second in the works. The novel seems more popular than the short story, too, in places they both exist.

Sometimes, it's up to the reader to make their own (happy) ending. I can trade this for 5 stars. right?

That suggests an interesting forum topic: "What Literotica story were you actively reading the last time you gave yourself an orgasm?

Three questions: in what Forum would that fit? Would you, as an author, want to know which of your stories had that immediate impact on readers? Do you, as an author, care if your stories has that specific effect on your readers?

Trolls aren't the only people who comment.

Oh yes I do. Not just for the trolls, though. Of course I can be a right degenerate when I wanna be. The people who actually comment positive things would appreciate a reply.

You have to collect the two remaining pieces first: "I saw" and "I conquered".
But fr though, we could probably make a bingo card of reactions to try and elicit from reader comments...

I've gotten, "I hate these characters, but I liked the story," and "I don't like this genre, but this got me aroused," and I feel both are incredible reactions to strive for 😍

It's a buzz knowing my writing has had a result. It's part of the point of erotica, surely?

It seems like high praise to me knowing someone got off on my erotic story. I suppose it leads to a larger conversation about the difference between smut, porn, and erotica.

Not really - if it arouses, there's no need for a label.

There's always been a debate about porn versus erotica, and here on Lit, the notion of stroke (short plotless stories whose primary purpose is to arouse). Amusingly, a deliberate attempt to write a stroke story earned this comment:

Props be damned, I could use a cigarette after that. 🥵 (And I haven't smoked since college!)

I love these two. They feel so desperately human. I'm very jealous of them. I can't wait to explore more of their sumptuous relationship. Although I will, because your stories have a lovely way of filling the mind for a good long while.
which just goes to show that, despite myself, a bit of depth always creeps into my stories.

Personally, I have to feel something in the head and in the heart before I feel anything between the legs 😅

It doesn't always have to be deeply felt emotions, it could just be a clever or arousing situation or scenario... but it's gotta be more than just lurid descriptions of genitals smooshing into each other :sneaky:

I didn't think mine would score high, but I thought it'd be more than just 4.4, being just straight sex. My highest rated one was 4.39, and that one, I believe was the straight sex option, too.

My story has stalled at 4:28, which is not bad for a 750 worder. Its View count is slowly increasing still, but the scoring has stopped these last few days. I reckon folk are just moving on with a shrug, saying not for me, but not bothering with scoring at all. Which is refreshingly adult behaviour.
