Book Porn

Nope, always finish the book. same with bad films...
worst book, anything by Dan Brown! the guy is illiterate. (and very rich from it)
worst film The Avengers (1998) so bad I made the woman I was with give me a blow job in the cinema.

Another View

Out of curiosity, who gives up on books they find bad and who finishes them?

For an apposite view of the matter:

“Clearly one must read every good book at least once every ten years.”

“I can't imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once.”

― both quotes from C.S. Lewis

[I remember reading somewhere that, when Lewis finished a book he did not like, he wrote on bottom of the last page: N.A. (Never Again)]. :)

I like that N.A. I often reread some of my favorites: “Love in the Time of Cholera,” “The Great Gatsby,” Still Life with Woodpecker,”.... ad nausea.

I admit sometimes I will put a book down because of things going on in my life and I don't feel the book meshes with that time, but I always pick it back up.

And with that said, what is the worst book you've ever read? For me, (other than 50 Shades of Crap), Anne Rice's Violin made me want to tear my eyes out. It felt never ending. And it was the last Anne Rice book I ever read.

Perhaps because I am very selective about what I take up, I always finish any book that I start. I honestly cannot think of any exceptions. I may set them aside while taking up others but, eventually, I make my way to the last page.

P.S., Anne Rice has written some real duds.

About every other year I re-read C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia", all seven books. Sometimes I just need to reconnect with the ethos and joy of those books. They are nominally 'children's books', but Lewis, in his canny way, brings our adult minds and spirits into that world by the back door, so to speak (or by the wardrobe door....).

Yes, she absolutely has. It's why whenever someone asks have you read.....I just shut them down.

I would never invite anyone over to read

My friend I debated starting a book club where the first hour everyone just reads whatever they want and then the second hour to socialize and talk about the books they are reading. We agreed that sometimes it is hard to sit down and find time to read so why not have a book club where you do exactly that and not set parameters as to what book everyone has to read. There's nothing I hate more than being in a book club and they keep picking books I loathe.

I'm part of two right now (one is my liberal feminist book club and my other for the organization I volunteer for) so the books hold an interest for me. However, my last book got on a serious Jodi Picolette and Nicholas Sparks kick and I had to bail.

I stayed out too late last night and have been lethargic all day today - well worth it though. I meant to post this a couple days ago, but thought of it today. Book love.

Let's visit the stacks!

Yes, and then spend the rest of the day “reading” in bed.

On a side note, a girlfriend of mine just confided in me recently that she uses “Reading” as a euphemism for masturbation.

I've re-read a lot of Roald Dahl for the simple fact that it takes me back to childhood. I haven't re-read Lewis in some time, thank you for the reminder. 😊

I’m currently reading Mary Poppins, which I have never read before. I think sometimes it is good to give your brain a break from the “serious” stuff. The past month was so horribly chaotic that I found myself not wanting to read anything “too heavy.”

Luckily, work has changed for the better as of Friday because while I enjoy Mary Poppins, I have a lot of other books to catch up on.
