The NEW UK Kink Thread

I have noticed very few American actors manage a passable brit accent, notable acceptions are Jonny Depp and Renee Zelwegger.
Most seem to go for the very outdated cockney accent (think Dick Van Dyke) no one actually speaks that way. I was brought up around London, and sadly the cockney accent is dead.

Good morning world....

Back to work for me today. Went for a run yesterday - took me an hour and a quarter - then went for a walk last night with daughter so my legs are whingeing at me this morning. Had a good sleep though :D

Both my computers are being replaced this morning which always means that something will go wrong, so I'm not approaching the day in a positive frame of mind. So expect some whining later on from this direction....

Hope everyone has a good day xx

Morning All,

Kids back to school and suddenly the house is quiet.
Back to leather cutting, I have a couple of markets coming up and want to do a few lovely things.

Really tired, even tho I slept well, my body is saying blah, you need more sleep. If I get a couple done, I may well listen to it :)

I have a massive craving for crispy creme. But as the nearest one is 15 miles away, it can remain a craving!

Lally, I really hope the IT curse stays away and that the new installations are spot on!

D xxx

What about James Marsters? aka Spike from "Buffy the vampire slayer" fame?

Well, okay, even if it doesn't sound too British, how about Anthony Head? There's one of "our" actors with a passably, somewhat good fake British accent!

Heath Ledger was another of "our" good actors with a passable good British accent in that movie "A Knight's Tale."

Actually I do a passably good cockney but I also do a better Basil Fawlty, but my days of acting died after my parents got tired of making home movies of me.

We have Krispy Kremes here, any relation? Why does this suddenly seem like the "what's cookin'..." thread?

Mornin' Lally, and everyone else.

Morning all

I know the feeling about wanting to just go back to bed. Looking at another busy day of getting stuff sorted today and then another early night as it's looking like London tomorrow and Thursday. Though not sure where yet... or why.

Hope the leather cutting goes well Daisy, and the PC switch over is going well Lally

'New' UK Kink Thread?

What happened to the old one? Is there a test you have to pass to prove you are kinky enough to join this thread?

Can't bring myself to go into work after a week off. I might need retraining at this rate.

How are you all coping with the return to work?

H

Lol Anthony Head IS a brit!
I actually know him lol! He's a brilliant singer, did a season as Frank n Furter in Rocky Horror where. I met him.

James Master's; not bad, quite a lot of slips with pronunciations

I'm yet to see any Heath ledger films so, as yet can't comment.

I love a Knight's Tale!!! Paul Bettany is brilliant in it :D And, Alan Tudyk's British accent is faultless - I was really surprised when I found out he was American.

And hi everyone :)

Word of (probably unnecessary) warning to the UK residents - I've just spent an hour of my life arguing with BT. I transferred my business lines from them two months ago and they, not surprisingly, had omitted to refund the advance rental charges.

If you are ever in this position, then stand your damn ground - they tried every trick in the book to reduce the figure I was due. I could give you a blow by blow account of the ruses they used but it's already bored me so why should you suffer. Suffice to say that they will rob you blind given half the chance, so be careful.

*takes deep relaxing breath*

He is?!? No, no, no. Just as the colonies were yours, we annexed Tony Head!! So there! He's American. :p
I'm actually quite familiar with his singing. He sang "Behind blue eyes" in one buffy ep, and the whole cast sang in the musical episode "Once more with feeling!" but that was just impromptu singing.

It could be Mr. Marsters' slips were because of those vampire toothies? (yeah, I'm reaching) (Yes, I want to take the "r" out of his name too. It doesn't flow as well with it left in)

um... psst! Heath is an aussie! :D ("was." dead now.:( )

Paul was superb, but he is, in almost any movie he's been in. Not sure if I've seen them all (A Knight's Tale, A Beautiful Mind, The DaVinci Code), but I personally don't like him since he wooed (the love of my life) Jennifer Connelly.

Alan isn't just an American, but a Texan to boot! Talk about working with a disadvantage!

Aussies are historically brit, of course they can get the accent ;)

Why is it, then, that Aussies get outraged when someone mistakes their mode of speech as Brit, and vice versa?

Perhaps the Aussies still bear a grudge for being deported two centuries ago, and we're jealous of their weather? :D

Happy St George's Day to anyone who follows that sort of thing.

Following the computer installation yesterday, I can receive but not send emails, can't access my quotation programme and the job entry software is also sulking. Hey ho......

To err is human. To fuck up completely requires technology. :)

I'm not saying it doesn't irk somewhat, ;)
One cannot choose family...actually most Aussies are lovely, most brits are. There are always a few asshats in every culture. but by having similar roots, the evolution is similar.

It is unlikely to happen.....

.....and, if it DID, it is even more unlikely that we'd be 'outraged'.

So are Americans.

OMG! Did I just speak blasphemy?!? :D

Oi! Not for nothing, but you lot are not exactly a unified front of a single accent within the same country.

What about the Italian, polish, irish, African, West Indian, dutch, Russian, Jewish migrants? To say nothing of the native Americans and Mexicans.

The US population comes from a far bigger melting pot than Australia. Elements of each language become omnipresent over time.

UK used to be 4 countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall, each with its own language. Invasions from the Norse and the French added in for good measure.

For a small island, Britain has always had a huge cultural diversity and our regional accents show that.
Me, I'm Saarf Londen, with a touch of Surrey.

Now now, no need to get your back up. I was ...well, I don't know exactly where I was going with it now, but I think I was trying to be funny.

I think my point, if I had one, was that America, in spite of it's greater cultural diversity, predominantly speaks English so therefore it could be put that Americans could be apt to speak a passably good British accent.

What you said is true though. We have a lot of cultures melted in, for instance, in new York, the heavy dutch immigration tended to give some NYer's their stereotypical fricative consonants.

Anthony Head also was amazing as the lead in the Repoman the musical were he plays a surgeon who reclaims transplants that haven't been paid for. Sick as it sounds but his performance is floorless and his costume is to die for. Would get you in any fetish club.
Sorry I'm new here

:D
Hey Shade. Nice to see a noob here :)
He is brilliant and doesn't get the major parts his talent deserves :(

LWulf ;) don't worry I'm pulling your chain a little.
I was under the impression that the majority of the population were from non English decent, but due to the fact that it was brit colony, people were pretty much forced to take up the language :(

Hope you all have a good day :)

Morning all :)

Cold and foggy here this morning, but hopefully it will brighten up later on.

Six weeks to go until my cancer charity run so I'm upping the training - went for a road run last night after work, and managed to get bitten by a dog within the first five minutes... It's got to the point where I can tell when a dog is going to have a go at me - when they see me running towards them, their ears prick up and a wicked gleam appears in their eye :D It's funny in a way - the owners shout frantically at them, and the dogs take absolutely no notice whatsoever!!

Om nom nom... tasty leg of jogger.

Greetings from Carnaby Street. Spending part of the day watching sparkies try not to blow themselves up. Second job then cancelled... alas, so is geekeey.

So tonight I shall be resting and flying spaceships round a fictional universe for fun and profit.

Thanks Daisy just trying to find my way around and get used to how the site works.
Lallyh try slowing down around dogs its that pesky inner wolf thing impossible to train out. They see something running and go all hunting mode normally their just playing had dog took ass out of some guys jeans coz he ran past them. Kind of embarrassing.
Woke up this morning by puppy wrestling the post.

Ouch Lally!! Was it a bad bite?
Carry a can of hair spray and if they attack a blast in the face works. Won't do any harm, but it's not pleasant.

How is the IT situation?

Mal, hope you got home safe :( boo re no geeking!! Err how do you get paid for game playing? If minecraft was a job, my daughter would be on a good salary!

Shade, you have found probably the friendliest thread on lit. Make yourself at home and feel free to ask questions. Bacon sarnies and large mugs of tea are compulsory in here! Xx

Site works pretty simply: Read, write, read some more, write some more, lather, rinse, repeat. :p

What Daisy said. I'm a native-born Yank in our upper Midwest, but hang here at least once a day that I'm not in hospital, just cuz the thread's denizens are such friendly, nice, talented and funny people.
