Heck, I didn't even remember where Longshot was until I reread the thread. I only remembered Ryota's location because his last post haunted me for being sorta crappy.

But we did talk about her possibly meeting up with my guy and his band of rebels somewhere during that time. As I recall from our PMs at the time (and from reading my guy, Kazuo's profile), they're secretly located within this city where a large amount of remaining Ozai/old regime supporters had secretly gathered following the war.

So that could be where the villains are located at the start of the time jump. At least until everyone starts running around trying to kill or screw each other again.

Yeah. Ryota and Xia were having breakfast...

(Which, I don't mind telling you, I always thought that post was lovely, so stop kicking yourself.)

But where did they end up a month later?

I'd like Xia to get to The Western Air Temple at some point, because that's where her last life perished in fire. Those dreams of upside-down pagodas, that'd blow her mind to see that in real life.

I don't know if she's done some minimal training with Aang, or more priority went to scouting...

It might maybe be interesting (maybe) to have Ryota gone off with the scouts and Xia sent off to train so she's less of a liability in combat? With the questions about their relationship... still kind of, well, erm, "up in the air?"

Which might set the stage for awkward reunions. (Not so much, "will they or won't they," but, erm, "We did it, and we're still not sure now what.")

And, yeah. Katara, I'm pretty sure, would be out with the scouts herself. As much as she wants to help Aang get patched up, she wants to kick Azula's ass more. Maybe Katara and Sokka and Ryota went out as a group, NPCing Sokka for now?

Iroh might be trying to help Aang with the aforementioned patching up? Maybe going on Spirit journeys with him to try and track down his missing Energy?

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to Ryota right now, so I wouldn't mind his being part of the scouting team, if we do go with that direction for some characters. Give them a chance to be apart from each other so they can both focus on more urgent matters and, along the way, perhaps think over where they stand and what they'd want whenever their paths cross again.

And I can't remember if I said anything to you at the time, but I think I'd mentioned wanting a chance to do a scene with him talking to Katara about his weird relationship with Xia. So there's that bonus.

Not sure what Ahren would want Aang to be doing during that time, but I could see him having done some training with Xia. Even if his own bending's out of whack, he still has a mastery on the art of Airbending and how to teach it better then anyone else living. And the Iroh suggestions also sound good and logical to me.

On another note, I hope nobody minds, but Unseen and I had talked about bringing in some Freedom Fighters to assist as temporary fill ins for the thinned ranks of Fire Nation guards after the first fight. The majority will likely be of the same importance as any other nameless guard in the background, except I'm thinking to use The Duke as my default guy to play off of with Longshot when Smellerbee and Ryota aren't around.

Gonna save that for later, for when she's more of a master.

For one thing, we've already got a bad-ass archer, and for another thing, an Airbending archer would be pretty, uh, "munchkin."

Still looking for a picture of what she looks like "now."

Yes, E, I remember us discussing the weird parallels... Waterbenders dating Airbenders and such. :: grins :: I would love to write that convo. Especially while "on the hunt."

We'll see what Ahren has to say about Aang, and I'll let that inform my notions about Xia's whereabouts, and Iroh's.

And I blame it on the fact that residents of the Water Tribes are like catnip for people from the other nations. Especially those from the Earth Kingdom, since you had Suki, Toph, Haru and Jet showing their respective interest in Sokka and Katara. Plus, the last Airbender had his own crush throughout most of the series.

Put those two birthrights into one person and it's little wonder why Xia finds Ryota so gosh darn irresistible.

Uh, "munchkin," adjective, or the verb, as in "to munchkin."

"Broken." "Overpowered."

"Drakkwall."

It's possible that Water, being the element of change, suggests metamorphosis to the other peoples. Earth is substance and Air is freedom, but either of these still could seek transformation, transmutation, into something better.

Since Xia, yeah, was raised amongst Earth and has inborn the spirit of Air, there's both explicit and implicit a great turmoil between these sides of her.

But Water is change. Maybe Xia wants to transform into something less diametrically opposed to itself. Maybe she sees the opportunity for that change in Ryota.

(Then again, he could just be catnip and hot shit and he totally rocked her world that one time. XD )

Ah, I figured, but wasn't certain. Too used to hanging around certain forums lately where everyone has their own respective lingo where words mean things you wouldn't expect them to mean. heh

But, yeah, I'd imagine Longshot may be feeling a little inadequate next to Xia once that happened. Of course, he could probably still beat her by a fair margin in pinpoint accuracy, especially for longer distances. That would help even them out in that area, I believe.

And I'd probably lean toward the last of those reasons for why Xia and Ryota have it for each other, but that's my ego stroking speaking for itself. *smirks*

I do love how much thought you put into this stuff, though. Seriously, you often bring up aspects of a show or story which I generally don't put as much thought toward, but which make sense if you think about it. I guess it's because my train of thought tends to focus more around the character motivation and growth then anything else.

That and the shipping. Always with the shipping.

I totally dig character growth. And motivation.

But I like the big-picture stuff, too. Theology, Creation myths, spirituality. If someone goes to the trouble of coming up with that stuff for a fandom, I wanna be in on that, I wanna know how it all fits together.

(F'rinstance, the Creation myths of both Narnia and Middle-Earth involve song.)

I dunno. I like scope. And being able to relate that scope to individuals. I dunno. I'm very strange. But you knew that.

Really, though, if it comes down to being true to the universe or true to the character, I think you should side with the character every time. The universe should provide insight, but it shouldn't override the viscera of a character's nature.

(As for shipping? Man, I shipped long before I knew they had a name for that stuff. I was pissed they cancelled "ExoSquad" before Nara could get together with Marsala. God, I'm so old.)

I'm not sure for a fact that I'm going to incorporate it.

But it really is a sweet picture.

And she's wearing blue, which would be kind of a nice nod to her boyfriend-type-person.
