What song is in your head?

Alice Cooper - Feed my Frankenstein

There is no way in hell he is not a PYL.

The song is about his libido, self dubbed "A psycho", and he's holding a crop throughout the whole thing. And how many other songs of his are about or involve lyrics pertinent to exotic bedroom practices?

And then there's this! Poison

Ummm....you do realise that Feed My Frankenstein was written by the Yorkshireman Mark Manning, under his guise of Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction?

I saw them many many times - they were a hoot live. Very dubious lyrics but funny with it. The drummer was Canadian - absolutely gorgeous, looked like Jesus :D. Went under the name of Slam Thunderhide, and the guitarist was Cobalt Stargazer. They were bearded tattooed bad boys waaaay before it was fashionable!

Planet Girl.....or if you really want to go sleazy...Backseat Education

Giuseppe Sammartini's Recorder concerto in F Major, Allegro assai. It's one of my favorite things in the world to play, well the whole concerto is, but especially allegro assai. So chirpy with just enough drama to make it more interesting and good spots to just wing it and garnish it a little. I only have good memories of playing it with some great people. :)

You play the recorder? And you play this song? That is fancy and fun! :)

Thank you soooo much for posting this! I enjoyed it very much, then leaped into the rabbit hole of other links. I honestly never realized there was so much recorder + chamber ensemble (or more) music out there. My playing has been limited to medieval/SCA-relevant pieces.

My skills are far below this wonderful musician. I literally sat here dumbfounded by his trills and runs, and glared at my fingers for being so much less nimble. I guess there's a reason guitar is my first (and still favorite) instrument. Now I need to see if there are any guitar/lute + recorder performances. :)

Oh, this piece (and the player) blew me away. It's comforting to know that all Vivaldi solos are equally brutal. :p

I think that's the first time anybody's ever referred to playing the recorder as fancy. :D

But yes, I play the recorder. Took lessons age 6-21 and have played in three baroque ochestras as well as in many smaller ensembles. Nowadays I don't play that much and haven't played in public since 2010. Well I played in my friend's wedding last weekend and it was also the first time J ever saw me play in front of an audience. I don't think it really counts as playing in public, though. :)

Yes, there really is lots of baroque music available. Lots of lute/recorder stuff too. I know, I've played it, but I've never checked to see what's on youtube. :)

I have sheetmusic to the Vivaldi 443 concerto. I mostly play the largo, though, that's easy. :p Here's a version of it that really blew me away. The quality is crappy, because it's a rehearsal recording, but the soloist is 16. 16!!! (Also I must say that the tempo is much too fast for the soloist in the allegro molto in the video you posted. I felt uncomfortable listening to it, it sounded like he was only barely managing it.)

I don't actually enjoy Vivaldi that much. It's so....etudical somehow, if that word makes any sense. The runs are often brutal, but they're also very repetitious and to me playing them gets a little boring. It's like scales. I find Italian baroque very brutal in general and usually the notation is so full that it leaves little room for improvisation. I'm a German and English gal all the way when it comes to baroque. Italian and French baroque, with the exception of Lully and that one Sammartini concerto, never quite do it for me for some reason.

Palestrina however is da man and maybe the greatest composer to ever walk the Earth.

I like the energy of Vivaldi, but I'm with you on English and German composers, at least for guitar/lute (with a dash of Spanish). Dowland, Batchelar and Johnson are three of my favorite Brits, and Handel is....<happy sigh>. I found this gem and now I want to find the sheet music!

I am so different in musical taste! I enjoy Italian and French baroque indeed, and while I agree about repititius phrasing I find symmetry and...a familiarity in it, an inevitability. This is not to say I dislike other, but that I enjoy the variance and fullness, I think they are telling and that is part of the reason I enjoy them. :)

I don't mind listening to it at all and even playing at times. But playing Vivaldi, for example gets old to me pretty fast. Although all baroque music is quite repetitious and relies much more heavily on cadence and scales than romance, for example, and there are sound reasons for that too. I think that's also why baroque musicians aren't usually that appreciated. At least here it's often said that the violinists who can't make it in a "regular" orchestra wash up in baroque ensembles, because it's more muscle memory and less music.

I also must admit that my preference for German baroque is in large part also due to my teachers' being German. That's what I've played the most. Telemann, Buxtehude, Schütz, gotta love them. Especially Schütz. :)

And I have to say that the repetition and inevitability (love it how well this word works in this context, never used it before, but it's so true) of baroque music in general is a big deal of what appeals to me in it. I also play Vivaldi to empty my head. So much of it relies on scales that once you get past the initial clumsiness it's actually quite easy to play.

Ahh, Dowland and Purcel are my favorite Brits. :)

(Sorry for the hijack everybody.)

I'm hurting, baby, I'm broken down
I need your loving, loving
I need it now
When I'm without you
I'm something weak
You got me begging, begging
I'm on my knees

I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away, ooh, baby,
'Cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta get one little taste

Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
I'm right here, 'cause I need
Little love, a little sympathy
Yeah, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?

My broken pieces
You pick them up
Don't leave me hanging, hanging
Come give me some
When I'm without ya
I'm so insecure
You are the one thing, one thing
I'm living for

I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away, ooh, baby,
'Cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta get one little taste

Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?

Make it alright

Your sugar! (sugar!)

Yeah
I want that red velvet
I want that sugar sweet
Don't let nobody touch it
Unless that somebody's me
I gotta be your man
There ain't no other way
'Cause girl you're hotter than a southern California day

I don't wanna play no games
You don't gotta be afraid
Don't give me all that shy shit
No make-up on
That's my

Sugar
Yes, please (please)
Won't you come and put it down on me (down on me)?
I'm right here (right here), 'cause I need ('cause I need)
Little love, a little sympathy
So, baby, (yeah) you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
