Watching her cleaning the living room to make room for the Christmas tree to be picked up later today... she pauses and holds up an unearthed fucking traffic cone of all things... "I have no idea why I took this. I think I was sober at the time. But, I have no idea now why I thought I needed it."

I found my daughter's Valedictorian speech from high school. I'll bet you've never heard one like it before.
"I have spent quit a bit of time thinking about what I want to say and what I must say this night. These two goals are quite different, and yet they intertwine. If I say only what I wish to say, I am doing all of you a disservice, while saying only what I must is something that I believe harms me and does not show the proper respect towards this duty I have been given. To leave out either of these components would be to render this speech incomplete.
First, I wish to be blunt. I am unable to name at least one fifth of those graduating tonight. I simply have not paid that much attention to my peers. Out of those I can name, there is an even smaller group that I truly respect. However, even most of those i don't respect, i do not dislike. They have been kind to me even if half the time they acted like idiots. Those that I have talked with have seemed like good people, even if I am unable to comprehend their behavior.
This school has shaped a great deal of what makes me unique. It is a source of good traits and bad ones. Though I am not sure I will truly miss this school, I know I will never forget it. I will always have some fond memories of my time here.
Now it is time to say goodbye. We are heading out into the real world. This is the start of a whole new adventure. It will not be easy. We will have to give it our all if we wish to succeed. There are some of you that I'm a bit worried about, but I hope that through some honest effort you will overcome anything which may come your way. About others, I have no doubts. I hope that everyone here manages to make themselves successful. Reality is a tough mistress. Now we must show that we can hold our own against her. Our future rests in our own hands. It is ours to squander or ours to seize.
To you all... May your skills multiply and your days be happy. Tonight is our night, Class of 2013 and I say to us all - CARPE NOCTEM!"

Today I was out with my Mom running errands, and she recently got a new car (GMC Terrain) that apparently automatically turns on the heated seats when the outside temp is below a certain threshold. I tried to ask her if they were on, but I couldn't think of the phrase "heated seats", so I said "Hey mom, are the hot-butt seats on?" Now that's what we call them
