A Gallery: Delights & Splendors of Cascadia

cascadiabound, we've all seen a number of photos of Multnomah Falls...this one is by far my favorite! Truly inspires me to try and make better photos

The fog on the Horse Heaven Hills reminded me of one I took several years ago in Alaska. This is a cold winter day near the Port of Anchorage. The ice blocks are chunks left behind by the tide...the fog bank was really dense and compact.

This one is in the same general area on Cook Inlet a little earlier in the day. Looks like the Cosmic Wind might be on high ground for awhile...which is normal here.

But enough of the ice and snow ! Here's a reminder of summer sunshine near Haines AK.

Since we're in the Haines area.... this is a sunset at Chilkat-Haines. Now we're getting back down closer to the Inside Passage and BC Canada. True Cascadia at her best! If one rides the Alaska Ferry up to Haines, the trip on up to Alaska is one of the most inspiring road trips you can imagine. The road-trip up from Haines to Alaska goes through Yukon Territories Canada and the vistas are humongous...

Here's an example of the road trip from Haines AK into Canada. This particular shot was taken as the road descends into Haines which is at sea level. For a better sense of scale; if you look closely you can see the ribbon of road going down the hill. (I had to convert this one to monochrome in order to recapture some contrast...the original shot was in afternoon bright summer sun )

I saw a documentary some time back (probably on Netflix) about a team of spelunking scientists who went down into an ice cave on St. Helen's summit. They noted the heat inside the cave even after these many years. I've yet to go up to the pubic observation area and need to put that on my to-do list...thanks for the nice photo reminding me to do this !

I know we all appreciate how the winter reflects upon the area (untouched snow, glistening of the light)... but I'm hoping for much warmer pictures! Lots of sun! :)

CB, that is an amazing shot of the King Fisher ! I've been by Lake Chelan several times but never took the time to hang around and explore...your photos have bumped that trip up on my 'to-do list' ;) I just looked at my map and the size of the lake is quite intriguing and I can only image all the special secret places that are hidden there. My map also shows a ferry route, and that sounds like a 'need to do' also. Thanks again !

The ferry is "The Lady of the Lake"
Runs year round and is the only way to get to some of the communities up the lake. There are lots of places to do hiking. There have been some bad fires in the last few years, but, some areas are still untouched.

It has also become a premier area for wine in addition to the long standing apple and other fruit orchards. They are producing some fabulous wine. There are now 38 vineyards/ wineries in the Chelan area according to the Chelan Tourist webpage.
