Butterfly tries

Hi baby
Sorry about the computer issues - anymore there is so much excellent freeware stuff out there that I've dropped my symantec subscription and use AVG plus adaware, spybot and the micro$oft beta thingy. Zonealarm is a great freebie firewall that adds to XP firewall if the 'puter is running XP.

Anyway... how the weight? And WHEN is that steak dinner? This whole picture plan is pretty exciting... you know me. ;) :cathappy: :p

Thanks George...Well the spyware and/or viruses will not let me even get to the desktop...they took over the entire pc...both C and D drives...Doug gave me some ideas so I will be trying them to see if I can do a format from DOS mode...I tried before but I do not think I had the proper code...I am going to retry though.

I haven't made it over 100 yet. I should be able to have that dinner after this week. I am just waiting on a call. They said all should be completed this week...*fingers crossed*

LOL....We are leaving Tuesday...our flight is at 2:10 so we should be there at 5:17. Plenty of time to get to the hotel and have a nice dinner before heading out to see the fireworks :D When I was there in the 80's, they had the fireworks at the castle but my ex would not go to see them. I thought that was awful not to take the boys to see it but then again, he wasn't a nice person  So anyway, that is one of the things on my list :D Then we can go back to the room and have a nice relaxing night before getting up early on Wed. :)

Generally exes are exes for a reason... generally.

Oh, move in date is now July 1. Because of the extra mild winter they lost no appreciable time, especially rebuilding the family room. We did make some changes that will end up with us bearing cost. Chief among them is granite resin as counter tops in kitchen. We also moved that counter over 19" toward the (former) sliding doors that opened into the family room - that door is now slightly smaller with no door on it, just an archway... looks nice. Also all the dining room, kitchen, hallway, laundry room, pantry are wood floor now with a walk in big shower in that downstairs bathroom. Pretty exciting.

Oh well...such is life with pcs...especially ones that are not protected in any way

Steve's ex wife and her husband are suppose to be so computer savvy, yet they have no protection at all  He even turned of the XP firewall. Geeeez

Anyway, once I get their pc finished, the girls will have a firewall, virus protection and spyware protection. I will also set up a maintenance schedule to run on auto. They should not have any issues after that. I have no idea if the adult's pc is just as vunerable but that is their problem.

Well I do not know alot, but I do know enough to have protection.
I know enough to keep me out of trouble...for the most part.
I get lost when it comes to drivers, bios and such. I want to learn about clocking but that will be a while as I have too many other things to learn first. That is the wonderful thing about the web, one can find out just about anything and learn. I just have certain things I want to learn about before I decide to start delving deep into the system.

Oh I have freeware on my pc as well as purchased software. I noticed that difference spyware programs catch different things. One I ran got over 30 parasites and then when I ran another, it found over 400 and then another one found over 20. They all catch different things, so it is good to have more than one (or in my case I have 3). I have defender beta and I also have xp firewall and the shield firewall and the shield antivirus protection. I have avg and avast on my system as well but I only keep one going at a time as they can interfere with one another. I have system works on the pc and it works great as a cleaner/optimizer. I do not have a subscription to it just bought the cd. It works great but you do have to be careful what you have in your temporary folder as some of the windows updates show up in there and sm will delete those. I always check my temp. folders before running the cleaner, to be on the safe side.

It's funny that to catch it all we have to run a soup bowl of things..

Ahhh, you sound like me. I crashed my first pc so many times. I got to be an expert at reformatting in windows 98  I had no idea what I was doing. When I got it, I found the power button but that is all I know. I didn't know how to get online or what to do after I had the telephone guy talk me through setting up a dial up connection. I was living in Ga then and where I lived, there was no cable or dsl. I couldn't even get AOL...it was a long distance call for aol

I went all over the web after getting all that straight and taught myself as I went, which meant tons of mistakes causing my pc to crash. LOL It was win 98 with a 4 gig hd and a celleron

I am now running xp media edition with 1 gig ram and 250 gig hd and a 3800+ amd athlon processor.

Yep...Everyplace I checked out...all the pros say that one needs at least 2 programs but better if you have more. It is crazy but each program only catches certain things. There isn't one program that gets them all.

I remember your telling me about the gig of ram... makes editing life easier and faster. You did make a wise choice in your purchase decision... but you always do.

Yeah, Micro$oft Defender - I called it Micro$oft "thingy"
