Now that I've seen your corrected post, yes, it is a backhanded compliment. But it is still a compliment. I actually have that exact thought many times. And I do find myself thinking "wow, she's very pretty for her age." But I would never tell a woman that, because with the qualifier, it can almost seem like an insult.

Like with you, I think, "wow, she's so fun and funny and cute for someone so shy."

But like…if they want to actually sell it, shouldn’t it feature food combinations that actually taste good together? Any idiot can take two random, separate low-calorie foods and put them on a plate, but that doesn’t make it a good snack. They don’t work well together structurally either. Tortillas have about as much carbs as bread too, they’re just flattened to a higher density. Even grapes with cold cuts and sliced cheese like a mini charcuterie plate would have been better

Who knows what was going on in their head, but I usually err on the benefit of the doubt side and assume they had good intentions with a compliment. They were likely just trying to be descriptive or are awkward.

Personally, I would love that compliment! Books, glasses, and being smart are all things I love and value
