Ben Carson: slaves were immigrants too

No, if you want to end racism, you stop being racist and dismantle the system that creates, enables and sustains racism.[/B

Which system is that.

Your world ain't gonna end because your privilege can't play pretend Mexican on Cinco de Mayo with sombreros and fake mustaches like you used to. Your cruise control through life is gonna be just fine, trust me. :)

Hehe.. i did usually see you as a smart poster, only in here, you are missing a major point. Guess you're black yourself.

It'll help you to know, i'm not american. and I do not divulge more than that.

And i'm gonna do fine thru life not to worry indeed. Worry about yourself.

Emphasize != perpetuate. Ignore = perpetuate.

Trust me when I tell you, with every neuron i my brain I do so: you're a rebel with a cause that exists only in your moronic head.

You sound like you make sense, but you don't. You've mastered the definition of a sophist. The french one.

Anti-racism exists elsewhere. And it didn't get this far by ignoring racism. Black History Month does not perpetuate racism in any conceivable sense.

The more you trace something, you more you emphasize it.

People aren't Spirographs, dude.

It'll help you to know, i'm not american. and I do not divulge more than that.

Well, this explains much that you can't see. I will duly lower whatever expectations I might've had forthwith.

And i'm gonna do fine thru life not to worry indeed. Worry about yourself.

Whatever gave you the idea that I was worried about you? :D

My point of view:

All American, except the Native, are immigrants. It startet with Colombo, further the Mayflower and so on.

Actually, it began BEFORE Columbus/Colombo:

Vikings, Irish monks, Welch, Portuguese and English cod fishermen. True history bears it out.

And Native Americans were, too, immigrants: My ancestors just happened to walk here.

Yes, so they are immigrants in the truest sense, but not slaves who dragged here in chains.

No shit!

Some nations, mostly in the south, welcomed openly escaped "immigrants," most notably the Lumbees of North Carolina, Seminoles and Miccosukees from Florida

That's why General Andrew Jackson conquered Spanish Florida, to put a stop to that.

Since slavery was legal at the time, it wasn't as bad as the illegal immigrants we get today. I think that's what Ben is getting at. Let's hear it for legal slavery!

No, I think Ben just skipped ahead to the notion that it eventually was beneficial to most all of us that we got here rather than stayed down through the generations where we left to get here. I think that's an arguable point. But the point he chose to identify when they were looking to reach a "better than where I left" promised land was just downright stupid.
