Atlantic Hurricanes

Perhaps at Cape Canaveral, but the core has remained just offshore for the most part. The latest discussion suggests the eyewall may move over Charleston later today. :(

Excerpted from a news report:
...The storm made landfall southeast of McClellanville, about 35 miles northeast of Charleston...

Well Matthew definitely didn't curve out to sea like projected, now did he? The winds after the eye had passed were pretty intense.

So, are you betting on the european model or american model on this one?

The problem with morons is that they don't read stuff before replying.

That's one of the reasons I don't engage with them. They're frequently impervious to edification and often incapable of comprehending humour.

Category 6 ?

Actually, you're the moron, moron. There currently is no such thing as Category Six, your shitty website aside.

Irma is kinda scary, especially since we just had Harvey. I'd like a little more space between natural disasters.

The funny thing is that the national press is screaming at me, FLORIDA! FLORIDA! FLORIDA!

The local weather is telling me that it's going north into the Atlantic...

Looks like Sint Maarten/Saint Martin got nailed. There are webcam images that are almost incomprehensible. The roar is nearly deafening. I can't imagine listening to that for hours on end. It'd drive you mad.

The last time I sailed there, the island was in the process of recovering from a hurricane. Sand in Simpson lagoon was heaped as high as the first floor of condominiums and a full-blown tugboat was high and dry on the beach.

Anguilla is right next door and is also getting nailed. There isn't much elevation on Anguilla. I think the highest point on the whole damn island is only 200' above sea level.

There's a couple boats for sale in Tortola. Minor damage. Will prolly buff out.

(Photo was taken when Irma's eye was directly overhead. There's still more wind coming.)

Jesus H. Christ.

I was just looking at some video sent by a pal of the finger piers in Roadtown. The pier was largely empty and I assumed all the boats (and a whole lot of 'em are charter boats) that normally pack the waterfront were either in hurricane holes or on the hard.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Now I know where a lot of 'em are. I remember stories of charter boat "bombs" in the USVIs, the BVIs and the rest of the Caribees.

I'm sure the Simpson lagoon in Sint Maarten is chock full of wrecked boats.

Listen to your wife. She knows best and knows everything.

JUst got off the phone with my oldest son here in central Illinois warning him about Irma arriving when he does in south central Florida. . His wife scheduled a DisneyWorld full week's vacation beginning this Saturday thru next Saturday. Two deluxe rooms in one of the fancy Disney resorts with the monorail.
One room for her, our son, and their 3-yr old
One room for his older daughter, husband, 2-kids.
One room has enough space and beds for all four adults and three kids plus more.
Plus two buffet meals per day each in the resorts for six of the seven days.
They will drive from central Illinois.
Daughter and family will fly from Omaha both ways.
Son and his wife paying for everything on blue collar jobs because his wife says so.

Our youngest lives over 100 miles north of Orlando. Gas is already near $3, no water or much food in stores already. Two northbound lanes bumper to bumper traffic.
Heavy storms out of the west already filling roadside ditches, creeks, and holding ponds. This has nothing to do with hurricane possibly adding more rain.

Yet oldest son leaving early Thursday because his wife wants to have a nice Florida vacation! Are all English women this stuborn?
We offered to keep the 3-yr old to keep her safe!

I explained to him they can cancel because of the weather and DisneyWorld may not be there when they arrive.
Why risk your family when a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane is headed where you are and possibly another is right behind it?
