That list makes me wonder, truly, about the correspondence between the poetic temperament and "high absorbers" as we say in tantric circles.

bj

High absorber?

--

Fun fact - I characterise the bottoms I have played with by energy. Some have good energy, some have bad, some just are. All have some sort of energy exchange. Good energy bottoms are those where the give and take leaves us both feeling up and charged afterwards. Bad energy bottoms are take and take, and leave me feeling wrecked at the end.

Good energy bottoms get return engagements.

The terms are related but not synonymous. A tantric "high absorber" has many of the characteristics on that list - very sensitive to energy and mood, easily shifted by environment and so on.

Often they are the opposite of the "brain-drain" bottoms you speak of. Energy "takers" are obviously not getting enough energy, so they have to try to drain you. High absorbers are the opposite; they have plenty just from everyday life, often too much to start with, so setting up an exchange loop with them is easier and more rewarding.

make sense?

I was thinking that the good energy bottoms I've known were frequently folks that I would describe as empathic and (over) sensitive. I mentiong the good/bad energy thing to make clear that I get a little crystal weenie myself.

The very best bottoms I've dealt with (ie the two that I kept  ) are very solidly in line with that list.

(And my emotional nudity post was on the bottom of the previous page, so less chance that people will read it. Whew.)

Did anyone ever see the episode of "Ghost Hunters" where the psychic reads Jay and the other investigator (I forget his name right now) is filming it with a thermal camera? That episode totally dispelled my lingering doubts that some people have psychic ability. The film captured images of energy that went from Jay over to the psychic during the reading. At one point, the psychic put his hand up and pushed the energy down..

That was truly amazing to see.

My mother grew up in a VERY old house. Her sister B used to see things. Sometimes those things were very clearly people that weren't there. My Aunt B is quite literally one of the most absolutely rational people I know, VERY cool and calculating. Yet she saw ghosts as a kid and teen, and may well still see them.

The best part? She once was taken to talk with an old neighbour woman that knew the previous inhabitants of that house through a couple of owners, and B described the people she'd seen in detail. The old neighbour identified those people from B's descriptions, and asked her questions that elicited more detailed info. "What colour were here eyes" was the sort of question, so they weren't leading questions. B was dead accurate.

Creepy.

The grimness isn't your fault, it's mine. I brought it up. I'm sorry. I had a feeling I was a thread killer and I won;t let that happen here.

and I was thinking the same thing, where IS cheffie? I could sure use some cheesecake right about now.

does anyone here have a recipe for an authentic new york cheescake with sour cream and ricotta and all that other good stuff?

Here ya go, sweets. This is a recipe for a typical New York style cheesecake. You know the dense, heavy kind. This is not a light desset, but boy is it yummy!

New York Style Cheesecake

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon unsalted butter , melted
3 tablespoons graham cracker crumbs
2 pounds cream cheese
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon lemon zest from 1 small lemon, minced
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sour cream

1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 500 degrees. Line bottom of 9-inch springform pan with foil, tuck foil underneath pan bottom, assemble pan, then pull foil around side of pan. Brush bottom and sides with butter. Sprinkle crumbs over bottom. Tilt pan in all directions to coat evenly with crumbs.

2. Meanwhile, beat cream cheese in bowl of electric mixer until smooth. Gradually add sugar and beat on medium speed until sugar dissolves, about 3 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until just incorporated and scraping down after each addition. (If you don't scrape down the bowl after each egg, cream cheese that sticks to the bowl will ultimately show up as lumps in the batter.) Add zest and vanilla and beat until just incorporated. Remove bowl from mixer; stir in cream and sour cream.

3. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake cheesecake at 500 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 200 degrees, leaving oven door ajar until oven temperature reduces. Bake until perimeter of cake is set, but center jiggles like jello when pan is tapped, about 1 hour longer. Remove springform pan and set on wire rack; cool to room temperature. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, at least 4 hours. (Can be refrigerated up to 4 days.)

My apple galette came out amazing. It's the hardest thing I've made so far. It looks just like this (well not anymore; it's half gone now).

Creepy.

Creepy indeed *grin*. Especially, I suspect, for your aunty herself, who was probably conditioned to Not Talk About that stuff with most people. The hardest thing about abilities like that is trying to handle them without enough support or validation. Feeling crazy, feeling like you're the only one who can do this, that sort of thing.

I saw that episode of ghosthunters. (it's my current tv addiction). I know some folks who can see that stuff without a thermal camera. The poor things. I do not envy them.

*scuse me. The voices in my rice krispies are calling me.
hello?
she did what?
o my. Kinky!

I thought the rule with rice cripsies and voices was that you're fine as long as you don't hear more than three voices.

*laughing*

It's pretty deafening in here. Guess I'm doomed.

like a funhouse designed by deSade some days.

well, or there's an alternative rule. And I've seriously used this with people. If the voices are kind, undemanding and helpful guides, fine. If they're mean, forceful and destructive, get yer chemicals checked. Like the girl that said that the mean Space Elf Fairies were insulting her from her radiator.

I hate to leave this fabulous party, but if I don't go now, I won't get any dinner. And the low blood sugar is making me punchy. Don't want to faint during my spanking.

Sara's in the 5/5! WOOOOOOT!

Just thought I would pass this on. This hit home (hard) with me since I was always labeled as "oversensitive" as if it was some horrible personality flaw. This list was as if they were listing elements of my personality and experiences. I was criticized over and over from many of these things, from an ex-bf telling me that I get into music way too much, recurrent major depression since I was a teen, to my aversion to conflicts and standing up for myself. It's just bizarre to see it spelled out like this.

Empathy Character Traits:

Feel emotions often and deeply

Keenly aware of other people's feelings

Easily hurt or upset by insults or unkind remarks

Avoids conflicts and confrontations

Cannot easily release sad or upset feelings

Feel deeply for others' suffering and pain

Prone to recurrent depression

Keenly aware of and affected by beauty (art, music, nature)

Feel overwhelm or depleted by too much stimuli (large crowds, loud noises, hectic environments)

Was sensitive as a child

I'm pretty sure I'm a member of this club. Damn, I feel for you...us.... all

and no, I'm not being funny.

smoochies

most of the ghosts/ spirits that I have encountered have been sad or especially kind or mischievous. or people and animals I know.

we once lived in an old house that had been moved from it's original location and hubby was off working, i would get really sad, felt abandoned and such, and one night, i saw this lady, more of an apparition, she seemed to beckon. well, i thought I was nuts. ( this is before it was confirmed) and bare;ly mentioned it.

well, one day, a lady, a former resident, came by the place to see if she had gotten any mail there and I asked her if there was anything I should know about the place. she was hesitant at first, then she says... "well, don't think I'm being crazy, but theres a ghost...or something...and there is music in the back room..tinny Victrola type music." she said her mother heard it before she died and she died in that room. I said, okay, thats all I needed to know. I didn't confess to her I had seen the ghost lady.

The back room was my girls' bedroom and they repeatedly told me they heard "old" music. I told them it must be a neighbors radio or something, basically I shrugged it off, until the woman told me that.

I thought the ghost was he woman's mother until I spoke with the owner of the place and he said no, he had heard about it, but he never saw the ghost, but a lady who lived there a long time ago, before the house was moved, had her children removed from the home, he didn't know why, but that seemed to explain to me why she always seemed so sad.

when we moved, I invited her to move with us, but she didn't and the people who live there now say they haven't seen her, so I wonder what happened? any ideas?

a funny thing though, when we moved, my daughter Kristen told me there was a ghost in her closet, a little boy named Billy Bob. I laughed and said, yeah, ok. She was serious and one day I was washing dishes, turned around to get the phone and a dish went flying off the counter. I told him, " Now, Billy Bob, I won't have that! You can stay, but don't be breaking my dishes."

It never happened again, but the girls told me that he played in their rooms all the time. I tend to believe them now, but I never did get the story behind the little boy.

I've been playing catch up on the haps in the bistro over the last few pages.
You beautiful poets never cease to amaze me. This is the most compassionate, insightful pack of deviants I've ever had the pleasure to belong to. Any well rounded human being has layers, but I love that people are never afraid to peel back those layers here.

This really is a gorgeous place inhabited by so many gorgeous souls. You are all so much more amazing than you realize. Even when I am not posting, but silently absorbing, I appreciate this community we have here.

Homburg, a little emotional nudity from time to time ain't so bad. We all feel the need to strip...sometimes the weight of your own skin can drag you down if you don't shed it.

And NJ, (because I too am an emoticon slut) for all your compassion for others
(must be that southern hospitality, no?):rose::kiss::heart::cattail::):nana::catgrin:

Lady S, we don't know each other, but I read your poetry. Cool to have you aboard. What a head on those shoulders.

Ange, you are fabulous for too many reasons to mention, but you already know this

Bj and Homburg, you guys make the learning process so much fun, and way more perverse than any classroom ought to be. I'd have payed more attention in school if I'd had teachers like you.

UYS you have a heart as big as all outdoors. You're a beautiful person. Don't be convinced otherwise, EVER. :rose:

Loststar, we don't interact much, but this is just my take. You're like the bistro's resident kinky Tinkerbell. You flit about the bistro, waving your magic wand, magically leaving smiles wherever you land. :)

And Cheffie (wherever you are) you've always got wise words that manage to reach ears that need it most.

Just a handful of the gems in this diamond mine.
Damn y'all.....I've gone all sentimental and shit. This too shall pass.
Maybe I can squeeze some poetry out of all this sap.

In Pennsylvania, it is required by law that owners selling a property disclose if there is a ghost occupying the property.

just a little tidbit. I used to be a licensed Realtor here in PA, and we learned that in our introductory classes.
