Oh I'm sorry I guess all those people that have put HPL as the top horror author of all time are wrong. Name one other author of horror fiction whose work is still influencing the genre today.

Okay enough of being a sarcastic jerk. Trust me I would love to see it your way it would mean my writing and scores are more successful than I feel they are. (I know you will diss me because a lot of my work is a series and I know your feeling on them." However as you will see in a minute I can pull off solo stories pretty well.

I took a break from my series and decided to go for a "formula" story. Mother/son. Now I did put a twist I indulged myself by throwing in a foot fetish. After that I said "self what do they want in a mother/son story."

The son secretly lusting for mom, the mother finding out putting him on the spot then taking charge, hardcore sex with things like "my mother's pussy" "As I watched my mom suck my cock" and some tender moments where the son says his mother is beautiful and they say they love each other.

Understand that normally my writing is very dark so this was not my style it was a carefully constructed story to see if i knew the audience. Here is the results.

Right that is my point "buzzwords" and key situations. Mother/son seems to lean towards a loving bond so have them say that to each other it is a hit.

I am sure as you say each category has its "formula" although I would say that it would not apply to BDSM. The stories have the dom/sub in commom but there are so many variations and the pyshological views of the subs are vastly different.

And I think the only formula in loving wives is to do the best you can to set yourself up for abuse.

Your problem I suspect was lack of data. Which was why I pointed out owlwhisper’s seminal work. I guess that you’re drawing your opinions from your own work. Unfortunately your “famous” INCEST story is one of these multi-chaptered, endless sagas.

What I couldn’t help but notice immediately on clicking open your story page was that the early chapters didn’t fare as well as later ones. Which is completely consistent with the norm. You lose the readers who hate the story after the first two chapters and the score rises on subsequent chapters.

This is not a “category” effect, instead it’s the old “chapter” effect. Its why people like darkboy, little ralphie, and the dumb Texan try to skirt the “no chaptered stories” rule in the special contests.

The other thing that must be noted is that the vote totals on your stories all very low by Incest category standards. The ones I was able to find seemed to only have 50 or 60 votes. These are simply far too small samples to use to extrapolate into truisms about the category. Quite frankly any INCEST story that doesn’t attract at least 500-600 votes is not very successful. In fact stories like yours that didn’t strike a chord with the Incest reader are more than likely to lead the author to believe the exact opposite of what is true.

So I don’t blame you for not knowing. Especially given the fact you're being also led astray by db and his alien cohorts from AHland. You'll learn...​

I am aware of why higher chapters do better than early ones. It makes perfect sense; you get to the "core" audience and they will always vote high. Meanwhile except for trolls all the people who don't like it move on.

As for my series itself I am well aware it is not popular (not by incest standards anyway.) But there is a very simple reason for that; it is not grope and go "sis looked hot so why not?"

There is a history and a plot line but more importantly the series is not straight incest. There is a lot of hardcore BDSM sex which turns many incest readers off. (How could he treat his sister that way!) There are also occult aspects as well as both characters having been seriously abused. It is dark gloomy and not for everyone.

On another note I took a break and did a Mother/son story last week that was more "acceptable" it got over three hundred votes (so much more than the series) and is a 4.79.

Many people who comment on my story say they have even forgotten it is about incest they are invested in the characters as lovers.

The reality with regard to VIEWS is as follows:

1) Every time a story is clicked open the stories VIEW count goes up by 5-10 views. The multiplier is applied randomly - not only by day of the week or time of the day but by category also (e.g. an Incest story may get 8 ‘views’ for every click open on Tuesday while a Romance one gets 6. The next day it might be just the opposite).

2)If the reader goes on to the second page the VIEW count goes up by one less than it went up for the first page. If the third page is opened the story gets 2 less VIEWS than the first page got ( i.e. a 7 page gay story that came out on May 13th would have got 5 VIEWS for page 1, 4 for page 2, 3 for page 3, 2 for page 4, 1 for page 5 and -1 for page 6 which equals 14 total VIEWS if every page was opened.

3) Stories whose titles start with this mark – “ – have their VIEWS doubled.

4) Stories that start with a numeric – i.e. 425 Literotica Street – get triple VIEWS. Recently the site has started to reject most stories that start like this.

5) There are ‘bonus’ VIEWS awarded according to a complicated formula. Generally speaking, ‘favorited’ authors benefit from these bonuses more than lesser lights.

So why are the VIEW totals inflated anyway? Well, quite frankly it’s because LITEROTICA conducted a psychological survey of submitting authors some years ago and found some perhaps not surprising results. Authors are very needy! But they are very, very fragile.

So they conducted a field test in 2001. They inflated the actual VIEWS of the stories of a randomly chosen one third of the authors 1000% while leaving the rest at the real totals.

Guess what happened? Pretty easy to guess actually. Those whose totals had been artificially inflated started submitting many more stories than the group whose totals hadn’t been inflated. Like five times as many!

The results were so dramatic that MANU stopped the test after only a few months and reprogrammed the LITEROTICA computers to inflate everyone’s VIEWS. WTF- MORE STORIES FOR THE SITE AND MORE HAPPY AUTHORS. It was a win – win deal.​
