2008 News & Views: Discussion and Announcements for the Survivorphile

Erin, there have been, um, extenuating factors other than distance in the lack of sex, too. But this past week, he came up Tuesday night after work and was here till yesterday morning (his job has weird hours; Wednesday and Thursday are usually his "weekend" during the summer), so we managed to find a little time when my kiddos weren't around. Too bad I came down with strep throat... thank goodness he didn't catch it! Gotta love a man who helps me get my kids ready for school, drops the younger one at the sitters, and spends a day looking after me when I'm sick.

I've had such insane writer's block the past few weeks. I hope it goes away soon; I was posting a story a day for a while, and now I'm lucky if I manage a story a week. The ideas just aren't coming; if I could have an idea, I could write the story.

Thanks. It's funny that your husband still kept kissing you when you were sick; that's exactly what my man said to me, "I don't care if you're sick, I'm not going to stop kissing you."

Yeah, I'm excited about it, especially since it gave me a points boost where I haven't been able to write lately. lol.

Magica, I've been completely blocked lately, other than my story that went up today, which I apparently should have proofread more carefully.

.

Ah, gotcha. I had that when I was producing a ton, would stop for a break and not be able to get started again. Sor of burn out. A writing prompt can help. Like just pick a topic and see if you can think of something to write around it like...

Sex on a beach
A canoe trip into the mountains
A picnic on a warm summer's night
A strong woman who takes care of everyone but herself
A new bed

Good luck! :rose:

writing prompts

A writing prompt can help.

This writing prompt generator can be fun:

Cool Bits Story Generator

There is an art prompt generator too. My daughter have fun laughing at some of the prompts.

A common prompt beginning is:
Draw a person who is not a pirate....

And, I'm like- Damn! I was SO in the mood to draw a pirate!!!

-Sheila

Magica, ooh, the strong woman one has definite possibilities! The nighttime picnic one is a good idea, too.

I'm trying to avoid the trap of writing about the guy I'm seeing. I fell into that trap with my "What Was I Thinking" series, and now find myself unable to finish it. "Brown Eyes" is also based on someone I was seeing, though I started that series a good four or five months after that relationship ended. But there are bits and pieces about the way he and I met and things we've talked about doing that might spark a story without it being about him. (Like him nursing me through strep throat last week.)

Lady, thanks for the link; I'll check it out!

Bwahahahaha! :D I am one of those perverse types. Tell me I can't do something and I immediately want to do it. Thanks for the link to the generator. It sounds like fun!

I think that as writers we are always drawing on our experiences, but if you can manage to take just little bits you should be safe. I've only ever written single stories about someone from a past relationship but I've definitely fallen into the trap of starting a series and not being able to spit it out fast enough to retain my own enthusiasm for it. :rose:

Red - why thank you. For personal reasons I needed to take down my sexy pic. I like that castle. When I'm having a bad day I like to imagine I'm there.

Erin
You're welcome. It's a lovely castle. I love them.

When I'm having a bad day... my AV is a black box.

Good evening all.

Lady - thanks for the story idea link. Great idea for getting ideas.

Some of my stories are personal experiences and I find it hard to write those.

I also have tried writing stories that readers have suggested but it never works out.

Erin

Mine are not experiences so much as fantasies. What I meant about drawing on our experiences is that we put little things in that we've experienced in life. Like, when I picture an office in a story I'm writing, in order to describe it, it's always one I've been in somewhere. I'm not great at imagining places I've never been or seen in movies, etc.

I don't find that works well for me either. :rose:

Whenever I write a story that is true and from personal experience, I get hammered with comments that it could never happen. I never get those comments on my stories that are completely fictional. Go figure.

It's funny how someone will actually believe we have done some of the things we've written.... I mean I'm often running around with vampires and having my blood sucked, and of course I can't count the number of times I've been "taken" by strangers on a pool table and well... the stories of my sexual prowness would make a sailor blush. . . NOT!

Lady - thats funny that that happens. But readers can find fault with everything if they want.

Red - what? you don't go around having sex with random people? awww.

Seriously it seems to be guys who think that everything a woman writer writes is true.

Erin

Nah, not random they at least have to ask me if I'm a real redhead.

I've had ladies email me and ask if I've lived the "Dirty Daughter" story. *shakes head*

I've written many stories based on real life experiences. I've only changed bits and pieces so it makes the story easier to tell in written format.

After my latest foot fetish story posted, I got a nice email from a man who wanted to talk to me about my foot fetish. LOL

I take the assumptions that my fictional stories are true as compliments. They must have been fairly convincing.

Oh it's a compliment yes, but one wonders about folks when they think we've lived the lives of some of the folks.

I hope the scoreboard is updated soon. It's more fun when I can follow the changing scores.

It is more fun when they are updated, but you can keep track of the changes on your own. :D

BFW has 360 and Karen has 306 and Erin has 300. After that, there are about five of us competing for the last two cash prizes.
