Day 19: A cover song by the opposite gender of the original

I've posted a while ago about Australian phenoms King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, the absolute maniacs who put out 7 albums of different genres in a single year. They're up to 26 albums now, in a decade. And it's all fucking fantastic.

I was literally squeeeeee'ing when I found this vid.
Ellie taking my favorite Gizzard song and turning it into this... masterpiece.

Wolf Alice - Sense

Great band!!

Day 19: A cover song by the opposite gender of the original

My go-to covers have all been my choices for other prompts in the past.

I already had two male covers of this on one of my playlists, time to add another.

I was wondering if they were covering the Natalie Imbruglia version or Ednaswap.

Day 19: A cover song by the opposite gender of the original (Take two)

I am using my Second Song Pass for this one to show how it can go the other direction. The Offspring's "Self-Esteem" is a light, self-abasing, self-pitying song about a guy allowing himself to be taken advantage of by his partner because he has esteem issues. But the pop-punk staple sounds much different in Mimi Page's ethereal triphop cover, and a great example of how changing the gender changes the meaning, feeling much darker, sadder, and trapped.

"Self Esteem," Mimi Page (originally performed by The Offspring)

Day 19: A cover song by the opposite gender of the original

It took me about .2 seconds to decide that I'd use this song for this prompt. Besides, I can't go a whole month without posting a Brandi Carlile clip here. @Trekka, if she's still pinging around, knows why. This is originally an Avett Brothers song, and in her way, she very much makes it her own.
