The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

It's time to discuss Tales of The Circle by Laura Lovecraft is our June 2013 BOTM.

Who read it?

What did you think of it?

Do you have any ideas for the August 2013 book?

:rose:

I vote for the new Laurell K Hamilton book. Mostly because I have it and can discuss it. lol

Plus it had a particular bit of my favorite kink in it. :D

That sounds good. I was about to not have a BOTM this month. I may not be able to get it because there are about a million holds on it at the library but I'll get it eventually.

Our August 2013 BDSM BOTM is Affliction by Laurell K. Hamilton.

We need a BDSM BOTM for September any ideas?

Btw, I was able to get Affliction. Now I just need to find the time to read it!

:)

I hear that. I've been reading the Darynda Jones books, but I wouldn't call them kinky. I'll think on it.

3.) Surrender to Fire by Lora Leigh

SurrenderBook 1 in the Bound Hearts seriesCole has wanted Tess for years. And he's warned her of this several times. He's also warned her HOW he wants her. Tied down in his bed, under his domination, surrendering to his desires. . . Fyre Brand She holds the elemental power of fire within her grasp, able to sear, to destroy. But her heart holds the fear of repeating her ancestors' mistakes. Now, amid a world fighting to rebuild, Carmella must learn that she cannot control the power surging through her fragile body alone. She'll need help. But can she accept the future her leader Torren has seen, and the touch of a stranger who is more than he seems? Publisher's Note: Previously available in the Elemental Desires anthology.

By G. Crider "loves to read" I purchased because of Surrender,(#1 of Heart Bounds Series). Not much of a story but the sex is super hot. It's Cole & Tess's story. Fyre Brand is a paranormal, full of good raunchy sex. If you are looking for more from this book don't. Just a good naughty read and a few fun ideas.

I've read this and can discuss it.

5.) Hawkeye One: Danger Zone by Sierra Cartwright

By Bella March

Agents of Hawkeye, Inc. are trained to protect others from danger. They're fierce, capable and equal to any task set before them. This time, that task is protecting fellow agent Wolf Stone from a ruthless criminal, although he'll never admit to or even allow assistance from other agents. But he never counted on the tenacity of former lover Agent Nate Davidson or eager
Agent Kayla Fagan.

When Kayla first witnesses the brutal reunion between Wolf and Nate, she's stunned. She never pictured the two beefy men as homosexual or into BDSM. Then they turn their sites on her and her secret submissive tendencies and life quickly becomes a lot more interesting.

Wolf enjoys his two subs and the threesome quickly become much more than casual play. But once the assignment is over, will he be able to let them into his life on a much more permanent basis?

Danger Zone is the first story in the Hawkeye series by author Sierra Cartwright. While there are two novellas sold as solo works and one novella in the newly released Dom of Dark Haven anthology, all three are able to be read in any order.

Wolf fierce dominance is completely drool worthy, even though he seems hard hearted to Nate and Kayla. Not usually a fan of man love romance, the interaction between Wolf and Nate was completely sizzling. It was easy to see how Kayla was attracted to both Nate and Wolf. Where Wolf was almost aloof at times, Nate was easygoing and loving, providing Kayla a balance of emotions.

Another winner from Ms. Cartwright!

Willing to read this.

Hawkeye One: Danger Zone by Sierra Cartwright was our July 2013 book. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I thought it was pretty hot at times, short and for a BDSM book pretty decent.

Surrender to Fire by Lora Leigh can be our September 2013 book. My library doesn't have it so I may not be able to read it but I'm okay with that.

:rose:

Hawkeye One: Danger Zone by Sierra Cartwright was our July 2013 book.

Oh. Huh.

Hawkeye One: Danger Zone

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yeah. Not the best I've read, but certainly not the worst. For a BDSM book, however it rated five stars. lol

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I guess I'd say it pretty real, and definitely positive.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

Oddly, yes. Normally m/m erotica doesn't do anything for me, this was pretty hot. The m/f erotica was VERY hot.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

It was very predictable, but not badly written.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

The sex. I was also relieved that the story was well written.

What did you like the least?

The story line was really predictable.

How would you have changed the story?

It would have been nice to have some mystery.

I never buy hardbacks I've not read anymore. I sometimes buy books I've read as gift for others. This book, the fifth one in the series will go on my beach list and I will get from the library in 2014.

:rose:

Yep, me too. The fifth one is out, but it's a bit spendy.:(

....covet:eek:

Beautiful Graceanne that's for your thoughts on Hawkeye and all of your help on this thread.

:rose::rose::rose:

Me too. So far we've done these below. Maybe we should redo some of them? They are by far, my fav BDSM novels so far.

i like the Kushiel series

What did you like the least?

In my experience and to my disappointment, Dom's do not just "exude power and so on."

The idea by the woman, that the woman said, "I just want to be shattered." Ugh. I hate that sort of thing.

The Dom had "lot's of toys." Presumably because he'd used them before on others. Ugh.

And it was rather a short novella.

Agreed. I just tend to skim over that stuff, especially the toys part. Ew.

How would you have changed the story?

I would not say things like, "he would never safeword." That's unwise and it leads people to think that's real and cool. It's kind of like "never tap out" right and end up in the hospital idiot.

Another part I ended up kinda skimming over, but is common in bdsm stories. It used to really bug me, but I've gotten to where I can just ignore it. I do not, for the life of me, understand the whole 'never safeword' thing.

I should follow your example. Maybe someday I will but for now this sort of thing really bugs me. I guess I just want better BDSM novels or even stroke novels. LOL

It's time to discuss, our August 2013 BDSM BOTM, Affliction by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Who read along this month?

:rose:

Affliction

Did you like the book overall or not?

Yes

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Well, as per normal in L. K. Hamilton books, the sex is bdsm but the lifestyle isn't.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

Yes. The breath play scene just took my breath away. :p

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Yep, it was an interesting twist.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes.

What did you like best about this selection?

I love LK Hamilton, and I love her Anita Blake series. The story was awesome, the characters are interesting, and the sex is hot. What else could you ask for from a novel?

What did you like the least?

Off hand I can't think of anything I didn't like.

How would you have changed the story?

Nada

Glad you enjoyed the book Beautiful Graceanne.

Maybe I was in a bad mood but I had a more negative reaction.

Affliction by Laurell K. Hamilton BDSM 3/5

Did you like the book overall or not?

It was okay for me. At times I didn't want to pick it back up. Btw, I think I skipped the one before this one.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

I guess I'd say it pretty real, and somewhat positive. However, something about the way Laurell K. Hamiton writes about BDSM usually rubs me the wrong way. The one thing she writes about it that I like is how submissives are actually strong not weak.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

I'm so sick of Laurell K. Hamilton's sex scenes that I skip over most of them. I did like that powers weren't gained through them this time and one other thing that I'll discuss later.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

It was okay.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Maybe

What did you like best about this selection?

The new things, location, characters and so on.

What did you like the least?

The sameness to a lot of it.

How would you have changed the story?

IDK.

General notes:

Okay first of all since when has Anita had EE boobs? I mean I knew she was busty and they were always talking about that creamy goodness but that's a lot for someone who runs and does combat all the time.

Later she has on a push up bra. Now my girl has DD boobs and finding a push up bra for those or any bra that's not just plain ugly isn't easy. I think Laurell is indulging in some serious fantasy here. Both of these items jarred me out of my willful suspension of disbelief.

Next item, she talks about God being lonely and not having a wife and so on. I was not thrilled with the theological leanings there. I will say Anita has always said she believed. We've always known she was catholic.

Later it comes up again with a doctor who is atheist and who sees supernatural stuff in the room with Anita. It kind of makes fun of him. I didn't care for that because I'm atheist but whatever.

Speaking of doctors, I've never seen a vampire doctor in these books before. That was another startlement to my willful suspension of disbelief. I don't think anyone would trust a vampire to be a doctor in that world.

I skipped over most of the sex scenes. The one that caught my eye was the one with breath control. I read most of it. I liked that finally she wrote something new about sex.

Other issues I had were that Anita, after being told she needs to drink 10 bottles of water a day due to altitude sickness drinks exactly none. WTF?!? It's one thing not to take care of yourself but it's another thing to not take care of yourself so you don't hurt everyone tied to you and/or so you can't do your job as well. That really bothered me a great deal.

I'm really getting irritated with her looking at everyone, each time they say something and dissecting what is behind what they said and all. Maybe I'm just getting sick of reading her stuff? But there is an awful lot of sameness to it. I thought she had maybe gotten over dissecting all relationships and feelings but she is at it again which brings me to.

Something was off about Anita's as a character. Personally I think she is pregnant, and thus the throwing up and more emotional, going back to bad habits. I know she is not supposed to be able to be pregnant but I think she is.

How long do you think it will take until she makes Asher's new lover, to be her werehyena to call? I see that coming.

Also the constant touching and kissing each person thing was out of control. I was surprised that Micah was doing it as he is supposed to give a damn about political things but Anita continued doing it even on the job. It felt out of control and wrong to me.

That's right, I remember that annoyed me, too. I sold lingerie for a year and only two types of people had boobs that big (who weren't lactating) and they were either a little chubby (not always fat, but not skinny) or people who'd had boob jobs. I don't know if Hamilton was doing fantasy here, or writing it for someone in her life, but VERY unbelievable.

Yeah, that's the scene in particular that did it for me. I have to agree that her sex scenes have become somewhat predictable, so it was nice to see something a little edgier.

Hamilton's main characters always tend to over disect everything, and that's my main objection to her. I often just scan those parts, because the rest makes it worth it to me.

I agree about Anita's character. The I love you more stuff made me want to gag, and I hate it when people are like that in real life. I have a friend who always ends conversations with her bestfriend/sister 'i love you. i love you, too. jesus loves us best.' *gag* Since Anita isn't real, I don't know if she's pregnant, but I gotta wonder if Hamilton is.

How long do you think it will take until she makes Asher's new lover, to be her werehyena to call? I see that coming.

Oh, yeah. I don't think anyone couldn't see that one coming.

Kewl. Glad we agree on those points.

Maybe we should do a catch up on the series. I think the last book we did in the group was, Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton, our December 2011 BOTM. Which means that we have skipped,

Flirt (novella)
Bullet
Hit List
Beauty (Outtake)
Kiss the Dead

I know I haven't read two of those, the last two. Maybe more.

We do seem to be up to date on the Merry Gentry series.
