🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

I'm slowly making progress and getting stronger.
But today was not a good day at the gym. My ass is sore after Thursdays training and I tried to concentrate on upper body training today. But(t) the pain got through in almost all the exercises since I use free weights (dumbbells, kettlebells, barbell and so on).
So now I will do some easy yoga and stretch practice to see if I can ease off the pain. This evening will be filled with Old Mans Moan (Gubbstön in Swedish) for every move I have to make.

Are the community rec centers around you having membership sales? They are around me. I’m planning on getting one. They’re on sale during September. Take a look to see if they are offering deals around you.
Mine ran a summer promo, so I joined it and used the lap pool to train for the triathlon I did last month. I just wish they had better hours for the pool and I'd join yearly.

Ours is not, but the university rec center is advertising new memberships, especially for families. It's quite expensive to go there though, plus you have to pay for a parking pass since it's on university grounds. 😒

They have membership sales for students in September for new arrivals to the university.
But for us who are year members they have half price during the summer.

So here's a question: apart from sex, is there any other activity you do to give yourself a workout when you don't feel like hitting the gym? Or anything you do that gives you a workout without it feeling like one?

Asking because I played drums for the first time in ages this week, and I topped out at 180bpm(?!)

Any other workouts that don't feel like one? 🥁🥁

Yeah, like DancerBabe, doing yard work, or repairing the car can be a good a solid workout when the gym is just not going to happen.
Also I’ll do various calisthenics in the house to pull a quick workout.

Protein Questions:

Protein consumption is not something I typically worry about, but lately I've been upping my weight workouts. Muscle building seems to require a lot of protein. Far more than I consume. Based on what I've seen, 65-87 grams daily is my target.

No way I can eat that much meat. I do a protein drink, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for a 25gram or so hit without meat?

Also curious - how much variance is there in the range?

Based on body type and such. I am tallish, but very small boned. I firm up rather than bulk up. Do I really need that much protein?

Thank you!!!
I've been working out for years and diet was the biggest factor for any gains or losses.

At 20 grams a day it took me 8 months to see a big difference. At 40 grams a day, not a huge change either. Around 60-80 was good and could see something in 2-3 months. At 120 grams a day I was seeing substantial gains in 3 months. You don't need that much. It depends on what your timeline for results are.

To hit 120 grams I was doing about 2-4 protein scoops a day, but it was because I was travelling a lot and really busy at work.

Some suggestions would be:

- Breakfast burritos with 3 eggs + seasoning. You can pre-prep them and freeze them and they take 1 minute to thaw in the microwave. 18 grams of protein.

- Costco sells an instant protein pancake mix that gives you about 20 grams of protein. You can hand blend cottage cheese and it becomes smooth like whipped cream and use that as a topper with fruit, to give you another 10 grams of protein.

- Smoothies are my go-to: Kale, peanut butter, chia seeds, banana, ice, a little milk, and 2 scoops of protein. you hit about 50-60 grams off that.

- You said no meat, but perhaps fish? Pretty versatile and you can bake or fry fillets fast for 20 grams of protein.

I skipped roller derby last night due to a head cold. I feel much better today and just finished a nice, sweaty full body workout. It wasn't pretty blowing my nose in between sets but I'm feeling much better now. 😆 Now time to hydrate and rest. I'm looking forward to skating tomorrow.

Dancing is my favorite activity that works up a sweat and doesn't feel like working out. I think that's why I have enjoyed ballet barre and belly dancing over the years. They are both full-body workouts while having fun! I also love a good hike when I'm able to get outside.

Been a minute. Weights and an incline workout on the treadmill yesterday. The weather is semi-cool, so I’m headed out for a late jog in a minute. Life is kind of a jumble right now, so workouts have been kinda tossed on the back burner. Probably not the best thing to do, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

I worked legs yesterday with focus on ankles and calves to strengthen for derby. I'm itching to get back to the rink this week after missing both nights of practice last week from being sick. Today is cardio day.
After seeing your legs a few days ago, I can attest that your calves are in great shape! 🔥

I’m headed to a bike shop to check out possibly trading in my old bike for an upgrade. Idk if this is even a thing? Do they take trade-ins for bikes?? This is a nice bike, one that shifts itself as you pedal, and hasn’t been used too much, but it’s old and I’m hoping to get something that might make riding a little easier. (Yeah..it’s the bike…it isn’t me, uh huh 🙄😁).

The bike shops around me don't do trade-ins.

It likely depends on the shop. There are some in the city here that do and some that don't, it often depends on if they can ascertain that it is not hot (along with condition). It's the most difficult part of buying used bikes these days because the secondary market is full of stolen bikes. Either way, if one shop doesn't, call another one or two and see.

Otherwise, Marketplace/Kijiji/insert free selling place here is a place to sell if you do upgrade and want to move on from your current bike.

PS... It's definitely the bike!

I knew it!! 👍

Playing any sport you enjoy. You’re “playing” but afterwards are worn out and sore. Soccer, basketball, surfing, swimming at the beach, rollerblading, mountain biking, hiking, rucking.
I’ll go on a walk with my wife/family and throw on a backpack with some weight in it (start at 20lbs and you can increase weight over time) and just walk. Walking carrying weights is strength training and cardio at the same time. My buddy throws on his ruck sack with 30lb when he takes his dog for a walk. Sneaky way to get in a great workout. 💪🏻

This is not work out related but similar. There is nothing worse, and later in the week, nothing better than meal prepping work lunches. I dred this so much on Sunday nights but am so thankful later in the week.
Isn't that the truth! I need to be better about meal prepping because come mid week I hate myself for not doing it. 😆

What are some of your go to meals?

Same, I spend Sunday afternoon cooking and can largely relax the rest of the week because of it
