The Halloween 2024 Official Contest Support Thread!

Ha! Fun fact - there are no less than 13 Literotica members with masterbaiter in their handle! I only know this because one of them follows me and has left some really nice comments. It's almost like everybody here has sex on their minds. :) Thanks for the reply and your kind words. I'm sure that some of your regular readers will spot the joke instantly - of course, for those who don't and enjoy the story on its own terms, that's fine too :)
You'll get me onto Captain Pugwash (kids TV cartoon) with its aptly named characters including Master Bates

Same for me: submitted on day before last, on line on last day, I think I got enough votes to qualify.
Question: 10k readership, 57 votes, 13 favourites yet not a single comment - what conclusion should I draw?
Let's assume that it takes 4 minutes to read 1000 words. Your story is 16000 words. So, if we assume that a tenth of those 10000 readers finished the story, that's 1000 readers x 4 x 16 = about 64000 minutes (1066 hours) of reading pleasure that you've given to the world. Even if those assumptions are too generous, it's a lot of special time cuddled up with a device. 57 of those people have been moved to vote on it. I reckon the comments will come, perhaps after they've been through batch processing today / tonight.

Sadly that is a myth created by people like me when going through puberty when it was being shown. Oh and the cabin boy wasn't called Roger - as in Roger the Cabin Boy! The BBC wouldn't have allowed that sort of thing (OK Kennith Williams use of Polari (sp) passed them by as either they didn't know what he was saying, or would 'out' themselves if they said they did.😉)
Goes with the Limerick...
We were on the good ship Venus
My God you should have seen us
Our figure head
Was a nude in bed
Sucking the Captain's penis!
🏃🏼‍♂️💨Runs off in shame from 55 years ago!

In search of fresh premise. Came across.

Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small
Though it hasn't really been that long a time
What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all
Although for a while, our path did seem to climb
But when you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool

Fountain of Sorrow —. Jackson Browne

La musica. La musica.

Not for Halloween, but I think that a whole Author Challenge could be constructed around Browne's "In the Shape of a Heart".

...There was a hole left in the wall
From some ancient fight
About the size of a fist
Or something thrown that had missed
There were other holes as well
In the house where our nights fell
Far too many to repair
In the time that we were there
People speak of love, don't know what they're thinking of
Reach out to each other through the push and shove
Speak in terms of a life and the learning
Try to think of a word for the burning
You keep it up, you try so hard
To keep a life from coming apart
Never know what breaches and faults are concealed
In the shape of a heart...

I have only written one story related to a song 'Missing' by Everthing but the Girl I Step off the Train but only because I heard it whilst driving and suddenly my mind was full of questions. How did someone she care about 'dissapear somewhere'? Why was she back on his street again? Why did she need a train to get there? What had they been to each other that she was still doing this - that she can't move on? Would they find eachother again - ever?
Sorry - I can be a soppy romantic sometimes and I'm actually crying typing this - having pulled up the lyrics.

Story stort of wrote itself from answering those questions, but not to everyone's satisfaction!

I keep wondering about other songs
Band of Gold (Freda Payne). Has possibilities
Centrefold (J. Geils Band) Seems a bit abusive for my tastes*. Other's might want to take it on - what happened after? Did she hope her 'dream boy' would see the magazine?
I might have ideas about Don't stand so close to me (Police) but it's difficult to get the girl to be 18+ when the implcation is she is around the age of consent in the UK - no I think the song has all the angles covered.

Anyway, my writing has been hijacked by [1 E 4 +3 F 9 : 4 0 8 5 +3 D A E] Android Herman. A supposed One Off that has a late draft for Part 1, semi first draft for Part 2, ideas for a definate Part 3... It will either sink or swim, Herman can do either for several hours until he needs oxygenation, hydration, waste disposal or a meal.

*Along with Roxanne (Police); Live it up (Mental as Anything); Don't you want me baby (Human League)

Good Golly, Miss Molly!
I’m surprised you’re familiar with Mr. Browne’s work. I had thought him an obscure indie soul.
The lyrics you brought up with ‘In the Shape of a Heart’ knocked my cap back.
So much is said solely by invocation.

My voluminous collection of stories are inspired by at least a title. Save one.
I’m in awe of songwriters in general. They possess the one-two knockout power of a prizefighter.
There are so many greats. Elvis Presley, heavily influenced by Gospel and R&B.
The incomparable duo of Lennon/McCartney. An inexhaustible cadre of gifted poets toiling in obscurity.
Leon Russell. He’s not high here.

Ze Mad Dogs, Ze Englishmen… Joe Cockair!

Damn Hippies!

I just checked - there are 202 entries. Good grief!
Wowzers!! Does anyone know if this is the highest number of entries for any contest on Literotica? That's a lot of action! And by the way, is the monthly contest still going on? With so much attention that authors give these contests, I would think the contests would be a huge part of the Lietrotica experience.

So if I released my story at literally 11:58pm yesterday what are my chances to get the necessary votes? I just wanted to finish a story by a deadline for once so that was my main focus, but i'm curious if I could even qualify for the contest lol. If not that's totally fine.

Reduced threshold for this one, only 25 needed. I guess it depends on how many people look for your stories to pop up, the first ten are the hardest for any story to get but the H tag draws eyes

Don't forget Hector's house, pretty sure Hector Kiki & Zsazsa had plenty of three way fun behind the scenes? How many other kids programs had a sexual undercurrent :)

Pee Wee’s Playhouse was a Saturday morning favorite here. My daughter and I hardly ever missed it.
I saw Hector's house back in the day, but there was also Crystal Tits and Alice-spare (All I can recall is the mangled title) but by that time I was 15 so not intersted in Kids TV!

Probably.

A lot of it depends on the category. You'd have no problem in I/T and a big problem in Illustrated. EC would be somewhere in the middle.

25 votes is do-able.

It's now up to 209 stories - I wonder if there are still some that haven't been published yet? Some writers are really into Halloween, too - I didn't realise how many multiple entries there were until I sorted by author name. Just how many spooky parties can you get to in one night, anyway? The max seems to be eight. :)

(This is just a straight copy of the web page into Excel and then a sort by column B, then pasted here as a graphic because it exceeds the character count. Doing it like this gives you a spreadsheet with links to each story, where you could theoretically work through each story, record your scores and so on if you didn't have a day job)
(Edited to make the graphic slightly readable)

Normally if I understood the rules correctly you qualify if you get at least 25 votes - normally in one week it should be possible.

The problem is that the contest ended yesterday. So, if I understand the question correctly, the story had 60 seconds to get 25 votes. I think that might be tough to do.

View attachment 2414286JimBob44 is off the reservation with 8 submissions. And they’re captivating. He cranks them out two at a time. Beyond prolific.

Jim Bob44 has 8 submissions. I’ve read a couple and they’re captivating to me. He cranks them out two at a time. Beyond prolific. He’s gone off the reservation.

Personally, it’s been a good day for me. I made progress on a first love theme. She’s such a lovely gell.
I made her love interest Australian for some unknown reason. Not a clue what drives him. That never stopped me before.
More weirdness ensues.
