Well, I wonder where my white privilege is? I am the son of a pipe-fitter and a customer service rep. I joined the US Army out of high school. I saw both genders and all races rise in the ranks, some faster than I. Now I do HVAC for a living. I own a car, a house, and the land it sits in. I have worked hard, and fought harder, for what I have. I work with other tradesmen, of all kinds of races. We get along just fine, because we are all just guys trying to make an honest living. That is America, and it is beautiful.

Where is that now? Where are successful black men and women telling black youth to stay in school and get good grades? Where are those rolemodels? Why are not these same people telling black youth to respect their parents, their elders, and women? I would really enjoy seeing a bipartisan PSA, with the Obamas, Dr Ben Carson, and various black professionals, and black military service members, telling black youth to stay in school, get good grades, avoid gangs and drugs, be good to each other, and work to make your community better.

Having spent considerable time in the military or being raised as a military brat does, I think, help give you equalizing perceptions. It seem you may have lost some of that subsequently, though.

I also don't disagree that much of the problem is the environment in which people are raised and the prevailing attitudes of their communities (seen both in the black environment and the poor white environment). Being raised to disrespect others, especially any authority figure, and just to grab what you want hassle whoever you please is an issue at work that I don't deny and see in a good many of these street encounters with the police that we see much too often. It becomes a circular problem when those from the "communities" don't realize that they are perpetuating and playing the problem themselves. Maybe national-level leaders in the communities doing more would help, but many I see are modeling well. (Some I see, though, are playing the situation for their own gain and plumage fluffing.)

I don't go too far with the "my people were brought here as slaves so you owe me" arguments. I've been to Sierra Leone and Liberia. I'd be happy that my ancestors made it here and have managed to get me to where I am rather than where I'd be otherwise. At least one branch of my ancestors got here on the back of an indentured servant, which, at the time, wasn't much of a step up from slavery. And I'm happy as hell that they managed a way of getting here.

That "tends" is going to trip you up and reveal your racism every time. Some blacks are brilliant and perform brilliantly given the upbringing, support, education, and opportunities of any other group of folks you can mention. That destroys any argument that the black race (which is getting as mixed in with other races as the Caucasian one is) is inherently deficient in any way--or even inherently tends in that direction.

Bell curve. There's always exceptions. 13% of the population, 50% of murders or something like that.

Average IQ's don't lie that much, altho you can argue all day about the methodology. At the end of the day, north asians score highest, whites second, hispanics 3rd and blacks at the bottom. All sorts of correlations exist between low IQ, a propensity to violence, etc etc etc. The only thing you can really say about this whole debate is that those who don't want to see the honest truth won't see it until it's too late. And in the end, as always when things go to far, it'll be violence that resolves the debate.

And white people have a real talent for organized violence. We're the best at pretty much everything, and those abilities will come to the fore once more if it gets to that. Can't say I want to see that, but if it happens, it'll happen.
