The "Fuck you Covid19" thread

Fuck the millions of idiots who are driving this pandemic into a 4th surge. And maybe spawning variants that will render current vaccines less useful.

I am SO tired of explaining asymptomatic transmission.
So TIRED of explaning why the vaccines work and why yes, it is safe for you to get one.
So tired of EXPLAINING what kinds of activities are probably not okay and why, only to know that half the time my well reasoned advice will be ignored

I am just SO TIRED.

Fuck you Covid

I get my first shot tomorrow. Been waiting over a month for someone in my county to give the vaccination on a Sat. Some of us do work. Well they called me...can you come in early...we don't have enough people signed up to do a 4 hr window. Seriously fucked up how one demographic group continues to harm this country. You know who you are. Can't wait til you get sick and die. Fuckers.

Partner got her first shot of AZ the other day. It's been knocking her around a bit, but I think it'll be a big weight off her mind once she gets the second shot.

Waves is the right word. And we're drowning thanks to the people refusing vaccinations 🥺

It's so frustrating here. We have Pfizer (intended for younger people, in short supply), and AstraZeneca for older people. Because AZ has a *tiny* chance of side effects (~ one in a million of death), a lot of older folk are refusing to take it and waiting until they can get Pfizer.

Which means that in the meantime we're running at something like 10% fully vaccinated, and having a lot of trouble keeping the current outbreak of Delta from exploding. A couple of thousand people infected in this latest outbreak, and it's already caused more deaths than we've had from millions of AZ vaccinations. But assholes want to wait for months for an infinitesimally "better" option, increasing the risks to themselves and everybody else, and forcing us back into lockdown.

Things seem to be improving in my state - down to ten cases a day, and for the last few days all of those have been people who were already IDed as contacts and were isolating so they shouldn't have been able to pass it on. Looks like we're getting close to wiping it out again here. But our neighbours in NSW have it worse and if it blows up there, we're inevitably going to get more leaks.

I could deal with last year's lockdowns better, it's more frustrating now when we have vaccines but selfishness and bad messaging are drawing things out.

according to news we have sorta the same basic issue although with higher vaccination rates (over 60% have their first shot, around 50% are fully vaccinated) and we have 4 vaccines (Biotech(Pfizer) AZ Moderna J+J) low case numbers but mostly delta and numbers slowly rising again but travelling for vacation is of course too important  or partying without masks or distance

It’s the travel that gets me. Families going to Florida (of all places?!?!), groups of people I know in Europe (from when I lived there) going to Italy or South of France or Prague. Why??? They KNOW it’s not a great time but they feel entitled to a vacation. When significant numbers of people aren’t fully vaccinated, WHY would you risk it? The entitlement is fucking amazing.

The greatest commonality in the European friends traveling is that they have no kids and truly do not care about how the virus has and will continue to impact kids (risks of developing T1 diabetes, for example, to say nothing of their mental health). And in traveling American friends it’s ‘we put this trip off for over a year, damnit!’ Everyone wants to somehow go back to relative normal while really doing nothing to try to get us there at this point because they’re tired of it. I’m tired of people complaining they can’t work normally or their kids can’t go back to school properly also being the ones traveling or gathering in large groups.

even i at my young age have been smart enough to know all that :sighs: people contradicting themselves in the big picture is the worst thing

Contradicting or hypocritical on the one hand. On the other, I think some people just don’t see their behavior as problematic during this time. It’s always someone else’s fault. I have a friend obsessed with mask wearing. I love her, but everyone masking outside isn’t going to change much. She’ll literally make snide comments near folks without masks like ‘oh I guess covid is over!’ But she went to fucking DISNEY WORLD in March. I’m not the problem! The guys jogging without masks are!

My congregation shares sanctuary space with a fundamentalist Baptist church. Their pastor came in on Sunday complaining that mask rules are coming back and they're not gonna do it. He's also been telling his people not to get vaccinated. I can't imagine how willfully blind he must be to not see that the one directly results in the other. I really want to look into terminating this guy's lease.

People standing on "religion" to not get vaxxed or wear masks have literally never read the Bible. I've written my share of youth focused sermons (in a previous life ) and I could preach like three messages about how Godly it is to do this.

I keep reading things where people keep saying "I respect your decision not to get vaccinated...." yada yada yada. Well I do NOT respect it and it says such a fundamental thing about someone that it says all I need to know.

Sorry, I'm ranting but I'm tired - tired of working, tired of people's ignorance and entitlement, tired of watching professionals with decades of experience give up because they can't deal with it anymore...

I'm right there with ya.

When I asked what kind I was getting when I got my first shot, the nurse told me I’d get Pfizer because of the risk for clots. I said that i found it interesting considering that a doctor would happily prescribe me the pill with a decidedly higher risk of blood clots. She just groaned and told me not to get her started.

Tomorrow kids 12-18 can start booking their shots. Will be interesting how many go for it.

Preach it, Sister! ;)

I am sick to death of people talking about "my rights", ignoring completely the larger population who would enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, especially life.

It's the constitutional whine.

That's one of the things that really worries me. People talk about the death rate as if that was the only measure of the damage it does, but the evidence is building up that a lot of survivors have serious long-term harm.

We have an entire genre of "journalism" now based on "person goes to park/beach to complain about how many people are there".

As somebody commented: "I've seen her doing lines in a public bathroom and now she has concerns about what's in the vaccine?"

Oh well, this article is very topical here:

It’s sad to read that they have to deal with droves of angry mail about this. It seems like a rather obvious safety measure to me.

Our numbers are soaring. If there's a silver lining here, it's that almost all of them refused the vaccine. Liberty ain't free.

That article was amazing. I may have just sent it to my Mennonite family 😎

I'm with y'all in exasperated bewilderment.

I gave birth in November and have a strict vaccinated visitors only policy. My husband's family haven't met the newest family member yet. They're now considering the vaccine because they want to go on a fucking cruise. It's hard to not judge their priorities.

My sister has a child who has cerebral palsy and struggles with pneumonia. Covid has already killed the patriarch of our family and still she won't get the vaccine. She says she's not scared of covid. Last night my father and I were putting together a support plan so that if her son does contract covid we are ready to be there for her family. She's already lost one child and I cannot imagine the cognitive dissonance that will come in to play if she loses a second.

At the the of all this (which will happen albeit a little anticlimactically) we are going to have a lot of healing to do. I want to do an experiment where people swap Facebook or Instagram accounts with someone just to see how different the information being presented actually is. The best thing I did last year was shed social media. I think so many of us are operating from the perspective that we all have access to the same information and we really don't.

I don't know how to get through to people.i can't just inject all my medical training and pandemic prep experience. At every turn of this pandemic I have been shook to my core by the utter failure as a society to do the right thing to reduce transmission. I guess I've been humbled into a state of distrust and skepticism. Not of the science, but of my fellow citizens.

Despite of (or maybe because of) the prize dickhead we have in charge here in the UK, and his decision to lift all restrictions, everyone I know has jumped at the chance of getting vaccinated - even the young ones. And most people are still wearing masks indoors and on public transport.

Stay safe xxx

A Lally sighting!:D

Our office changed policies today because of the numbers. We were allowing people in the office without masks if they have been vaccinated.

As of today, no one comes in without a mask and we have considered reverting back to zoom and phonecalls.

Yet, I'm getting funny looks when I wander through the grocery store in a mask because no one else is masked.
