๐ŸŽต Monthly Song Challenge ๐ŸŽต

Crazy they have a super deep discography, 10-12 albbums,
of songs that sound nothing like this. Mostly protest and anarchist punk, but some are straight folk and pop. I know a lot if their fans despise this song and view it as a major sellout. It happens.
I did actually know some of this about them, they refused to let this song be used in advertising which was pretty cool at the time. Still never dug into their catalog.

Yep. I have just barely scratched the surface. A lot of those mid-90s bands that folks think are โ€˜One hit wonders,โ€™ actually have great catalogues. Nada Surf, Eels and Superdrag come to mind. Even Cornershop.

Weโ€™ve discussed the Eels before a favorite. And I have listened to a few songs by Nada Surf!

Nada Surf might have as many good albums as anyone I can think of. None of their songs sound like their hit Popular. 2000s run of Let Go, Weight Is A Gift, and Lucky are all great. They have others but is where I would maybe start.

Day 9: A song that mentions stars

This one lives on the album with the song that everyone knows by Everclear, the one that launched them into the post grunge 90s consciousness.

The reference here is obviously not real stars, but gen-Xers and millennials get the reference. Like a lot of early Everclear, there's a lot of allusions to divorce and abuse, and you can hear the pain, but also the hope (I hope!)

Day 12: A song that is the only song you know by that artist

Ok, here's how it is. You're busy. I'm busy. Noname is busy. I don't bump into her at the store. She's not my neighbour. So that's my excuse as to why I only know this song and nothing else, but this song is so good.

Please enjoy this amazing rap/pop song which has a good bounce, flows effortlessly, is conscientious and funny and reminds you why charisma is important in a vocalist.

Day 12: A song that is the only song you know by that artist

I like this prompt because it is hard for me. I am old, so I still buy whole albums. That can be hit or miss, because for every The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess where I like all of the songs, you have a dozen where the band only had one good song in them. And between those, you get so great deep cuts, so I keep at it, but it means I usually know more than one song. Or if I find them on here, I will usually jump down the rabbit hole for any band that strikes my fancy. I could cheat (my own rules) by just finding a band I have never heard of, but that would be...cheating.

And then "whoooa!" and a song came to mind. I enjoyed what got labeled "the Manchester Sound" --live electric guitars with dance beats--of the early 90s. But I was far more into Jesus Jones, Stone Roses, and the like. But this song was ubiquitous for a year or so, and then became part of live sports soundtracks and lives on still. But I never liked it enough to go beyond that song, and now, 35 years later, it pays off!

"Unbelievable," EMF

Can you please include the prompt that youโ€™re responding to in your posts? They are listed on the first page. Youโ€™re posting several songs and I canโ€™t tell if they are for different prompts or the same one or what. Thanks!
ok sorry

They are pretty fascinating. Todd on the Shadows did a nice, short, deep dive into them. "Rage Against the Machine politics and a jock jam level hit." You might like it.
