Why is the loving wives crowd so harsh

Quick question for the more experienced authors out there. I have 31 stories published; 3 in bdsm 1 in fetish and the rest are incest. I enjoy brother sister incest but on a dare wrote a mother son that probably because I wrote it as a thowaway became my highest voted story. The same person has dared me to do a "loving wives" story telling me it takes real balls to do one on this site. I have in the past seen some authors post that you pretty much have to be a masochist to write in this field and that the comments are pretty brutal and little red h's are pretty tough to come by. Just curious as to why that is? Is it because all the people reading them have been cheated on? I am just curious as I am debating it but honestly haven't read enough of them to even get a great plot idea in the meantime just wondering what exactly I am up against (as the its a $100 bet that I can't get a 4.5)

Those are the major ones. I can't even keep track of the minor ones.

In a lot of cases the comments are more fun than the story.

Some writers try to cover as many of the flash points as possible so they can piss off as many people as possible.

Now if Lit could just figure out a scoring system.

We actually like seeing the insecure gits ranting!a positive commenter complained that I should leave the negative comments alone, as he enjoyed reading them."

No, as you have correctly surmised, I didn't write and post my story to provide entertainment through the comments section.

I admit, however, that I find the whole thing rather amusing. "Comment Wars" was something I did not anticipate!

Anyway, I'm going to let the last of the negative comments up there, for the time being.

Personally, LW is one of my favorite catagories. Like many others, I enjoy a really 'hot' story, and then for amusement, read all the comments on the story.

I feel that most of the stories offend the religous beliefs or moral of some (but what the hell they are doing on this site anyway is beyond my comprehension). Still others believe that sex stories should be like their own sex life - monagamous, vanilla, and boring.

As far as getting a 4.5 rating in this catagory on a first attempt: I'd say kiss your money goodbye. Now a rating of 2.5 is easily within reach, as you will find the 'good' reader will offset the jerks.

But, if you want a few deaththreats, just throw in a DVP, shared creampie, bi male and incest.

I purposely tried to stir up the hornets with mine, but went too far. I made both characters weak and gave them shared blame for the marriage going to hell ( though only she was cheating ) Then I had her life go to hell with a revenge strike, but not by the husband's doing, and the epilogue gave hints that hubby was just making another mistake that was going to lead nowhere good.

Nobody seemed to know who to hate, or who to blame, and it ended up getting pretty good scores with a mixture of positive and half-hearted "you suck" comments from across the spectrum of the various camps *laugh*

Ranges up and down from the high 4.5s to the low 4.7s on a slow-moving roller coaster, as it has since the day it posted. It recently went up to around 4.65 again, and still registers at 4.61 on my public submissions page, though it's been bombed several times since that page last updated, as it's down to 4.59 on my private author page that updates in real time. Give it a couple of days of Hoovering, and it'll be back in the 4.6s again.

Of course, it's 6 Lit pages, too. Seems that even the LW camps can be scared off by a long single-submission story

Only the sadness bothers me

Y'know, I don't really tend to post negative feedback...

My only real problem with the LW category is the generally hurtful tone of a lot of the stories. I prefer my smut to be a little happier. I mean, yeah, tension is good, because stories more or less require conflict...but when the story just heads straight for divorce and regret, it totally ruins the hotness of the sex for me. I also have similar problems when it's all about one spouse resenting the other's sexual deficiencies or endowments.

If you really want to piss of the LW category- post a real Loving Wives story.

Someone a couple years ago posted a story called "More Than Rubies." It was a very sexy, sensual, romantic view of a wife and mother from her husband's perspective- from the time he woke up one morning until they retired to bed that night for a very erotic and satisfying lovemaking session.

It -might- have at one point been rated a .86 or 1.06 (can't remember exactly). It was actually really well-written, well-edited (went through three rounds of proofreaders and editing), and is actually a really great little snipet of a couple who is really in love.

They HATED it. Some of the comments were VILE, and some of the Anonymous feedback through email was worse- death threats, violent promises, screams of outrage.

The story is no longer up on Lit, and was only up for about 2 weeks total. It's in the vault for a later anthology.

I've posted both real loving wives, to the kill the bitch and/or bastard variety. (which I have also done). It's always fun and good to know that I encouraged readers to an emotional level of leaving a comment either positive or negative. I will say it's hard to get a 'H' and keep it, even though I do have a number of them.

The main thing is you have to understand that you will get negative comments and be able to handle it. I've been called every nasty word in the book and many wish I were dead, but I get that sometimes just posting on the A/H.

If you can handle the comments, by all means write what you like, even if it is loving wives. The best to you.

in this case, it's no wonder that stories in this category elicit such a strong response. There is nothing that strikes at the heart of a man more powerfully than a cheating wife. The betrayal of trust and defilement of purity in what was supposed to be a happily ever after story has always been a strong theme in tragedies. But this also conflicts with the desire a man has to demonstrate to others what a great catch he has. Men often like to show off their wives to make others envy them.

The two concepts are incompatible, which creates tension and hostility.

It all depends on your point of view. A loving wife can be one that loves you and only you. Or one that loves you so much she will do anything you ask her too.
