The NEW UK Kink Thread

Hi all, briefly passing through!! Well, this week went down the pan big time :( Still, I'm off next week, so that's something. Will catch up with you all as and when, but will be back the week after. Hopefully....

Morning all.

Back from shopping and now planning to enjoy my 2 last quiet days before I go back to work on Monday. See what disasters have befallen the prof in my absence.

Hope everyone has a good weekend planned and that Lally's carnival isn't too disruptive!

Ohhhh no....the funfair was in full swing, and volume all last night and today is as bad  Roll on tomorrow...

In other news, when I was having my nails done earlier, the girl who was next to me is a researcher from the BBC so we were chatting about the famous people she has worked with. Apparently Jack Whitehall is quiet and unassuming, and James Corden is a diva of nightmarish proportions :D

And after 2 weeks of semi-restful time off it's back to work. Ho Hum.

Hope everyone is well?

Morning all :)

Hope you don't find too many problems with the prof this morning, Mal *crosses fingers*....

Remember I was surprised that the funfair was allowed in the middle of a residential area? I found out from my neighbour that they had agreed to donate all the entrance fees to a local girl who is suffering from ME, which made more sense I suppose.

Busy week for me - final days of training before my run next Sunday. Hoping the weather stays dry but not too warm or windy :D

Hope everyone is doing well.

Brighton was lovely. Had a wonderful meal in a great vegetarian restaurant and had a dear waiter who wrote done the ingredients for the side dish I adored. I had not been there for over twenty years. It seemed more sedate, or maybe more of the uk has caught up?

Depends where in Brighton, the Lanes side is touristville and the Kemptown side is the gay side, much more fun and flamboyant :)
Lots of great places to eat there

Morning all - from a windswept and rainy northwest :(

What is it about the first week in June that the temperature plummets?? I remember going on holiday at this time up to Edinburgh for a week when son was 2 - it was so cold that he got windburn on his face.

Not really looking forward to going on another run in the teeth of a force nine gale..

Better weather today.
Found out yesterday I have a stall at the new London Alternative Market on Sunday, so I am getting busy making!

Morning all, hope everyone is ok.

Good news on the stall Daisy, hope it goes well!

Morning all - Friday seems to have come round quickly again....

Out tonight to see Jah Wobble - what a ridiculous name  but a great bass player. In fact, the club where we are going is a converted music shop, the same one that I bought my current and favourite bass from many years ago :D

Then it's an easy day tomorrow, getting ready for my charity run on Sunday. I'm hoping for cool but dry weather - yesterday's run in the heat wasn't as much fun.

Hope everyone else is ok :)

Today's work strangeness / Dilemma

Client has sent me a copy of one of his son's college assignments to do!?!

Morning all - Monday again....

Hope everyone had a good weekend?

Went to a gig on Friday night, took it easy on Saturday, then did my charity run yesterday. It was a bit too warm really, and it got tough on the uphill bits. When I got home, and checked my fundraising page, I'd got some more donations in, so I've managed to double the amount I raised last year :) And I ran the course a minute faster than last year :D

Watched Bradley Wiggins do his hour ride last night as well - he's a total one-off, isn't he?

Hi all, I'm back!!! Well, I was back from hols on Monday, but I'm still on site half the day, so I'm only just catching up. Did have a good week off though :)

Daisy, how did the market go?

Malich, hope all's well with you.

Lally, well done on the run. Haven't heard of Jah Wobble in years, didn't even know he was still out there!! Don't own a bass myself, but always found it a very satisfying instrument to play. I'll get around to buying one one of these days.

Elle, big hi to you too.

Welcome back SV and morning everyone else.

Sunny day here again but it's not due to last till the weekend when we could all actually enjoy it.

On an unrelated note, I don't understand why the GCSE and A Level examiners are playing silly beggars. I know that if you don't have kids who are taking exams, it probably passes unnoticed, but there have been so many instances this year of exams being set with questions on areas not covered by the syllabus. What is the point of that?

So far, it's happened in GCSE maths, apparently, A level Biology, and then yesterday it was A Level Chemistry which son is taking. He managed to figure most of it out, he thinks, but he said it completely stressed him out looking at a question on a subject he hadn't seen before. He has to get an A in this to get his university place. Now he's normally a laid back kind of kid, but on his way home after, he had to stop driving because he had a massive nosebleed :( He arrived back looking like he'd been in a fight - he's not had a bleed since he was about 7. I took his resting pulse and it was racing away, so God knows what his blood pressure's like.

Now, I understand that learning to deal with stressful situations is part of the maturing process, but I think it goes too far for kids these days. They are tested from age 7 and it's ridiculous pressure all round. A friend of mine is a primary school teacher, and her 11 year old son has done SATS exams this time. He wasn't sleeping in the weeks leading up to the tests, even though he was probably better equipped to do well than his class mates. Is that the best measure of the abilities of youngsters? I wonder..

Oh, I know that there has to be some fair, equal way of assessing one person's ability against another. Otherwise how would we know who has the capability to undertake the studies for medicine, for example?

But our education system is chopped and changed by successive government policies so that I don't feel that anyone knows how to approach it any more. When I was younger, the testing system had been in place for generations, for good or bad, but at least we all knew what to aim for.

Then it was felt that a couple of 3 hour exams, and the stress they cause, wasn't the best measure of someone's ability, and I can agree with that to a certain extent. So it was changed to assessing coursework and reduced exams......until they realised that parents/tutors were 'helping' with the coursework  So now it's being changed back again. My kids are only a few years apart in age, but she will be taking completely different tests than he did.

But I have always told him that the examiners won't try to trick anyone, and will just ask questions on subjects that he *should* have studied and revised for, that the intent is to give the student the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and ability. So if he had done the work properly, he should do well. It seems that I was wrong.

You're right though - he should be equipped to apply knowledge to an unexpected question, and he seems to have done the best he could, which is all anyone can ask for :)

Morning all, sounds like we're all having busy (if less exciting in my case) weeks! Hope everyone has a calmer weekend!

Morning all - Monday again....hope we all had a good weekend.

Car is in for repair - fuel injection problem - so I'm bracing myself for the bill

But...the sun's shining :D
