[Just a reminder that the prompt is listed on the first page and please copy it as is when adding to your post. It isn’t a huge deal, but there can be a difference between a song about young love and a song that reminds you of it. 🩵]

Day 8: A song that reminds you of young love

This is a cover, original by The Postal Service. I like the cover more for this one.
The lyrics here remind me so much of young love—the desire to be everything your partner wants and needs, to create a world that exists just for the two of you.

Handsome Ghost - Brand New Colony

Day 8: A song that reminds you of young love

This song reminds ME of young love. My first love was toxic, suspicious, selfish and other than the sex, not good at all. Sigh. I’m so glad I’m much less stupid now.

The Worst In You - Andy Shauf

Oh, why do I always seek the worst in you?
Do you always seek the worst in me?
Do I only seek the worst in you?

One thing I love about here is how many directions the prompt can take you. It makes me think it through. And there are many ways you can look at it-- looking back at young love now, how it felt, how you think it should have felt, wanting everything to be perfect, that first warm glow, romance, heartache --all of it. And wonderfully, I have seen all of that here so far in people's choices.

When I think of young love, I think of high school. I, as well, was not a cool kid. Yearning for something I was missing, mostly. Then, when it hit? It was loud, and chaotic, and wonderful, and heartrending, and epic in the way that only a high school love can really be. Blood, sweat, and tears for real. And it didn't flow in a straight line, meandering over years. Ah, young love...

"You're just the girl all the boys want to dance with/And I'm just the boy using too many chances."

This is my favorite Fall Out Boy song. There was another from the same post-punk pop genre, but it gets played a lot, and this one hasn't been yet. Great wordplay, huge chorus, monster hook -- all the things they do well. When they hit, they hit well. (When they miss, they update Billy Joel...) And lyrically, this hits perfectly:

"I don't blame you for being you, but you can't blame me for hating it."

"A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More 'Touch Me,'" Fall Out Boy

Several great choices for today but other than the meatloaf song already posted, this one most immediately came to mind:

I don't like much Bob Seger (I know, I know, I'm sorry!), and I don't like about 70% of this song, but that last verse...almost utterly perfect.

All too often you're just not the type that interests the object of your affection. This is what I think of when I remember young love. Even knowing the feelings were transient, they were no less intense, and being aware that life would move on, did not make it any less painful.

"There's another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert...We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded." Kate Winslet, The Holiday

That's a great point, esoecially concerning young love. I do enjoy Sam Cooke!
