Advice needed: How do you relax?

Q: what's the best way to rest and relax?

A: get addicted to Lit...then you wont have to ever worry about doing too much work around the house or at the office!

Ok seriously....when I really really need to relax, I make my little brother go away, I put on my meditation CD, and I "tune out" everything else around me except my breathing and the sound coming from the CD and then I meditate, similar in a fashion to what Sorta described in her earlier post, accept I really focus on breathing....in and out....slowly.

The other thing that relaxes me...seriously...is tanning. I go about once a week, if even that, but I think there is something about the warmth and the fake rays that really does relax me...whenever I leave the salon, I always feel incredibly relaxed but refreshed too.

To rest, well Im a big time napper and Im one who likes to sleep in. I also love curling up on the couch watching a movie or reading.

Hope you feel so much better soon Batch!!!!!!

oh my god...
you are funny......
damn..feels good to laugh....

when I read i relax
when I walked i relaxed

am going to take a bubble bath and listen to my Celtic music
Celtic music... mmmmm... kind of an oxymoron??

How 'bout some real soft blues, maybe some Etta James... pop the cork on a bottle of Merlot... some candles... a lovely woman in the tub adrift in a sea of bubbles...

What was the question again...

Focus
Focus
the question is pain and how to relax so as to allow the body to heal
heal
down boy

giggles

All seriousness aside....
I suffered a back injury years ago that required surgery, after which for a time teh only thing that killed the pain was 2 Motrin, one Parafon forte, one Valium, and 4 to 6 shots of Jack Daniels...

guaranteed, you'll be relaxed!
:D

Aw, you're right... music is subjective. *groveling*

You are talking to a man who has had an intimate relationship with intense pain for a great deal of the past 25 years... sex always helps take the mind off it...

It's my belief that you don't have to know someone very well to enjoy a good blow of the pipes... recreational sex can be incredible.

Love is another matter...

Just one mans belief...

I went to my chiropractor three days after the accident. They tried a massage the second visit..but ouch i was too tender....we are going to try again on Friday morning and they are liscenced massage therapists...
i used to live by the ocean...a long time ago...i like that idea ..i will search out ocean sounds...
that hitting the spasming muscle works...i push really hard into something solid and it goes away...

thank you for your ideas
Batch

You're welcome.
I hope you get better soon. Ames had one CD and they are going out of business so it was 20% off. Walmart might, but also nature or discovery stores or Shaper Image or the other one like sharper image should have them as they tend to have relaxation paraphenalia. You could also get one of those waterfall fountains that makes a nice sound.

Again good luck. Please get better soon.

Batch...

The 800mg IB will help reduce any swelling and can be taken more often than what is prescribed on the bottle...

The best relaxation for sore back muscles is hot shower sex :)

Works every time for me...

It's a bit of a long story, but what caused my pain was a series of injuries resulting in a ruptured disc which couldn't be helped by chiropractic or other less invasive procedures. I've found chiropractic and physical therapy to be all but useless for herniated disc injuries(which I've had repeated times over the years).

The pain at the time we're referring to was the result of the disc and another condition that I had simultaneously. The short answer is; you function because you have to.

The most recent injury is a herniated disc, sciatica resulting from that and scar tissue from the first injury and a blown out knee from a sports injury.

Advil, wine, steroids and knee surgery pretty much do it for this round.

interesting

and here is an even weirder twist to my tale
two years ago I had caught my left foot in a rug at work, was barefoot and carrying a baby at the times.as I fell I twisted and landed on my back..my foot was folded in half..
I waited almost 11 months......there had been a serious mis communication about worker' comp being able to pay for it......
so I limped about with a wrapped foot for such a long time..when I had the money for the doc......well he put me on bedrest and in a splint with crutches for three months.........
when i returned to work.with a cane......and worked till
february or March with the cane.building my strength back up I was almost ready to being going for walks again when this car accident occurred.....
that pisses me off.......
and I would have hunted the woman down and shot her if my left foot had been dammaged.........

fuck fuck fuck!!!!!!!!!!

Nope.
That was the beauty of living in The good ol' USA until recently. And I'm not referring only to that sorrowful day of September 11, 2001.
You could say what was on your mind withouth fear of retribution.
Everyone has their moments of frustration, you shouldn't have to hide your feelings about it.
And another thing... ;)
my post was meant to be facetious, I didn't think for a moment that you were serious.
Have a great day!

How do I relax? Poorly!!

The hot bath is a great idea - soothing music is a plus. Celtic music depresses me - something like DeBussy or some Mozart would be more up my alley, I think.

I guess they got you those muscle relaxer pills to relieve the cramping from muscle spasms. If they didn't, see if you can get a prescription. I take Flexoril - non narcotic - for my neck cramps when they start resulting in migraines, and it works. Will make you drowsy, though.

Some light stretching my also be in order. Start slowly - don't overdo.

Try to find something, like reading or movies, to occupy your mind so you don't get restless.

Hope this, and the others, helps you. Remember that this too shall pass - it is only temporary.

sought a second opinion,my hands are going numb on and off...now I have a combo of vicodone, flexeril and prednisone...two night sin a row I have been able to sleep....

and the doc wants an MRI done.finally someone listened to me.......
