2010 Team Poetry Contest

Tristesse confirmed via PM that she will be joining the ranks of Team 1 on Wednesday March 3rd. So if we don't hear from BronzeAge, I'll assume these are the teams, four on four. Tzara is still a sub, DrewBerry is out. Captain Charley and Captain EPMD may do whatever it is they want to do to prepare their team. Really, I'm not sure how much you can do to strategize since you won't find out the program until that Wednesday morning at about six or seven AM.

Think Bronze is in

I do think that BronzeAge is in since he joined our Team 1 War Room on FB. I know he has been reading this thread. Maybe I misunderstood his PM ... will go double-check it in a second.

Indeed, it's a bit impossible to make a strategy for a challenge we know little about at this point. Nevertheless, there are some preparations that can be made, imo. For example, you've already let us know that we should read and be familiar with the myth of Narcissus/Echo. In discussing the subject with the team, it's possible to familiarize ourselves with one another's knowledge and ideas before the challenge begins. This also gives us an opportunity to get comfortable with each other on a new level and this will make it easier to work with one another come the 3rd. :D

Alright, yes BronzeAge is in. Now we just need one more player confirmed on EPMD607's team to have five on five. If Tzara committed we'd have a serious battle, anyone else listening? EPMD currently has ChipButty, AnnaSwirls, EroticO vs. Charley's: Tristesse, Remec, UYS, BronzeAge. Are there any additional poets willing to participate in a pure team battle to the death?

This is after all the final countdown, next Wednesday is the beginning of the two day extravaganza:

Good lord, they have a war room?

We are doomed.

Where is my captain, oh captain, I need a pep talk. A nice shoulder rub would be nice. So TZARA where are you? You steppin' in to even up the numbers?

I'm working on it, check your PM box. We'll probably have to move this to Email because I'm not a fan of this PM thing now that I think about it.

lol - we have WAR ROOM! You have team awesome. :) We want to make this fair and I think I vouch for my whole team when I suggest that we can help you. TEAM? THINKING CAPS! Who can we invite to play for the opposite team? If only Tathagata were around.

Bflagsst ... you review new poetry. Can you think of anyone who wants to get involved in the poetry board, but might be too shy to do so? This would be a perfect opportunity.

Barring all of our efforts, we can pressure Tzara. With the right amount of pressure (I think he is especially sensitive in the nerve nearest his balls) we can convince him to participate. :D

Christ, you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be.

Bflag messaged me with a few prospects he's contacted on our behalf. Hopefully we can pull out a stunner, mesmerize your team with a SapphosSister or John Ashbery under the Literotica pseudonym: AssBerryGood69.

I hope you get your fifth. I can think of loads of poets, but the ones I think of are either too busy with life or too pompous that they couldn't be bothered to work with others. Have you asked Jthserra, yet? He's good, very good and I think he is open to working with others. :) If not, there is always MyEroticTale.

I'm here. I was in San Diego yesterday, and off the net.

I said I would be happy to fill-in a missing slot or substitute for anyone who can't make it (bflagsst called me a "sub," but I'd rather avoid self-identifying with that particular term around here--it might confuse someone) if I'm available. So far as I know right now, I should be available. But I'd rather give someone else a chance if they want to play.

I am diligently practising my awesomeness, though, just in case.

I'm formally asking you, as Team Awesome Chairman(TAC) to join our team so we can stop harassing literotican poets who rarely frequent the message boards. I'll send you a PM so you can get with our developing system.

Just to rehash what's already been said about contest. Each team will be responsible for two poems, definitely two poems. Each player will be responsible for an individual stanza in each poem. Theme is based on Narcissus and Echo of the Metamorphoses. Wednesday morning at about 6 or 7am EST I'll post a new thread with the detailed contest rules. You have a whole week to practice or do whatever it is you want to do. Maybe some team building exercises? Maybe have Remec fall back into the arms of UYS and Charley while Tristesse plays a waltz on the harmonium while reading Wallace Stevens...as I hear EPMD and crew are attending a trapeze seminar to get nimble as a team.

Have you seen the size of Remec??!! I'd be squished to pulp!

Ovid ...eek!
It makes a difference. The myth is somewhat differently related in other sources.

"Ovideek" sounds like something the late Billy Mays

might have hyped in an infomercial at oh dark three AM on American cable.

Which makes me curious. Do the Portuguese do infomercials, or is that plague uniquely American?

Actually, m'dear, I'm more like a BBC presenter reading off a teleprompter. I'm usually regurgitating Lewis Turco (author of The Book of Forms), when talking about form poetry.

And, in any case, there are the paired problems of (1) getting the form precisely correct and (2) writing something worthwhile within that form. I suspect Quizmaster bflagsst is more interested in (2) than (1), since that would make for a better poem.

But beware. I'm getting to be so awesome that I'm now tending to leave it here and there around the house. Not intentionally, of course, just incidentally as I walk around. My wife is starting to complain that I've left awesomeness on the kitchen counter, on the stairs down to the garage, even on the front porch. She's getting kind of pissed about wiping it all up, even though it is awesome. (It sure helps get those persistent stains out of grungy towels, though.)
