Butterfly tries

Oh I have freeware on my pc as well as purchased software. I noticed that difference spyware programs catch different things. One I ran got over 30 parasites and then when I ran another, it found over 400 and then another one found over 20. They all catch different things, so it is good to have more than one (or in my case I have 3). I have defender beta and I also have xp firewall and the shield firewall and the shield antivirus protection. I have avg and avast on my system as well but I only keep one going at a time as they can interfere with one another. I have system works on the pc and it works great as a cleaner/optimizer. I do not have a subscription to it just bought the cd. It works great but you do have to be careful what you have in your temporary folder as some of the windows updates show up in there and sm will delete those. I always check my temp. folders before running the cleaner, to be on the safe side.

Oh and when I said the programs found all those parasites, it was NOT on my pc. I never find anything bad on mine, except for tracking cookies which I get rid of.

I remember your telling me about the gig of ram... makes editing life easier and faster. You did make a wise choice in your purchase decision... but you always do.

Yeah, Micro$oft Defender - I called it Micro$oft "thingy"

Thanks Hun :)

Yep the Defender works well but I am not sure I trust it completely, especially since it is still in beta mode, so I use the sheild for my firewall. It seems to work just fine.

*****there is an update today in windows update for defender*****

Its for spyware adware isn't it? And I do use spybot and adaware (free versions) to back it up. Like you, I only find tracking cookies when I run the latter two.

Yes it is but it also works as a firewall...well for running programs that is, not for hackers...only for exe programs.

Ohhhhh, so I actually have THREE firewalls running? I feel so... so... robust somehow. ;)

Yeah, I knew it was pro-active unlike the freeware versions of spyware

a word of caution on running multiple firewalls. They will trip over each other eventually and cause wierdness. Nothing major, but things work strange.

LOL Kind of like me. I have to go through my room again and toss out alot. My room looks like a bomb hit it, right now...When my son moved in, all my free space was taken up plus. I do not have room for everything. I am trying to get him to get his own place but is slow going

I have one firewall working at a time. They end up conflicting with one another otherwise. Same with anti virus programs. One is enough...two or more causes conflicts.

XP's and zonealarm integrate seamlessly, but, yeah, multiple virus programs running at the same time are tricky. Hell, Norton running BY ITSELF was quirky. That's why I gave up that subscription and go with AVG exclusively.

Yeah I had issues with Norton and Mcafee....both stand alones....... would lock my system up all the time....I got rid of them. I also got avg and tried avast as well...both are still on my system but The Shield is the one I have running all the time. I just use the others for scanning purposes if I think I need to. I never find anything but sometimes, after a long day surfing all over the web, I like to check everything. Too cautions perhaps but I say better safe than sorry.
