Where is everyone?
I know its been a bad winter that just keeps on going but ...
It's been way to quiet here folks.

I saw a lot of bikes out for their first rides today.
Great to get out for that first blast down the highway ut lets not forget about all that nasty salt and sand still piled high ob the corners and intersections.
Could be the menu for disaster is your not careful.

Don;t forget to wash and dry your prized bike when you get home... all that salt dust will settle where you don't want it. Like a sleeping monster it will awaken when you least expect or want it in the form of electrical problems and rust.

So take it out and play with it but make sure your careful and always clean it when your done...

Been a great winter here...

Been riding most weeks... hasn't been a week go by in December, January or February that there wasn't at least one or two days that the mercury moved into the fifties and the roads were clear enough to ride. We're all planning Sturgis this year already... got my reservations in at Glencoe and am going to try to hit Patriot Guard gathering in Ogden and Star Days in Billings on the way... make a big loop out of it. Did you go to Dayton or Mardi Gras, Wings?

Hey Dinny,
Didn't make it to dayton or LA but I will be going to Sturgis this year.
I'll be staying in Rapid City SD. I like my comfort at the end of a long ride.
Talking about riding to Yellowstone during the week as well. We might take a campsite at the Buffalo Chip just so we can join the fun and have a place to crash if we enjoy ourselves too much.

You just had to rub a little salt in these old bones talking about the warm riding weather. Oh well, Thats what I get for living up north.

I'll keep you posted so we can tip a few when were out there.

Been a while since I've been on here, so I decided to jump on and see how every one was doing.
Mrs Webbo finally got her full licence recently so we've been doing a lot of mileage together and with the boys on the back.

Glad to see someone is getting out on the bikes! It HAS been a long and cold/snowy winter! Looking to get some riding in this season as well. Sturgis is penciled in, with a drive thru during the week, and then on out west farther.

Um-mmm Sturgis

Heya Wings... let's talk about meeting up there as the date gets closer. We go out to Rapid City every time to the big trade shindig at RC Harley. Knightwing, as far as I know Jaded is posting over on a cooking string these days... I sent him an email back in November, but never got a reply.

As of right now, I'm leaving the week before Sturgis to hit the Patriot Guard Riders gathering in Ogden Utah... then turning around to do Star Days rally in Billings, MT, on to Sturgis and then to central WA to my step son's wedding reception. One long assed four weeks on the back of my bike.

Thats one nice ride you have going there. I still have to work and even though I get 6 weeks vacation they manage to limit how much you can take at once. I'll be heading out the first week and should get into Rapid City around Monday. That in itself will be an aggressive ride with little time to smell the roses on the way out.

I'll be looking forward to sharing a brew with you out there.

Sounds like a good ride to check everything out.

I rode to Laconia NH for bike week June 15th thru the 21st .
I love riding through the White Mountains.
We took a run down to the coast on Tuesday and had lunch overlooking the beach.
Had a sand sculpture contest and I was totally blown away with the work those artists do. Enjoyed some great seafood and a couple brews before heading back up to Laconia.

Another day we headed over to the Harley Roadtour for some Demo rides.
Rode a 2009 Harley Screaming Eagle CVO Ultra Glide.
What a ride with heated seats and handgrips. 110 CI Screaming Eagle engine with 6 speed trans. ABS , Anti dive, Brembo 6 piston calipers, Awesome stereo with a power amp! AND full navigation system. Now that would be a nice ride to take to Sturgis... But the $39, 000.00 price tag is a little too much for me to take.

The old 03 Heritage Springer ran just fine and never missed a beat so I'm happy. I did enjoy trying out the V-Rods and having some fun.

They don't let you ride those without an escort. They usually take a group out with a leader and tailgunner. I had been on the route already so I knew the lay of the road. When they got us on the back stretch the leader took off and let us have some fun. I grabbed a handful of throttle and just as the speedo was crossing 70 ( 40 MPH zone) a NH State trooper came over the hill. Too late to do anything but smile and pray I didn't see brakelights. We never did but we ended up seeing the same Trooper a little later that day.

Next I tried the CVO Fatboy and that was equally as nice in its own right.
This time as my buddy and I crested a hill on the same backstretch we see our Trooper friend try to turn around in front of us to catch a crotch rocket. When she backed her Crown Vic up she dropped right into the ditch! Spinning mud and stones that big old ride was not going anywhere. We stopped and both positioned ourselves on her tail to push. With only a couple rocking motions we got her out. She said thanks and "...I owe you one" Little did she know she already gave us a brake about an hour earlier.

Enjoyed the entertainment at the Broken Spoke with the bike buildoff. I liked Chico's the best.

We had plenty of rain but after riding for 39 years a little rain is nothing new.

Just back from Sturgis and is my wallet tired...

First of all my beloved Royal Star Venture died... after I'd taken it in to Colorado Powersports and told them it was making a weird noise (bearing) and had a strange vibration after it was hot. They did the 16K service ($511) and said the noise was nothing... 'it's the quietest bike we've seen'... by the time I got to Sturgis the damn thing was nearly shaking itself apart at 65 mph... so I rented an HD Road King for a day ($250) and left the bike with the Sturgis Yamaha dealer. Came back at four and he said I was facing a 'catastrophic' breakdown and advised me against riding it home... 'put it in a pick up' were his exact words.

I asked if it would make it 25 more miles, and he said 'yes'... took it to Black Hill Harley Davidson and used it as a partial trade on an '08 Electra Glide Classic from the company's rental fleet. So, I finally in a weird, wonderful roundabout way, got my dresser hog.

I just got back last night !
Total round trip mileage was 4809!
Fortunately for me my Heritage Springer never missed a beat.

Congrats on the new bike! They say every cloud has a silver lining so maybe it worked out the best for you.

Speaking of clouds we sure rode between a lot of them. All in all I can say we were very lucky. Friday we rode the Badlands and then followed rt 44 to 385 to end up in Deadwood. Sun shined all the way till we hit Deadwood and thats when the sky turned black. Found a parking spot by the VFW in Deadwood and just got inside before the skies opened up. Thats when someone yelled hail. The hail pounded the streets and all the bikes. I think parking under those large trees helped cause I didn't get a single dent. Riding back to Sturgis on 14 was a challange with all the fog in the valley. Had a nice dinner in One Eyed Jacks place on the strip.

The Full Throttle Saloon was quite the place. I cannot believe guys are dumb enough to beat the crap out of their bikes in the burn out pit. AND then blow out their tire! For what? Oh well at least the crowd gets a show.
The one band was so bad most of the crowd walked away when the guy started to do a burnout. Bet that band felt great over that.

I was to cheap to spend 65.00 to visit the Buffalo Chip so we enjoyed the Full Throttle and the Broken spoke.

Well enjoy that new bike ! I was up to Black Hills Harley on Wed so who knows.. we may have walked right past each other.

We probably passed each other the whole rally!

We stayed at Glencoe, and spent most of our time passing out beads at the tit parade every night. We were at the Full Throttle twice and down town at that Loud place, the Oasis and One Eyed Jacks for a good cigar. Because of the breakdown and subsequent purchase of the new bike, we didn't get as much riding in this year as we did before... and we left town just before the weather went to shit... though it dumped on me the night before on the way back from Rapid City and I slid into a ditch on the new hog... no damage except to my pride and a fist sized bruise on my thigh where the housing pounded into my leg on impact. Got my shopping and photos done early... but this year the damn town was like a fuckin' strip club compared to previous years. There were even kids out during the tit parade... that kind of put me off a little, but hey, if that's their parent's choice so be it.

Next year, more road time, less shop time.

I bet your right about passing each other all week.
I did get to enjoy a lot of good rides from devils tower to mount rushmore and crazyhourse. Deadwood and Sturgis . We were lucky with the weather to. There was one night we didn't do such a good job navigating though.
We left the Full Throttle and decided to take a shortcut home to Rapid City. Those little maps the Buffalo Chip gave out showed a road that was right off 34 so we headed for it. After a few miles we started to question it but it still looked like the right way so we decided to keep going. Sveral miles later it was clear something was wrong. Now the second mistake. Looking at this little "cartooon" map it looked easy to keep going straight and hitting 73 ( or 43 ) and then head south. We again decided to keep going on 34.
Well now we are very far out on 34 and decide to look for another road to head south to the interstate. Still no luck... So we check again and this time realize we do not have enough gas to turn around and make it back.
We ended up traveling so far east and then south to get to the interstate. Found an all night CC only gas station so we got lucky there. When we hit the I90 we saw a sigh, (Rapid City 71 Miles) Even though we only traveled to Sturgis from Rapid City that day we logged 297 miles for a round trip.
That was some shortcut!

To bad you hit that ditch! Good the only bruise was to your leg and not the bike... A bruise will heal...

I just got my new Condor Bike stand today and I love it. Holds the bike upright and so secure.

Sounds like an adventure...

I'm out on one right now... took the hog to CA across US 40, US 50 to Sacto. Sitting in my brothers living room right now. Hot, but ran into a lot of cool people on the way out, and am looking forward to doing the same on the way back... buying accessories for the Harley has turned into a full time occupation. Gas is nearly $3.40 a gallon out here so I'm biding my time waiting to head back on Sunday AM.

Sounds like your enjoying that hog...
Many many years ago I started out on a small Honda, That little bike was great to get me started and when I bragged to my dad about how great it ran and how maintenance free it was my day would only say. "Ride a hog someday and you might change your mind..."
I eventually sold the Honda for a Triumph 650 Bonnni... Wow what a bike that was. Having all that power and handling had me convinced this was the way to go. Well Dad took it for a ride and then told me it was a nice bike... I was convinced he would change his mind about that Harley now... Well he just said..." Yup its a nice bike, but you need to take a Harley for a ride someday"
Again I shrugged it off as an old man being set in his ways.
I rode a couple Truimphs the last one being a 74 Trident 750.
Then one day a friend asked if I wanted to ride his 74 SuperGlide. This bike couldn't out accelerate my Trident and it deffinately couldn't out handle in the turns, but there was something about it. That Lowend torque and the magnificent sound as you twisted the throttle. The old shovelhead motor leaked oil hear and there but I was hooked. What was it that got into my blood?
I went home and told my Dad I rode the SubperGlide and my Dad just smiled. He didn't say "I told you so" Matter of fact he didn't say much at all... He just smiled. I was the one doing all the talking and suddenly I realized he was just standing there with a big smile on his face. Yup... The old man was right again as usual... Wasn't long after that I bought my first Harley. A used 75 Sportster. bad year cause they mandated all bikes have the left side shifter that year.
Wasn't long before I picked up a 79 Low Rider and the rest is History.
When I test rode a Heritage Springer with the "B" engine I had to have it.
She is a very sweet ride and suits my style perfectly.
The bike ran flawlessly for the 4897 mile round trip out to Sturgis and back.
I tried out a screaming Eagle CVO Ultra and love the bike. Might be some time before I can afford one but someday ( 39000.00 as tested)

So I hope your enjoying that new HD ... Actually I know your enjoying it.
Once bitten by the Harley bug... its hard to change.

I'm working on a trip along rt 66 next year. Possibly shipping the bikes out to the west coast first so we can ride back home with enough time to smell the roses along the way. Hey,,, you never know when our paths may cross again my friend.

I'm always up for that ride... besides I was planning to do the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to Crescent City at some point next year... there's also a ride partly sponsorred by Flaming Gorge Harley in Rock Springs WY from Key West, FL to the Kenai Peninsula in AK... 7000 miles next year... they had it on their calendar page, but so far I haven't been able to get a response to my email about it, and now they've taken the announcement down... I've always wanted to do the ALCAN highway... carry lots of Off and mosquito netting!

I love my FLHTC... I've wanted an FLH since I was a kid. I've ridden a few Harleys in my time, but didn't like the vibration... I rented a Road Glide while my Venture was in the shop at Sturgis and it literally shook me so bad, I thought I should have my head examined for even thinking about riding one... I'm a disabled vet, and I have lots of moments of vertigo so it's very disconcerting to sit at a stoplight and feel like you're going to go over... but the Electraglide doesn't vibrate one tenth as much as that Road Glide did and it literally hugs the road, which is really good, because coming back from CA, I came out on I-80, and I swear as your climbing up to Donner Summit, that road hasn't been worked on since I worked at a ski lodge up there 35 years ago. The cracks in the concrete literally grab the front tire and throw you all over the lane. But, once I got out of the mountains, and back out on US 50, its a relaxing ride all the way till you hit I-15 where you head north to US-6 at Spanish Fork UT.

I was following the first snow storm, so I spent an extra day on the road when I hit Flaming Gorge Nat Rec Area in Utah... only spent five hours on the road that day fighting a 30 mph headwind... stopped in Rawlins for the night... woke up to a beautiful 60 degree morning that turned into a 30 degree morning by the time I hit Laramie... stopped and ate, waited for my fingers to regain some feeling and the temp to rise to 40... which I can handle... by the time I crossed the state line at 8000 ft on US 287 it was getting up into the 50s, and I made it home just before the next rain storm... lucky me... 15 days, 4000 miles on the Harley... and it was so comfortable seat wise, I didn't even carry my gel pad... I love my Harley!

Those Harley demo rides are great! Every event I go to that has Harley demo's set up I'll try a different one out just to see what its like.

I ride a Heritage with the "B" engine.
I can't figure out why they don't use this engine type across the model line.
The "B" engine uses counter rotating weights to balance the engine and does it work great! I sit at idle without all the shaking that the "rubber" mounts have.
I tried out a few touring models that "unnerved" me when pulling away from a stop and making a left turn at slow speed. The shaking of the engine was just to much to feel comfortable. My buddies who ride them just laugh and say you get used to it quickly. Well I take that with a grain of salt cause Harley redsigned the engine mounts for 2009 and added another link so the motor has four mounts instead of three. I rode a 2009 and 2010 Ultra and thay ride smooth minus all the old shake. I loved the screaming Eagle Ultra. Heated seat and handgrips sure were nice! Maybe I'm getting old but the toasty warm seat and handgrips sure made my ride a lot more enjoyable! Power locks for the tour pack was overkill but what the heck. Take one out someday and you'll see.
The rt 66 ride is just in the planning stages. I was trying to see what rallys or hog events were going on so I could plan a round trip with different destinations. The ride you mentioned sounds interesting.
Well keep intouch... I still think about how we must have walked past each other in Sturgis.

Did a little riding over the last month... two feet of snow on the ground now... bummer. While my bike was in the shop in Sturgis, I rented a Road Glide... talk about an unnerving vibration at a stoplight, that SOB scared the crap out of me. The Electraglide is a dream come true for me and I couldn't be happier... put 4000 miles on it since Aug 9 and not a one did I regret. I think I'm in love with my bike, man.
