The Halloween 2024 Official Contest Support Thread!

Spellbound and Stupefied is now live!

Three college-aged witches attempt to summon Satan on the night of Halloween so they can rule the world by his side as his personal harem. They have everything they need as the “tome” says, what could go wrong, besides the fact they don’t have a functioning brain between them!

This story answers the age-old question: what if the Sanderson Sisters got knocked up by the Three Stooges and had their daughters? While I don’t expect this one to do was well as “The Alluring Stranger” and I don’t know how well it will resonate with readers that have never seen a Stooges short, I think fans of the Stooges will enjoy this.

Purrfectly Playful

I really want someone to write a version of this from Tom's POV and one from Jen's POV (could be during this chain events, before it, or even after it.) I was going to add a note at the end suggesting that if anyone would like to, just message me and I'd work with them on it, but I ended up chickening out, lol.

I had a ton of fun writing this one and am thankful for the couple of people who gave it a read for me and gave me their input.

That said:

Kitten was just a nickname between friends Tommy and Kate. At least, it was until fellow friend, and co-worker to both, Jen gets bored and decides the office could use some insatiable gossip around the water cooler. A devilish idea turns a sweet inside joke into a sensual game that sets Kate's desire to a previously unknown level. Her sweet demeanor makes for an easy target as her friend teases her with pieces to a sexy kitten costume for Halloween, but the final piece might just be going overboard. Jen quickly pushes Kate to the brink of ruining a treasured friendship in favor of fulfilling passion that turns from a simmer to a boil after Tommy helps her into her costume. Will Tommy's reputation as a prowling lady's man come back to bite Kate on the ass, or has the promise of being more than friends with Kitten tamed his alley-cat ways?

19K words
Erotic Couplings (Didn't play into the fetish enough for fetish and was too fetishy for romance, lol)

Kinks: slight dubcon, public forced orgasm, vibrating tail butt plug, no panties, corset, hair pulling, messy blowjob, D/s dynamic, pet play, kitten costume, leash and collar, building fantasies

Anybody else noticing interesting behavior on the voting for this? When does Laurel usually do sweeps for contests?

My offering has been hanging around the suckiteria for the last few days.
I see nothing interesting about that.
What do you see?

My story has been stagnant, Changing neither rating nor readership.
It’s a crowded field. 152 entries by my count. I may yet crack a 4, Inshallah.

Dramatic fluctuation in voting score. It happens occasionally, and I know Laurel has scans she uses to try to mediate, I'm just curious if it's widespread.

I haven't been keeping strict notice, but mine went from 4.83 down to 4.47 slowly up to 4.7(something), down to the high 4.6 range, and has plummeted (with just a handful of new votes) to 4.4. So, yeah... interesting behavior... 🤷‍♀️

Yes, definitely. Mine was out on the first day so it attracted a lot of votes, for better or worse, and it was definitely being pushed up and down a lot by bombs and bouquets. It's not moving much now (sitting on 4.82) because of the inertia of previous votes and because there are 100+ other stories for people to read, but I would love to see how many of those earlier votes were 1 bombs. I would like to think that most voters are sensible people....

There's often a fairly substantial one around the time submissions close. Then there are others during the week, on what seems to be an intermittent basis. But none of those matter much at all; the final sweep is deep and sudden, and it often throws the submission list into a tailspin.

The healthiest way to look at the scores is to accept that they are meaningless, in terms of who the winners are, until the moment the contest ends. And since you don't know precisely when that is, there's no point worrying about it. In the meantime, your score mostly only matters in terms of how many extra eyeballs it's likely to attract.

I noticed a huge influx of voting over the last 12 hours. My story has spent the past 5 days or so getting maybe 1 vote a day (on the 14th I had 128 votes, 12 hours ago I had 132 votes), then suddenly ten votes pushing it down from 4.44-4.32.

After going onto the contest list where the story took an initial hit and dropped to that 4.4 mark, its spent most of this month hovering on the border of having/not having that red H (eg the high 4.4s/low4.5s) and has been relatively stable, so it was interesting to see it take such a big dive in such a short amount of time. The average rating of these ten new votes is about 2.7 which seems unusually low for ten votes in a row on a story which has been sitting relatively steady for most of the month, after the initial hit.

(also somewhat interestingly, is earlier this month when people were voting on my Halloween story, they were also voting on my other stories. Not 1:1 obviously, but I'd see some flow through. The past 12 hours the only votes I've got have been those 10 on the Halloween story.)

I'm right there with you, sister. The comments have been good though, so there are people out there who "get it", which is heartening.

I have just submitted my second entry for publication. My first one was more romantic, but this one is a silly comedy. All I will say about it for now is that I watched a helluva lot of "The Three Stooges" for inspiration.
You have my sympathy. Tres Stugis used to give me a migraine.
‘Hey Moe! Hey Curly!! Hey Moe! Nyuk nyuk nyuk!’
Violent mayhem slapstick; fuel for nightmares.
The funniest line I recall was Larry saying, “ I’m going fishing.”
Curly asked, “Do you have worms?”
Larry said, “Yeah, but I’m going anyway.” LOL.

It's been weird for me, too. In the two previous contests, my entries started strong and then were gradually hammered down, until the final sweeps brought them back up (and usually above any ratings they had previously).

In this case, it started "low" at 4.4-ish and it's been slowly climbing up ever since, resting currently at 4.71. It's a category I haven't posted in previously, so I don't know if that has any bearing on it, but considering the comments have been very positive so far... Maybe it's actually decent? :)

FINALLY got my story submitted, just under the wire. It's a fun tale of a past girlfriend wearing three different costumes over the Halloween season.

I started this one a while back and thought I had plenty of time..until I didn't. I knew the basis of the story and had the beginning and end - but struggled for weeks with the middle. Because I base all my stories on real events, I figured out I was getting too liberal with the truth in the middle section and that's why I was having problems. I was basically writing pure fiction rather than a variation of what occurred.

When I went back and made everything closer to reality, it came together quickly. Hoping I caught all the typos and edits! Better start on the Winter story now, though!

I was going to make a comment, but realised (thanks Google) that I had confused them with the Marx Brothers, who I rate 100 times funnier - actually wittier! (A mistake only a right pondian could make!) I was thinking of the film where Groucho and Chico are discussing a contract and keep tearing the clauses out - getting to the one about the paries being sane - "Driftwood : It's all right, that's in every contract. That's what they call a sanity clause. Fiorello : You can't fool me! There ain't no Sanity Claus!" And with that there is no contact left to sign!

Back on theme - I haven't seen much difference in votes (29 total), or rate of reads 6.6k growing slowly, and only 1 comment from a reader! I suspect a sweep won't boost my score (4.03) and if it did then I'd fall below the required 25. But it was fun writing it, just feel a bit for my fantastic beta reader 👩‍🦰 who sprinkled stardust, punctuation and typo fixes in record time!

Well, I just read your story and really enjoyed it! So you should now have 30 votes ;)

I remember that joke now that you mention it.
Most of their humor was too subtle for me to appreciate.
I’m more of a Dave Chappelle fan.
He expounded on the tragedy of terminal diarrhea.
My favorite was his idea of a superhero who activated his powers by fondling a woman’s vagina.
The urgency of the situation left no time for consent, so he just groped genitals and proceeded to save the day.
He was described as: “He rapes to save. He saves more than he rapes. But he does rape.”
He went on to compare his hero to Bill Cosby

Back to the Marx Bros. Harpo always frightened me. His mute nature and demented visage fueled my nightmares. He was rumored to be hung like a stud Shetland pony as well.

I’m aware that I am consistently off topic, but I just finished watching the miniseries Lonesome Dove.
It’s far and away one of my favorites. Undying love. What can go wrong?
The character of Augustus McCrea struck me at my core.

In a feeble attempt o get back on track, I’d like to share one of the songs from the bottomless jukebox
in Ray’s Tavern in my story The Skinwalker..

Date range was set to All-Time.

The Ghost of Benanee :-

only turns up in the 'Halloween 2024' Tag search, not (AFAICT) on the official list. Another -ve point for doing a Tag search!
Rustyoznail had the tags pink orchid 2024 & halloween and the search engine has clearly conflated the two.
Checks 'australia ghost' match and one other: 'ghost orchid' match plus a different one other.
🤔 Tag search is either very clever or very stupid. Not venturing an opinion on either!
