In all honesty, I'm pretty curious about all of them. I think my top three would be Kwanzaa, Diwali and Hanukah. And for me, the curiosity is more about individual stories. I can read on Wikipedia about each of them, but that doesn't really help me understand them as a part of the human experience. I would love to hear stories of family traditions that are deeply important to a person. I want to hear their stories. I want to laugh with them and even tear up a little as they reminisce about relatives and friends with whom they had important and memorable celebrations. That's what I'm curious about. And I've had some of these, so, I know how moving and important they can be. I'd also add Ramadan but it's not "this time of year" (I might be pushing it with Diwali).
Thanksgiving at my house here has been funny. Ever since I moved back to the PNW in 1998, we have celebrated Thanksgiving with my wife's family since mine is on the East Coast. Every year, I get sent to the store on that day to get something my wife or her mom forgot. I always take the sister-in-law's husband. When her Mom died in 2008, we started putting a bottle of vanilla on the table as a decoration to remember the Meatloaf story. Long story short, my wife cooked a meatloaf with vanilla in it when she was a teenager.
