i saw a piece on it yesterday, complete with some of the (rightly) angry residents of Ulvalde. can't see it today but here's a report attesting to the fact of his being sworn in.

Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo was sworn in as a city council member Tuesday night.

Ulvalde mayor said:

"Out of respect for the families who buried their children today, and who are planning to bury their children in the next few days, no ceremony was held," he said in a statement obtained by ABC News Austin affiliate KVUE.

Unfortunate wording given the 78 minutes it took for police to finally breach the classroom where children were being slaughtered.

not having his radios on him left him unaware that he was the officer 'in charge' and meant he didn't realise there were children in with the gunman (so he says) though why that wouldn't have been directly communicated to him when he wasn't responding to radio messages baffles me), despite several of them calling 911 pleading for their lives as cops stood outside afraid to enter. He says he 'assumed someone else was in command'.

he may be a good guy, with decent intentions and history; he may be right to think a bigger force should have been in charge of the situation rather than himself who leads just 4 other cops. But there are mistakes, a lack of transparency, and this in-your-face yet behind-your-back swearing in that's NEVER going to sit well with the relatives and loved ones suffering losses. He clearly wasn't up to the task at the time, and now is starting a new political career.

The speaker is obviously bitter over her party’s recent legislative failures, and no doubt depressed about her pending ouster from power this this fall. RG has no say in the matter, but at least one House member did take credit for the delay and explained why. AOC said she did it to retaliate against stalled gun legislation. “Hijinks” as she put it. Section 1507makes it a crime to protest at the homes of not only judges but also jurors and witnesses in federal cases.
