Some things have changed, but having a solid work ethic, a good mind, and reliability are all still highly valued. These traits will all help you.

Then, go research those companies online and find out everything you can. When you eventually get the interview, you should be able to tell them everything about their company and why you are a good fit.

Let potential employers know that you are open to getting new skills by attending classes or training.

Finally, don't look at your 'stay at home career' as a liability. Show pride in what you've accomplished. Don't get discouraged if the first few contacts don't pan out.

I did a lot of work in customer service when I was younger and I am comfortable selling my strengths to a potential employer. Must admit that I am (rather selfishly) worried about not being able to find a job that challenges me, but at this point, I just need a steady paycheck.

Get my foot in the door, get settled, and start paying bills. That's my short-term goal. I can find something I like better later on, right?

Paying bills is always good Keep your sights high if you can as time goes by. For a lot of people, finding something better never seems to happen.
