What song is in your head?

Eagles

Pretty Maids All in a Row by the Eagles.
Got stuck in there when I posted some of the lyrics and it's on a loop in my head now.

(This probably actually belongs on the blurt thread, sorry for the text wall.)

So I just noticed something about one of my favourite bands, Sabaton.
(Their genre is "power metal" so it's not for everybody but I think this thing at least can be appreciated)

The premise behind their band is to shed light on lesser known battles/peoples/wars that aren't even glossed over in history books while pushing no political agenda nor attempting to glorify the actions and events portrayed in their songs. Which I think they've been quite consistent on.

Well, back when they first started gaining recognition in their early days around 2006, their songs were very boy-band-ish if you get what I mean. Sort of like a drunken karaoke but with original music and a noticeably macho aura to their music. They even performed a song about how they're supposedly the new masters of metal music back then. Here's a demonstration, this song is portraying how grandly the Russians swept through the Nazis in the last year of the war like an unstoppable spectre of death:

But over time, and I think it's probably to do with the historical research they have to do to factually write out their songs, their music has taken the occasional veering off the typical fast-paced oratory of warfare and a good chunk of their most recent songs, as well as the subtle implications in the lyrics of others, are devoted to exclamating that war is really bad and putting emotional tributes to the actual people behind stories that we just bat an analytic eye over when reading about without an in-depth consideration of their ordeals.
I have no doubt that when they began their band career they did have the intention of somewhat glorifying warfare. But the dialog has completely flipped in recent years.

Take their song about the 30 years war, the third most bloody conflict in European history behind WW1 and WW2 which killed tens of millions of people and 1.4% of the global population (For contrast, WW2 in its entirety killed just under 2%). And I had no idea it had even happened until I came across their song about it.

Or "The price of a mile", highlighting the Battle of Passchendaele in WW1 in which only 5 miles of land was gained over 3 months and 140,000 dead soldiers later. About 5cm for every deceased. And the song certainly makes no attempt to portray it in a light hearted manner.

And I knew that the Gallipoli campaign was bad but I didn't actually know just how much of a disgusting and nightmarish waste of young men it was till their song regarding it inspired me to actually go and see just how bad it was.

So yea?
Thanks Sabaton for maturing and bringing a respectful perspective to the table.

Lyrics :rose:

"Brand New"

I feel like new sunglasses, like a brand new pair of jeans
I feel like taking chances, I feel a lot like seventeen

I feel like windows rolled down, new city, streets and cabs
I feel like anything can happen, laughing,
You take me right back, when we were kids
Never thought I'd feel like this

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new
Brand new

I feel like a young John Cusack, like making big mistakes
I feel like for the first time in a long time I am not afraid
I feel like a kid, never thought it'd feel like this

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new

Time will always try to make us
You remind me what I used to know

Like when I close my eyes and don't even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don't even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It's the way that I feel when I'm with you, brand new

Brand new, yeah, yeah, yeah
And I feel brand new
I feel brand new
I feel brand new

Great song. This was in my brain radio the other day as well. Love the John Cusack line.

Daughter - "Get lucky"

Like the legend of the Phoenix,
All ends with beginnings.
What keeps the planets spinning,
The force from the beginning.

We've come too far
To give up who we are,
So let's raise the bar
And our cups to the stars.

She's up all night till the sun,
I'm up all night to get some.
She's up all night for good fun,
I'm up all night to get lucky.

Daft Punk does it best.

Primo Victoria, is an adapted English drinking song.
