Aquired tastes

Excuse me.........???????? (remember June 4th/5th, 2005. I don't remember a hangover, just the usual difficulty waking up. ;) )

I only had about a glass and a half of Champagne (and it was GOOD Champagne).

the margaritas, on the other hand.....

Smoked eel. Very tasty, a bit on the spendy side, but not too bad. I've never seen it here in the States, but it's a delicacy in Holland.

Raw herring. Acquired taste. Very fishy tasting, but great with raw onions and a gherkin. I can only eat it in small quantities though. Think slippery sushi. Watch out for the little fish-bones.

And.... believe this or not.... French fries were an acquired taste for me. For the longest time the waxy buildup on the roof of my mouth disturbed me enough I wouldn't eat fries. Since fries are practically a staple in the Dutch diet, I got used to them. They're great with peanut sauce and mayonnaise. :D

Alcohol of every kind, except for the tropical fruity drinks with umbrellas that taste like candy. I still don't really have a taste for it. I probably would never drink any alcohol, except that I enjoy the buzz.

Asian food. I tried Chinese first, and hated it, and that put me off all of it - Japanese, Thai, what have you. I love Thai and Japanese now, and I can like Chinese if I'm selective with the menu.

Elk is fantastic, buffalo isn't much different from beef, alligator was ok.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I did try a little bit of kangaroo while on a winery tour in Australia, and kangaroo is yummy. I won't eat it again, though. :(

I like all of Carson's stuff. Surprise.

(Well - except the ketchup on grilled cheese.)

What about pickles and mustard (instead of ketchup, not in addition to.)

No, but I will eat grilled cheese with tomatoes if they are really good tomatoes. :)

oh, yesssssssss

Seriously? That's what I needed to say to get that response out of you? "Grilled cheese and tomatoes"?

I'll make a note of that. :D

I don't know, but say "biscuits, gravy, and tomatoes" and you'll get the same reaction out of me. :D

Especially with a smear of pesto

Mmm, that reminds me. I got this Italian mountain gorgonzola for Christmas ... it is simply insanely good. It's the sort of thing one almost cannot eat without giving little exclamations of happiness all of the way through. Powerfully strong stuff, but so extremely good.

What about "fried red tomatoes and bacon"? Old family favorite as a summer meal.

any kind of good tomatoes will get that reaction out of me - even fried green tomatoes (I LOVE them).

Blame my mom for this one: Ruffles potato chips dipped in cottage cheese. She likes sour cream and onion, but I'm a purist, I just like plain. This isn't really an acquired taste, as I've been eating it all my life, but quite a few people have acquired it from me.

Barbeque chips ON a ham sandwich (don't laugh til you've tried it).

There are a few people I've considered acquired tastes. Does that count?
