Boehner to resign

Let us remember that the Speaker != the Majority Leader. I.e., just because the Pubs have a majority doesn't mean they get to pick the Speaker. Any voting majority of the total membership gets to pick the Speaker. There's nothing in House rules against a compromise Speaker, elected by Dems and centrist Pubs. At this point, I think even a centrist Democrat would have a shot at the job and could get a sufficient number of Pubs to back him/her.

This is true and perhaps someone who's memorized the Constitution can find more. As far as I can tell the Speaker of the House is mentioned once.

The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment

That right there is the entirety of it. There doesn't seem to be a reason why a horse can't be speaker. In the interest of not being a complete joke they could put anybody they goddamn please as far as I can tell though I presume that even if it doesn't state it that there must be some long buried rules about who can be Speaker. I mean what's to stop us from bypassing the Constitution? Arnold Schwarzenegger becomes CA Senator, then House Speaker, then challenges President Trump to an arm wrestling contest winner take all and now he's President.

Well, the Speaker needn't be a member of the House, at any rate, that's been in the news. That's why some pundits have nominated Dick Cheney or Newt Gingrich or worse.

Janesville — House Speaker Paul Ryan said Monday that if Donald Trump wants him to step down as a chairman of the GOP convention, he will respect his wishes.

"He's the nominee. I'll do whatever he wants with respect to the convention," Ryan said when asked about that scenario in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Ryan said he hopes he and Trump can begin to get to know each other when they meet later this week.

Palin said on CNN on Sunday that Ryan had "disrespected the will of the people" by withholding his support from Trump. And she vowed to work to defeat Ryan in his GOP congressional primary this August, where he faces a businessman and first-time candidate, Paul Nehlen. If she does, it would pit the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee directly against its 2012 nominee.

Ryan ought to be doing the Speaker job, and not the Convention Chairman job anyway.

After so much back and forth, Ryan is still considering take the Speakership position. I'm sure he's being pressured heavily to take the job. I hope he does. There is no one else I'd rather see in the hot seat.

Oh, happy day!

Ryan announces he's cutting and running.
Boner announces he's for legalizing pot now.
McConnell is still a sly, nasty disaster on wheels.
Tromp is still in office when he's not golfing or eating.

Maybe Boner should share his stash of primo?
