as the start of a rap song i.e. I'm not good at rap, so maybe DD could finish it, sorry for any confusion on that

best two line autobio, i.e. seein me, as someone else might, be an interesting challenge - the two line negative portrayal of yourself as if a fun house mirror, or as someone else might

Sometimes it's all incomprehensible,
what I think fluff and others sensible.
I'll always be grateful, 12 Oh,
for a ducks wing and a toasty fire.

Now think, the really good movies always have subtitles, one because it's a language you don't understand and two because you divert the audience by asking them to do two things at once, now think how much cooler would the last three Star Wars movies be (or now the first three, oh what the fuck) if it was all subtitled by Jar Jar Binks. Not only would it be offensive as hell, it would be funnier than shit.
Adds a whole 'nother dimension. Poetry should be like that.

That's enough of my wisdom for now, I'm off to make myself miserable, by writing.

uh, yeah, i'm full of it . . . oh, you said "witty". my bad. ;)

Seriously, I want to thank you, and harry for his poem. I was in a deep 9/11 funk.
You and Harry snapped me out.

I should thank Senna for his math equation

which is what our response was, a crack head cowboy response, for the greater glory of dod contractors to play wack a mole with bin laden. Of the 19 assholes on the plane not one was an Iraqi, not one was an Afghani. But they suffered a lot of "collateral" damage. And the troops...it is heartbreaking, sometimes I wish that I believed in a god, so at least I could pray. But god was invoked on all sides.

The voting system on this site is flawed folks - suck it up, buttercup! Why concern your self with Hs and Es, they don't mean a thing - if you want an aitch just round up your buddies, that's all it takes.

Long ago I stopped taking notice of voting numbers, it's a futile endevour. Over the years we've had countless complaints and nothing changes. Turn OFF your vote option and get a good nights sleep.
Amen sistah! I haven't really allowed voting for some time. I was swishing around the idea of trying survivor so I did turn votes on for a couple of poems a while back. They're back to comments only now. I find I always was looking at the score first and obsessing over why that rating rather than enjoying the feedback I was getting elsewhere. :)

Besides, when have the Lit-wide contests ever had a timely winner announcement? It's been so long I can't remember. This place would be better without them, I think. But then how do you reward the truly good pieces, then?

Anyway. Have wonderous days everyone.

Amen, I always thought you two were sisters...
Well any way, on to the whatever I do (which maybe more than you think)
Comments, if you are new it is important that you leave them, it is important that you read them, it is important that you don't get too pissed off, when I come along and tell you that you are not as good as your friends tell you, because I do that to everyone. Why should you listen to me, because I am better than you, you are new and if are new, everybody is, so I'm nothing special. How much should you listen? Not much. Just a little. A little at a time.
Just a little and soon you find that not everybody is better than you, congrats, you just moved up the ladder. Who put this "ladder" there, you did. Keep climbing.
You will reach a landing, at that landing you will run into people that claim that now there is only one ladder. It's bullshit. At that landing there are "betters" (not to be confused with butters, although she is) because everybody is better at something, but nobody is better at everything.
Comments nobody is right all the time, because there are many ladders. Recently, I recommended and commented on a poem by greenmountaineer and pointed out one thing, now greenmountaineer is my better because he can do somethings better than I can, he probably knows I am better than him in other respects. He changed his poem, not the way I would have, but he made it better his way. That is respect, for the intent of the comment and the poem.
That heartens me.
Comments I see several newer poets making comments, your comments may be wrong, you will learn the wrongness of your comments soon enough, but nobody here or anywhere is always right. Newer poets making comments heartens me.
"Poets" making "poems" doesn't. Although here, there is some good stuff, there are some things I've never seen before. Maybe the stuff I saw wasn't really there, that is how creative I can be. Or psychotic. Keep that in mind, if you get pissed at something I said, but generally a little respect goes along way.

BTW

maybe the "stuff" I saw was referring to talent, so be careful there. I was joking about psychotic, but you have to be some kind of nuts to write poetry and I question really why do I go over to new poems, when I could other shit, like watching TV or keeping up with current events. I think I just answered my own question, either this repeat or that. This pisses me off less.

after reading this all i can think of (well, all i'm gonna admit to) are the staircases in hogwarts - minds of their own sometimes, always moving about, switching and changing. i have dreams where the staircases mix themselves up. it's confusing, but a good workout with all that snakes and laddering.

I will be happy to tell you what I think of some of the commentors, particularity the first two, but I refrain, as off today, I do not have 5,000 posts, so let's assume for every 2 posts, 1 comment, not I can't say for sure how many posts were for praiseworthy in the fact that yes I took the time and yes it was praise for someone else's work.

Oh, you produce poetry, thereforth, that entitles you to...Even worse, maybe, for the sake of argument let's say I wrote 100. That gives me 25 to 1. 25 comments for every poem.

And I catch it from all sides, and generally speaking I stay out of your hermetically sealed threads. So anybody want to call me names, take issue; right here or in general bullshit, because 1. that is what it is and 2. the title of this thread will be probably how I feel about it. Otherwise, there is my goddamn respect, where is yours?

fuckin goddamn poetry responders
I'll let that sink in a bit...
what was it Senna said, or was it me, too many writers not enough readers.
Hello, now I am informed that reading is ego, I always knew it was thankless.

There is one goddamn thread the has a quasi legalistic reason for the comment subdivision, that would be in case the said poem is submitted elsewhere for publication. However, Mr. Carrington seemed to do OK with posting his material first in New Poems as did various others.
