I’m not a fitness podcast person. I have several leadership podcast I listen to occasionally while working out but more often it’s music and occasionally an audio book.
You’ve piqued my interest..what leadership podcasts do you recommend?

2 of them are from Christian pastors. (No hating here please) Both of these are super practical and incredibly people focused.

Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast

Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast

Then I occasionally enjoy the 7 Minute Leadership podcast cause it’s quick but insightful.
And one I’m just starting to check out is Coaching for Leaders. It’s another short one but packed full of ideas and advice.

Then a couple other industry specific ones make their way in to my mix occasionally.

I don't listen to many fitness podcasts, but I do travel around to podcasts I wouldn't normally listen to if they are doing an interview with someone who I want to hear from and sometimes that's a fitness type person. Mostly for fitness things I read articles and/or watch YouTube videos from people I've come to like and think I can trust (like James Dunne).

In terms of podcasts, I like two in particular that fit the bill of the questions.

The Imperfects - Very awesome Australian podcast that talks to notable people, including fitness but also psychologists, about how we're all imperfect. It's about sharing struggles and how to work through them. It's awesome.

Running Rogue - From running trainers in Texas, it's about what you would guess, running. But it's from a great perspective of differing goals and they have some cool guests.

No hate :). I’m open to it and will check them out.

I enjoy the 7 minute leadership podcast as well.

Thanks 😊

Awesome suggestions. Thank you! I’m not a big podcast person but I am going to try to get into them more.

There’s one called “sold a story” which is my teacher nerdy side coming out. If you’re interested in the changes in elem education and what we need to do better as educators, that’s an eye opener.

🩷 Happy Friday, Sweaters! 🩷

Keeping with the VIP theme today…

Who are the VIPs in your life? Who are the people who prop you up when you are feeling overwhelmed? Who gives you great advice? Who can you be your most authentic self with? What is it about that person that makes them unique and special?

If you have a Litster who is a VIP to you, let them know. Send them a message. Or tag them here. It’s always nice to get a little pat on the back. Sometimes people don’t know what effect they have on you. What a nice thing to hear first thing on a Friday:)

Do you have a VIP who has helped you with your workout? A personal trainer? A partner? Someone you see at the gym? Tell us about them.

Hello!!

The VIPs in my life, that is an excellent question!
When I am overwhelmed, then I would really just like to be alone.. the best would be long walks, no responsibility, working out.. Drawing.. Just, not having to deal with anything.

Do not worry, after a short.. Or long, period where I am sorting out my head, I will be back, stronger and able to see things clearer 🥰

Generally, I am unreasonably lucky: for instance, my husband knows of Lit, he does not have an account here, but he knows the place. And... Sometimes he actually tells me to go here and talk with people!

Or, he makes sure my car is charged, so I can drive to the forest. 🍀🥰

Training wise, gosh.. there have been so many people influencing me.. And maybe at times I have influenced them!

Right now this place is absolutely the best! (Thank you @Love_Is_Blonde 💞)
This is one of those positive spaces, where everyone can come and get the support they/we need!

Today.. I am going to stay home! No gym, no lovely walks.. but drawing, drinking some tea and listening to music.
Although my body is itching to go the gym and work out hard. My tendon is aching in a bit too uncomfortable way.
So, trying... Tryyyyying to be responsible and not pushing through the discomfort.
I am going to take a rest day!! 🙈

@Cat i imagine you make every place you go special. You’re just one of those people who sprinkle fairy dust on everything they touch. Im so glad you’re here. I need to message you more! Lol

Oh and I want to see your drawings sometime :) I used to paint but it’s been years.

Thank you for always being such a bright light.

ETA: and thank you @Cat. I really appreciate the thoughtful compliment. 🩷

I have a couple of them. One is a friend of mine who got me back into biking. I'm not sure I'd be riding at all, let alone as much as I do if not for him. The buddy system certainly helped as well.

With running, less of a buddy system, but definitely someone who has helped me lay out a plan and cheer me on. Being cheered on is such a help, but with running my friend has been doing it in celebrating the little things that people don't often celebrate. And we should!

And if I have any VIP Friday advice, don't forget to be your own VIP, too. Often times we don't look back to see how far we've come or be proud of the things we've accomplished because it seems so miniscule compared to others... but it's not. We all go through some pretty big deals we just shrug off.

(This group has been pretty awesome, as well, I hope you all know that.)

I'm adding flutter kicks to my regular rotation, since I honestly don't like crunches or planks that much.

I'm also redoubling my efforts to see if I can hit, by the year's end, 100 unbroken 6-count burpees (I've done 100 before, many times, but it was 10 EMOM, and that's much, much easier), and to see if I can get my 10 consecutive pullups. I'm stalling around 5 max, but it's doable if I put my mind to it. Maybe not by Jan 1st, I don't really know, but I'll try. Any progress is good progress!

I have one really good friend that knows everything from A-Z and I know no matter what crazy idea I have, she’s down for an experience. She also has great advice and slaps me back into reality when I tend to make excuses for something or daydream too much. She’s literally my rock and I like to think I’m hers as well.

For a gym VIP, I work out with one of my friends who is actually my husbands best friend. I’ve slacked the last few weeks, though, not only with vacation but because work has just been so mentally draining recently. We have plans to meet at 530a on Monday and I’m actually looking forward to it…but ask me again when my alarm goes off at 5, haha.

As for the weekend, I’m hoping to get out to the lake and get some good walks in on the trails around here.

Wednesday:
LEG DAY! What is your leg routine like? Which exercises are easier for you and which are harder? Have you ever injured yourself and had to compensate your workout or daily activities in other ways?
So behind on this one, but my legs get running and biking treatment. I’ve never had skinny legs so I’ve never felt the need to supplement. I used to be a very frequent runner with flat feet but only real injury was IT Band and that was hell, but just took rest and stretching to heal

My podcasts are more history, comedy, science and sports related. I’m hopelessly behind on all of them but they are great distractions when walking/running

Swimming! Such a great way to exercise. You get your cardio. You get your resistance training. Do you swim? Where? When? Did you belong to a swim team? What’s your best stroke? (Insert breaststroke jokes here…)

Unfortunately where I live there aren’t many great swimming options. There is a lake about 20 minutes away but not the best for swimming and then there is the YMCA and community pool but never really gotten into that.
I do enjoy swimming quite a bit though and if I had my own pool, I’d be I. It regularly. Both to relax and play in but also to get some exercise in. There is something so refreshing about being in water!

I love to swim. I was on a bunch of swim teams and groups all through college. I swam for school and for a military base I lived near. My best stroke was freestyle. I was not a super fast swimmer but I could swim forever. I remember just being in the zone, tuning out everything except the water and the rhythm of my breathing. It was meditative.

I haven’t been swimming in a pool in a long time. When I am at the beach, I usually swim but this summer there were so many riptides; I didn’t get much swim time.

There are swim clubs at our local rec center. It’s just a group of people who want to swim for exercise. There aren’t competitions but there is a coach there to help you perfect your form.
I agree with you, @Lmizzler - water is soothing and relaxing. I need to get back into it.

The only swimming I do is up to the bar at an all inclusive.

I love the sound of the waves crashing into the beach though, it's a wonderful sound. I just prefer to be on dry land to enjoy that. Or maybe standing ankle deep if I'm feeling dangerous.

Up through last year I was doing an open water swim once it twice a week during the summer but that got tipped on its head thus summer. I’m considering trying to get my fitness back to Tri levels so may have to rejoin a gym to get back into the pool.
