Both are disciples of Iwamoto Kogan, who is known as Japan's greatest swordsman. Each of them are determined to prove himself the successor of Iwamoto's school. However, there can only be one champion. So begins a story of intertwining fates, conflict, and strange destinies.

Good - Shigurui is just the thing for those who are fans of samurai anime, It similar to Kenshin and basilisk series but more realistic and violent.

Bad- My only regret was that the series was too short lived only 13 episodes.

Plot Summary: The Empire of Britannia has invaded Japan using giant robot weapons called Knightmare Frames. Japan is now referred to as Area 11, and its people the 11's. A Britannian who was living in Japan at the time, Lelouch, vowed to his Japanese friend Suzaku that he'd destroy Britannia. Years later, Lelouch is in high school, but regularly skips out of school to go play chess and gamble on himself. One day, he stumbles on terrorists 11's who've stolen a military secret and is caught by a member of the Britannian task force sent after them, who is Suzaku. As the rest of the squad arrives, Suzaku is shot for disobeying orders, while the military secret, a young girl, gives Lelouch the power of Geass, which makes anyone obey any order. While Suzaku is secretly made the pilot of Britannia's brand new prototype Knightmare, Lancelot, Lelouch becomes the masked Zero to lead the rebellion to destroy Britannia once and for all.

Good- Anyone a fan of gundamn or any other mech series with good drama should watch this. It's nice long and paces well.

Bad- I really don't see anything wrong with this series yet.

Over View:
The story takes place in Saiunkoku, Japan back 600 years ago under the Enlightened Sages of Colour which are:
(the colours are provinces in and around Saiunkoku, and the family names):

* Ran (藍, Ran, Blue) — The most powerful clan in Saiunkoku, although they play a dormant role in the political issues of the country.
* Kō (紅, Kō, Red) — Equal power to that of the Ran clan. Along with the Ran clan, the Kō clan is known to be the 'highest of nobility'.
* Heki (碧, Heki, Green)
* Kō (黄, Kō/Ki, Yellow) — Although pronounced the same as the 'Red' (紅) clan, the kanji (黄) means 'yellow'.
* Haku (白, Haku , White)
* Koku (黒, Koku , Black)
* Sa (茶, Sa, Brown) — Known as the least distinguished clan in Saiunkoku, main estate in the Sa Province.
* Shi (紫, Shi, Purple) — The family of the Emperor

Anyways, the story revolves around Lady Shūrei Kō , a descendant of a noble family that has fallen on hard times.
Her father works as a librarian in the Imperial palace, a post which offers prestige and respect, but little pay. Shūrei teaches in the temple school and works odd jobs to make ends meet, but her dream is to pass the imperial examinations and take a post in government, a path forbidden to women.

Shūrei's plans come to an sudden halt when the Emperor's Grand Advisor makes a startling offer, which is joining the imperial household for six months as the young Emperor's consort, and teach the Emperor to be a responsible ruler. If she succeeds, the financial reward will be great.

The story suggests Shūrei's growing relationships with the Emperor and other members of the court, but will she succeed?

The downside: Geneon decided to put an halt on the anime, and the manga is nearly impossible to find. I had to look up on Wikipedia for some advice- something I despise doing.

Over View:
If you like a colourful, slash-samurai infused comedy with graffiti all over it, then Samurai Champloo will be your tasteful treat. The story is set in the Edo period, but it's hard to guess due to the overflowing abundance the anime delivers with it's catchy hip-hop-based songs, that even your parents would find to be a catchy tune!
The story begins with the samurai's Mugen and Jin- who by the way; hate eachother with a passion. Well, then get in a bit of a rut together; and you almost instantly see them on death row. Okay, let's rewind a little. (yeah, the anime is known for their rewinding bits- can be a little hard to follow). The story begins with Mugen- a poor samurai with a dirty tongue who visits a local tea shop. Fuu- the adorable; yet slightly bratty waitress serves him, only to learn that he has no money at all. However; the two make a deal. If Fuu gives a hefty amount of dumplings to Mugen, he'll teach the yakuza (not to mention the one guy is the son of a uber important dude) who are being rowdy and perverted towards her and the other waitresses a lesson. So there we have it- Two character's meet eachother. That is, until Mugen mistakes Jin- a sophisticated samurai as an enemy too! So that's how those two become bitter enemies. Eventually, the tea house gets destroyed by a fire and Mugen and Jin get taken away by uber important guy's guards. Fuu is the only one who runs free.

Later on, when the guys are in jail, Fuu tries to set them free, only to be noticed herself. When the guys get put on the chopping block, they use their samurai skills to free themselves, with Fuu on the roof helping them along by creating a diversion of fireworks to help them escape un-noticed. As the two escape, Fuu catches up to them claiming that since she help them escape an early death, they now have to seek out a person she wants to find:

A Samurai who smells of Sunflowers.

And so, the journey begins for these 3 unlikely characters. How will it all tie up?

The downside: At first I was skeptical of the anime because I'm not one for the hip-hop aspects. But, after watching a few episodes, I found it had some potential. Not for those who can't stand watching anime's with no romantic plot, mecha (robots) or fan-service. Also, even though Samurai Champloo is from the same creator of Cowboy Bebop; don't expect to see any kind of similarities anytime soon.

Hey guys!
So I have noticed that there are a ton of litsters out there that like/love anime, but have no idea what's good or what sucks, so I kind of stolen Trombonus' idea of making a Video Game info thread with ratings and such, and made it into a sister thread- just with anime as the subject instead. So hopefully people will enjoy this and this thread, and get a good idea of some great anime's and manga's out there!!! I'm thinking of posting a new anime info blog once a week, with the exception of Christmas and New Years in which there will be two. The ratings will go as such:

0-1 - poor
2-5- fair
6-8- good
8(+)-10- excellent

Over View:
Well, this little story starts off with the characters, Yoshimi, Miho, Konomi, and Hikaru and the only guy by the name of Kenichi. So one day out of sheer convience, all these characters- and a teacher are in the same classroom when BANG!
A flashing light appears out of this mirror artifact they have in the classroom which suddenly puts them in the bodies of eachother. Every so often they switch bodies and decide that "Hey! Since I'm in so and so's body, I'll have sex!". Oh yeah, and they all need to figure out a way to get their own bodies back before the dimensional universe collapses.

The downside:
Story sucks, animation sucks and there's so little sex/intimacy that it makes the whole hentai a dissapointment. Thank-god I had a friend burn it for me for free. A total hit-and-miss.

Elfen Lied is one of those anime's that is just sad. Not like sad in a bad way, but a sad that clings to every bone in your body. It makes your heart ache in sadness and makes you realize how mean and cruel this world can actually be. Full of lush, latin references and beautiful art in which is credited to the wonderful Gustav Klimt. Elfen Lied is also the ONLY anime to this date to have German subtitles.

The story begins with the story of Lucy. A Diclonius with a wicked grudge. A Diclonius is simply put as a girl with pink hair and cat-like ears which are suppose to be "horns". They also have a very deadly weapon that I won't reveal. ( It'll spoil the surprise). So one night, Lucy escapes while in the process, going on a vengeful rampage throughout the contained facility. As she escapes, Lucy get's shot in the head by a sniper in which you assume she falls to her death.

Now enter Nyu.

Nyu's pretty much the adorable, super sweet and innocent girl who is very much like Chii is in Chobits. She isn't smart and has a very hard time figuring out how to be "human". Oh yeah..she's a Diclonius too. Anyway, Nyu gets found washed ashore (and very naked) by a boy named Kohta and a girl named Yuka.
Realizing the girl is obviously deleterious (and bleeding from the head), the two decide to let her live at Kohta's house.

As Nyu is getting accustomed to the big, wonderful world; a special task-force team is searching for Lucy with not much luck. How will Lucy and Nyu blend in? What happened to Lucy? Where did Nyu come from? Is she Lucy? Or is Lucy..Nyu?

Find out what happens...cuz I'm not going to tell you Oh yeah..and many of the chicks are hot...and you get your fair share of fan service.

The downside:

The ending was a bit surprising, and there's a lot of gore...so much. Oh and there's one scene of animal cruelty. If your someone with a very weak stomach, then don't watch this. However, surprisently enough- this is a love story. Aside from the blood and guts..it is reality. A very sad reality on how the world portrays people who are different. A real mind thinker.

Overview:

Truthfully, this is one of those anime thrillers that you need to watch late at night for the creepy effect! A twisty story indeed, Red Garden is about girls and death...literally!

Kate, Rachel, Rose, and Claire are all students at a private school in New York City. Waking up one morning, all of them feel uneasy and restless as they recall strange that none of them can recall anything about the previous night. Their anxiety escalates when the school announces that Lise, another classmate of theirs, was found dead.

After Lise is announced dead, that night; the girls are drawn by red butterflies that they follow them to a specific meeting place. A woman named Lula and her assisting man, JC appear out of no where, telling them they must fight...if they want to live to see another day.

The girls are appointed a task. Kill a man who is like an animal..snapping jaws and all, the terrified girls kill him...in defense. Many questions emerge... which Lula very hesitantly..and calmly tells them their dead. At the time, Lula fails to explain why they died and were reincarnated (until a little later in the series), however..Lula does mention that if they don't fight, they'll die again.

With many questions left unanswered, the girls find themselves on the verge of mental breakdown as the story unfolds more deeply...and more bizzare.

Also, the story has a second half. A character by the name of Herve appears. Herve appears as an enemy to the girls...and especially Lula, but if I give the reason why away..then it makes the anime less fun.

The downside:

At first I hated this anime because it makes you think it's about a bunch of snobby rich girls who just simply died. Woopdie doo. But for some reason, I stuck with it..and voila! A good story unfolded. So try to stay faithful for the series, cuz the surprises it gives you are definitely worth the long wait.

I agree with you 100% on Elfen Lied, LR. It also seemed like they left it undone, at least to me.
