The Nail Thread

I wanted to test a new nail polish I bought today. It's a little more muted and muddier in real life than it is in the pic. I like it. :)

I saw the color before you deleted. I liked it, very classic, elegant, but also a side of pop so it didn't read matronly.

Oh my. Though you know, there are fetishists for that too apparently (things I learn from Reddit). You might just have provided material.

Not nails but it is related. Hubby made me a nail polish cabinet for my birthday. (I asked for a second for Christmas.) I am into homemade gifts, live plants over flowers, that sort of thing. It was also made from scrapped wood, which is another thing I like doing, repurposing. I'd like to say this is all of the polish I have, but I'd be lying. This is holding about 2/3 though. Of course, some is double stacked. Did I mention that I am kind of into polish?

What I thought was really sweet, the doors appear to be vertically off center. The reason was so when I push the doors in to open, if I put my hand on the bottom of the door to open it further, I can't accidentally bump the cabinet with wet nails because the bottom doors are lower than the cabinet itself. That is also why he went with magnetic spring closure too.

I've come to enjoy matronly! A lot of bright and lively things these days makes me feel like I'm too old for them. I never thought it'd happen so fast. :D

Wow, that's a gigantic collection! How do you keep them from not getting gooey? Even with my very modest collection that has become a problem, no matter how carefully I close the bottles. I wish they would make more minis for that reason.

Do you have a brand you prefer? Do you have a favorite color you prefer? How often do you change your nail design?

haha. I might end up 80 with neon leopard nails.

I actually don't have much of a problem with gooey unless I am doing something and fighting with it, like water marbling. I keep methyl acetate in case. I think living in Florida may play a part. I've heard cooler stored nail polish tends to thicken, warmer stored nail polish tends to degrade in color. Not much thickening, but I have had a red revlon turn silver. weird. I like orly, zoya, color club, and pop polish. I like orly's cream, zoya's metallics, color clubs holos, and pop's multi chromatics, but I will try anything. I lean towards vampy reds if not doing themes, challenges, or trades. I redo my mani every 2 or 3 weeks, whenever something chips. pedi maybe every 6 weeks, they don't chip so when I need to cut them.

what are your preferred brands?

I've never thought that climate might affect how well the nail polish keeps. But it makes sense.

I have mostly Essie and Mavala. I like it that Mavala offers smaller bottles, so there's a chance I might be able to use it. I also liked Sinful Colors, but they don't seem to be imported here anymore. I don't have a huge collection, but definitely more than what I need.

I can never make my nails last more than a few days. They always start to chip on the tips. Usually after three days I'll have to fix the nails a little or do them again altogether. But it's okay, I'll have more opportunities to switch it up that way!

I have never tried mavala.

I think longevity has a few factors. How often nails are in water, which I'd say mine are average. Brands make a little difference, but not as much as many think. Composition plays a big part in my mind, ie glitter seems the most durable, followed by metallic dust, and cream lower on durability. Then prep technique and top coating technique play a big part in my opinion. If i want polish to only last a week, I change my technique so it will chip faster so less to remove.

ƪ(˘⌣˘)ʃ whatever, it’s not cool to harass people for feet pics in this thread or elsewhere.

I agree, but I also think those feet needed acknowledgement, and they don't leave a lot of room for joking, because damn, they are rough. I am not sure how things even get to that point. Seriously, how? I thought you made the point well. Very direct, simple, and with a mirror level of cringe. Of course, I am reading this like a nail art thread, not a more lit thread. With Lit, sometimes I have a harder time determining what is acceptable versus what isn't, and where, thus I just avoid sexualizing unless it is clearly a sexualized thread. I did not read this as a sexualized thread personally.

pretty color. I think I might have actually gotten this recently in a beyond polish mystery box sale (I can't resist surprises, clearance, or polish, so combining the three gets me every time)

Well, I cracked a nail. only way I was saving any length was changing shape. The middle finger is the one that cracked a millimeter or two in from the side, right at the top of my finger). I used the reshaping as an excuse to retry what I did 2 weeks ago, keeping out the purple, and adding a gold gradient to every nail. I think my lace was better 2 weeks ago, not sure why I struggled this time.

the pointed nail is definitely a change. not sure what I think about it.

still liking the rainbow holographic shimmer of the teal (color club angel kiss)

I love your nails, and I would get that design, but my nails are SO SHORT.
I mean. I like them short, but the daggers look cool.

thanks. I have actually never tried anything stiletto or stiletto like and I probably should have tried by now. I just suspect I am going to hurt myself. We shall see, I might go sharper next paint if I manage to not stab myself in the eye or something over the next 2 weeks as I think the shape would fit well for Halloween.

How do you change your technique?

I thought I was an exception as I've never had a pedicure! Guess not.

I have learned it is a rarity apparently.

How do you change your technique?

well, to me, the concepts of polish is basically the same as any enamel paint. The things that need to be considered are dirt, water, oil, other residues, existing finish, high humidity, primer, weak points. So I found don't paint my nails outside on the porch without the AC the humidity is too high. Next, polish will work better on a less smooth finish. If I really want it to last, I do a quick rough buff with a nail buffer, and not the smooth and shine steps. I don't usually buff because I am also that girl who tends to peel off her polish when it starts to chip, but giving them a little texture will help. Polish doesn't want to stick to cuticles, but water soaking or oils are what is used to push cuticles back, but nails are porous so doing it before painting will hurt the adherence of polish. Thus, I will push them down in the shower the day before or early that day and try to avoid prolonged water contact in the hour or two prior to painting. I still need to clean them prior to painting though obviously, but don't want water or any residue, so I clean them prior with just pure acetone. Not the frilly nourishing, strengthening, or scented polish removers because they add oils, silicone, and glycerin which is what I want to strip. I actually buy acetone from the hardware store. It is much cheaper than pure acetone in the beauty store, and it comes in child proof and fire resistant containers. Many would argue the pure acetone in hardware stores is more likely to have worse binding impurities than the beauty store, nothing is 100% pure after all, but even letting shot glasses sit and evaporate, I personally saw or felt no difference between a beauty store one and the jasco acetone from lowes. If I was anti acetone, I'd go the purest rubbing alcohol that I could find instead. Something fast evaporating, rather dehydrating, with low residue. After the drying/cleaning substance evaporates, a primer is next. Not only does it help prevent staining, but it also helps polish adhere, just as primer is for enamel paint. Next, 2 color coats, also trying to wipe across the weak point of polish at the edge of the nail tips. Then top coat, where not only do I cover the edge, but I will roll down to the underside. I usually do 2 top coats as well. If I am trying to get near a month out of it, I will paint a top coat every weekend.

If I want polish to chip in like a week, I just wash my hands and dry them with a paper towel, and skip the base coat if the color is not a staining risk (reds, blues, blacks are prone to staining) then slap some polish on and a top coat. Skipping the drying, base coat, and wrapping over the tip really reduces the longevity. Again though, certain polishes do perform better, so even with the same technique, one kind may only make it 2 weeks, where as another is 3 to 4. Of course, back when I could still wear gel polish, that was even longer, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't recommend regular use of gel.

Kink shaming from the former playgrounders privileged thread. So much for inclusion and acceptance. Thanks gurls but no thanks.

Thank you justa for keeping it real and normal, true beauty, true self and fucking beautiful nails on your hands and (gasp) feet!

Mehbe Lau will give them their safe space back again, smh.

During spring and summer I love colours, so I change a lot.
During fall and winter though I stick with deep red but mainly with black and white.

I'm not sure I understand what this is about.

This thread is not on the PG, and it's started by Meeks. I'm not sure what the PG has to do with this.

This is a thread about nail polish, nail art and such. Not a really a fetish thread.

There's nothing wrong with foot fetish, but this thread is not about that and pestering people for foot pics is not cool.
