No it wasn't MRSA. But damn, it looked bad!
The surgeon sent us to an Infectious Disease Specialist and they cultured things. Doc said he thought there was initially more than one type of infection at play - a staph or maybe strep B, with an underlying Pseudomonas bacteria.
He wound up going through three different rounds of antibiotics. The original round of Keflex took care of the strep or staph, but the leg swelling prevented the Pseudo from being killed. And the Rocephin infusion (2nd drug) wasn't the drug of choice for Pseudo, but once they started him on the Cipro (and put him on bed rest to stop the swelling) it was finally able to take care of it.
At any rate, his leg looks so much better. The wound is actually closing in spots. He's actually able to get around on it pretty well, even though he is still so easily winded.
