What is the Significant of subs on left side of a Dominate?

We, if right handed, as most of us are tend to carry objects we value in the left hand so that it can be protected with the right and not be in the way if sword play is needed. It stands to reason when one considers this that a submissive often the most treasured posession of a Dominant would be on the left side and more easily protected if needed. Especially if some silver tongued devil comes along and trys to run off with such a prize. This is it IMHO

The right side remains clear of obstructions to allow free use of the sword... *shrug* The predominance of right handedness again..

I don't mean to sound insulting, but my understanding is that it is comparitive to a dog heeling. Hunters bare arms to the right, so the dog keeps to the left as to not get in the way when Master draws his gun. The same applies to the Gorean mindset-- the slavegirl keeps to the left for not only her own safety, but so as to not have easy access to the weapons of her master.

I'm not sure if this matches the significance in the D/s dynamic you are speaking of, however. I have never heard of a submissive being told to heel.

I've totally got to agree with this explanation. Although I have yet to experiance sitting/kneeling/etc on either side of my Mistress, it sounds very logical to me, and that was my first thought.

Can't thank everyone enough for all the words of wisdom
it has been interesting to read what everyone has thought and done in their own ipersonally preferences...
as i stated before i had asked because of being told things different by different people and as i see now it is personal preference
