The problem ISN'T that "recycling doesn't work". It's that no one has tried to figure out how to MAKE IT WORK other than through direct government involvement.

It's the lazy man's solution - blame others and then make a law against it.

So then pony up. States and municipalities have been tinkering with recycling programs for decades. I know you guys like supply side economics, but our supply far outpaces our ability to handle it.

And more and more places are saying no to our recycling.

We don't need tinkering. We need an overhaul. Unless you like getting caught changing a battery when your engine blows up.

True, but it's the govt.'s duty to take action against the ever increasing rate of childhood obesity (plastic -glitzy junk food and McDonald wrapped sodas- contributes to that) and environmental degradation.

But you're right, they shouldn't do it by attacking companies
Incentives and similar approaches are much more constructive.

Recycling works, it's just not economically feasible in the marketplaces where the most "waste product" is produced by the consumer. Solve that financial equation and you can establish a system whereby plastic waste is reduced until it's eliminated.

AFAIK, one thing that HASN'T been tried are tax incentives for businesses who recycle plastics AND for businesses which would use the recycled products to make new products.

But that's a lot harder to do than pointing the ban hammer at everyone and telling them to do what you want. Or else.

Again, change the financial equation by making it CHEAPER to manufacture plastic products from recycled materials and consumers will vote with their wallets in the dollar store.

In a similar line:
Michelle Obama had a brilliant, revolutionary idea: to make school cafeteria serve healthy food for kids. I suspect that it failed because she used the "let's barr" approach rather than incentives.

Aww you got all sensitive and jumped at me but can't take it when it's handed back to you.

You propose the least amount of action for something that needs a solution on a far grander scale. It is quite literally like pissing on a forest fire and expecting it to put out the fire. Consumer based solutions are pointless and ineffective with our current production level. And the market for recyclables is shrinking. Not growing.

The only thing you've suggested of any merit is working on the production side. However any effort to reign in industrial production of plastics has been fought tooth and nail - especially by the conservatives.

You've had your ass handed to you - again - so you do your usual. Wrap yourself up in your victimhood while trying to play catch up on the sarcasm game.

This is why I don't bother with you.
