Day 14: A ‘fuck you’ song

I feel like this is a 'fuck you' to unrealistic expectations society places on women. When I read this prompt about three of her songs popped into my head, but this one feels right today.

Did I disappoint you?
Did mommy make you sad?
Do I just remind you
Of every girl that made you mad?

Day 14: A ‘fuck you’ song

Cashing in a second song pass, because this prompt is too important in these trying times.

You oughtta scratch from the human race
You are the waste of a name
A waste of time and a waste of space
You’ve only one claim to fame:
I don’t like you.

Day 14: A ‘fuck you’ song

Fiona Apple: Get gone

Dammit again! I had something written up, but I went to bed before midnight here. Such a great song, a great feel to it musically and fantastic lyrics.

"Flip your shit past another lass's
Humble dwelling
You got your game, made your shot
And you got away with a lot
But I'm not turned on
So put away that meat you're selling."

Scathing cold. Great choice.

Day 14: A ‘fuck you’ song

Some "fuck yous" are softer, but no less heartfelt or important.

My daughter played softball in high school. She didn't really want to--she had avoided the coaches who wanted her on softball in Little League, choosing to play baseball as long as she could, regardless of the pressure she sometimes got. She didn't want to be around that many girls. But in the high school coach was wonderful, and the Kid joined the team. And for the first two years, things were fantastic. Even the long-time player parents remarked at how drama free it was. That ended her junior year. If you put thirty young, athletic, energetic, intense, and highly competitive teenage girls in a high-pressure situation and you get sparks. Oh god, there were sparks. Club team girls vs non-club team. Starters and backups. A player actively trying to steal another player's boyfriend. A vengeance nude pic. Everything. And I remember it all coming to a head one game. And then...something magical happened. Someone put on this song as a mid-game warm-up song between innings. And what started as a sing along erupted into the field, and two girls who were literally at each other's throats ten minutes earlier were dancing arm in arm as all of the girls were singing this at the top of their lungs as they danced. One of the player's sister leaned over and said, "there is a lot of trauma in that dugout." And she was right, but for a moment, it was a universal, shared trauma, and a perfect moment.

This is a young woman's fuck you anthem, and it was beautiful.

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," Taylor Swift

Day 14: A ‘fuck you’ song

This song is not my usual style, but what a fucking feminist rage anthem it is.

They get so offended when I say
Dead men don't rape
But where is their anger when I say
Women are
women are
women are dying

This is my body
My body is mine don't belong to the government
This is my body
It's mine to decide what the fuck I can do with it
This is my body
My right to decide is my right to my freedom

Delilah Bon - Dead Men Don’t Rape

Day 13: A song about wishing

while it's still hard for me to separate the man from the music, he had some amazing hits a long the way, especially before 2000...still rip

"I wish I didn't know now what I didn't then..."
This is what I sing for karaoke
