Twenty Somethings

I've got some general HMTL knowledge to building webpages. I also got ahold of programs that I was hoping to learn how to use so that I can make even better webpages. My step-cuz gave me a few job opportunities to look into webpage-wise, so unfortunately I wasn't in the college long enough to get the materials I needed to learn how to use the programs. Maybe I'll find something on Ebay or Amazon.com that will help me out. That way I can improve my skills and try to make some money with it.

torrentspy has them all ;)
xhtml you can teach yourself in a week
php takes about a month to learn enough that you dont need to keep refering to books

as for the programs
only newbies and lazy people use them

dreamweaver has many many problem

Bleh, bored out of my fucking mind. I won't find out if I'll have a job until after the 1st of January.

bored? what is that? how does one does that? how does it happen?
bored means you've got nothing to do
no energy to try and find something to do
and can't think of anything else to do

its a perpetual state with me

ah. that. didn't have that in at least ten years. with the exception of when i am stuck in class... there is always lots to do. i guess boredom is more a decision...

its kinda linked to depression in a sense
and once you figure something out it becomes less interesting
kinda sucks

well i guess i don't have depression... and well there are things that don't get boring because they aren#t really to be figured out. lots of things you can work on for years, there is always more to learn...

heh
I'm really busy with school so I've never any energy to do anything else :(

but I've a few books I've been reading slowly
as for languages I can never find a way to learn one that isn't to easy or far to hard
I always hit that level where I can't learn anymore off the given materials :(

well if you are busy with school you shouldn't have time to get bored, hehe...

well yes, the materials can be a problem, but one has to vary them... usually i work with them to the point they help me, and then more or less just read books in the language in question, maybe post in internet forums, etc. or try to find people to practice with...

well the problem with school is that the work is boring
its either stuff we'ce done to death, stuff we're never going to use unless we're working for an international company that clears millions a year, thats about 1/2 of whats going on
the other 1/2 is pretty much brand new and confusing material
but the part that really eats up my energy is the writing of atleast 2 reports a week on complete and utter bullshit

and I'd love to read books in the language in question
but I'd need to learn the writen language first
and the one I've been trying to learn is Japanese
and theres over 2000 Kanji I'd have to learn first if I were to start reading books
:(

hm well yes, i can see that school work is boring, happens to me too. though there i would see a difference between doing something boring, and being bored. i.e. it still keeps me occupied, thus not bored, the problem is just that i end up procrastinating (thus even less bored as i do other things for procrastination, but i never get anything done)...

hm well yes of course you need a certain degree of knowledge to read, particularly in a language like japanese... i guess it depends a bit on where you are - for a popular language like japanese there are bound to be a lot and good materials, but of course you don't get them everywhere... if you live in a big city with big universities, then you should find lots of different materials. if one doesn't work well, you can try the next... problem is with some languages (like quechua, which is one of the ones i'd like to learn) it is almost impossible to find anything even in such a situation. even in peru, where it is spoken, i couldn't find all that much... but if you don#t know enough kanji to read difficult books, couldn't you try to find cartoons, children's books, magazines, etc.? that tends to help me with languages i learn...

kids books confuse me the way they're read
manga are funny that way
I live in Greater Vancouver so if I wanted to learn manderin I'd be better off
about 1/2 the population knows it
and I agree totaly on the procrastination bit I do that a bit to much for my own good

speaking Japanese isn't that bad for me especialy after going there but reading and writing I can never manage to keep up with
kinda sucks
some time this year though I'm ganna try again to start learning

well i guess it also depends on the book... i read a book for teenagers in czech recently and that went quite well - the language was simple, the story straight forward, but it was still interesting and not too silly... but even if in vancouver you have more mandarin speakers, i would suppose you can get resources on japanese... like, as i said, one of the places i usually try is university libraries, as at least around here they have a lot of learning material. i often go to the mediothek in our university were we get tapes, movies, language learning books, news papers etc. in hundreds of languages...

the libary at my school is huge and confusing
and the city libary is even bigger o.o

I can find resouces but I lack the energy to so
but I'm slowly getting my energy back so maybe in the near future I'll start again

I used to watch a bunch of Japanese media - mostly anime kinda dindled off because nothing new came out that caught my eye

Yeah, I guess he hit the nail squarely on the head when he told you what boredom is. I can't travel, because I'm supposed to be saving my money and my step-dad's going to kick me out when I turn 25. It's fucking bullshit! I can't find a stable job that pays enough to allow me to rent an apartment. I was having this discussion with my step-cuz and I was telling him that it is completely pointless to work 2 part time jobs that pay enough to rent an apartment because aside from sleep and showering, I'm not even going to be living at the apartment per se. I think I may have found a way to not get kicked out. If I can get into the college I am hoping to get into by this coming fall, I'll be living at the dorms for 2 semesters (a year) and only going to be home a couple weekends and maybe during the holidays. When summer starts, I can try and land a job to save up money and such for next semester, then go back again. I screwed up a couple of times with the last two colleges I went to, but this time I'm really sure about what I want to do and really want to focus on it.

I too would like to learn other languages too. I'm hoping to learn Mandarin or some other dialect of the Asian languages. I also want to learn Russian and German as well. I'm also thinking about trying to learn sign language again.

As far as books go, yeah I got like a whole bin full of them I need to actually read. I just never mustered up the energy to get the bin out, open it up, and sort through the books to pick out what to read first.

well i'd say big is what you want if you look for a library with lots of material...

but well... as i think i said before, bored is more a state of mind. one isn't bored because there is nothing to do, but because one lacks the resolve to do something. and in the best cases one gets over that. as i said, i am very rarely bored.
