I caught from your book that you are (grew up?) bilingual. I regret that I didn't take learning Spanish more seriously when I did the school thing, but here we are. I could have done a stint in the Peace Corps in South America if I had even thought of it. There's a long story why, but it isn't all that relative.


Being into getting things built, I have worked with a lot of Latins and I limp along with what Spanish I have. We work similarly - get into it, get after it, and get it done. We all worked by the piece for years, and that's how we gave ourselves a raise. We got along. I was included in lunch and in the passing of the jar of jalapenos. Had a lot of good Spanglish chats, laughed included. Stuff like that I don't think the average American (much less the Lit Libturd) even notices, much less appreciates. I have written a letter of reference or three to help a family stay here and keep its papers in order.


I don't know the trans community, but what you say makes sense. I'm not sure what the answers might be, but attempts to be accepting and the passage of time should be helpful. The sentient among us are all trying to get along in this busy, noisy, and often quite confusing world. A helpful hand is always beneficial.


We do have a lot of growing (up) to do. A good start would be a realistic assessment of where we are right this second.
