The Halloween 2024 Official Contest Support Thread!

I think it's funny that mine is rated lower than my first story, but is favorite of more people by far. I'm planning on doing mostly contests until I have at least five stories up, or I feel like it's hard to build a following. If I end up writing on a really regular basis I want people to see it so it's read, at least. But popularity contests are always a hoot.

Don't worry too much about the absolute rating - there are some nice ideas there and you've got more pumpkin guts than any other entry - that's going to count in the long run. Keep writing! :) (y)

I haven't read them all, but yes, I assume I have the most pumpkin guts. Thank you for your encouragement. It is very much appreciated. I'm most of the way through your stories now, and I've enjoyed them immensely.

I have just submitted a story 'The-Devil-Does-Care About Attitude' that I was suddenly inspired to write (having read Freya Gersemi's one, though they are like sunrise and sunset) and did so in just over two days and then Freya did a stonking job on proof reading* and sprinkled her star dust across it. I don't know where the idea came from and the plot just came along as required, like someone whispering it in my ear. (Nearly as fast as my April Fools story that was a rush job but without benefit of either a screen read or proof reader). In a fit of madness I went for Mind Control, though I could have had Romance or Erotic Couplings, there is a bit of Exhibitionism as well

What the Literotica world makes of it remains to be seen. Assuming it doesn't glitch with Moderators!

*856 edits in 10500 words, so about once every 12 words! I almost feed, OK do feel, exhausted!

I'm quite late announcing this, I didn't get up in time to do so before work this morning and I just got back home a few minutes ago, but The Alluring Stranger is now live!

Eric has had poor luck with the ladies his entire life, but a friend makes a bet with him: Eric will meet a lady at an upcoming Halloween party or he will pay him $1,000. Although Eric is sure that history will repeat itself, his friend has a sure winner from a very unexpected source!

Oh my god, I checked this morning before work, it had a rating of 4.5 between two people. I get home from work... holy SHIT!!! I was really proud of this story but wow... I don't know if it will win, but I'm happy it has done this well on the first day! I am keeping in mind that rating bombs (or whatever that term is) can happen as it does to other contestants.

With that, good luck to everyone who enters!

What do David Lee Roth, Dan Ackroyd, Richard Gere, World of Warcraft, Insane Clown Posse, and siblings attending a Victorian-style masquerade ball have in common?

A direct or indirect reference in "Double Blind", an I/T Halloween tale that probably didn't need to be written.

It still needs a listen-through, word cloud check, and a final reading. I should be able to submit it in time to go up this weekend.

Included at no extra charge are references to Call of Duty, Beetlejuice, and Warren Zevon.

Due to go live tomorrow 10th October and instead of inspired I should have said possessed, or was that just enticed?

I Love You So Much, It's Scary isn't just the name of an insanely catchy song from the TV show Bob's Burgers, it's also my story submission for this contest.

I've gotten so much positive feedback already from it. There's something about taking part in a contest after lurking on the website for the longest time that is just so incredibly special for myself.

With the caveat that a number of us forgot to tag it for Halloween 2024, and therefore don't show up on that list. Lol.
Exactly!!! I was shocked to see that I was tied for third place... Until I noticed entries that were not tagged and have much higher scores than my story. Oh, well. I never imagined that my wacky story would do that well anyway. I really need to get hundreds and hundreds more followers, write stories that are 60K+ words, and use WAY more adjectives and similes and deep metaphors than I do. Someday...

I love it when the story leads the author to new places - it's a sign of the situation and characters flowing through you.
As I have said before (one of my fave authors Terry Pratchett said in an interview, (approximate quote) he sets the scene and introduces the characters and they have their own ideas on there the story goes and they have better ones than him. I have found that quite often, but my Halloween one was almost spooky in how it told itself to me! Like someone whispering it in my ear!
